Cain Velasquez has been nothing short of dominant since entering the UFC.

Velasquez’ five knockout victories in the organization has led him to becoming the organization’s heavyweight champion and has him set to headline the inaugural UFC on Fox event in November.

However, the American Kickboxing Academy-trained heavyweight doesn’t lead the pack as the No. 1 fighter in significant strike accuracy in UFC history.

The top spot goes to a fellow champion and future Hall of Famer; additionally, making the list are three former champions and five fighters who are currently booked for fall fights.

UFC Light Heavyweights: Ranking Each Former Champ’s Chances of Another Title Run

UFC 135: Jones vs. Rampage will feature the light heavyweight championship bout between two of the division’s best fighters ever.

We can argue until we’re blue in the face about where they rank exactly, but the bottom line is that these two champions are extremely dangerous and should put on a great fight for the fans.

Jackson himself is a former UFC light heavyweight champion and many believe he is still at the top of his game. He has been in the right place at the right time to get the first shot at Jones’ championship after an injury put off Rashad Evans’ opportunity, but it is his own hard work and ability to “sell” himself to fans that has really given him this chance at Jones.

But is Rampage the man to beat Jones?

There are plenty of up-and-comers in the stacked light heavyweight division, but it may be one of the former champions who actually has the best chance of beating the current champion. There are a handful of former champions who currently sit within or right near the top-10 in the division, but their chances of becoming champion dwindles down each day as they get older.

So which former champion does have the best chance of winning the UFC light heavyweight championship in the future? Read on as we count down each of the 10 former champions and assess their chances of holding the title again.

Anderson Silva: 5 Heavyweights Who’ll Give Him a Run for His Money

Last week, I took you through a slide show of five fighters within the UFC’s light heavyweight division who would match up well with current middleweight king, Anderson “The Spider” Silva.

The list contained such names as Dan Henderson, Lyoto Machida and light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.  Surely, any of those stars could put up one hell of a fight against the man they’re now calling “the greatest fighter of all time.”  Right?

It didn’t seem as if the fans are so sure.

The talents of Anderson Silva, they say, would be too much for anyone in the light heavyweight division to handle.  Dan Henderson would be choked out again.  Lyoto Machida would find himself on the receiving end of the dreaded crane kick.  Jon Jones would be blasted out cold while attempting a spinning back elbow.  Anderson Silva can’t be beat, won’t be beat.

Ok.  Well, let’s take it a step further.  What if he moved into the heavyweight division?

In all fairness, this isn’t something that is likely to ever happen.  However, Silva would only have to put on an extra 35 lbs to go from middleweight to heavyweight.  Randy Couture made the move from light heavyweight to heavyweight, and coming into a fight at merely 220-230lbs, he was still crowned the UFC heavyweight champion of the world for a period of time.  Sure, he never fought at middleweight, but he was 43 freakin’ years old!  That has to count for something.

So, just for the sake of argument, let’s say Anderson Silva did make the move up to the heavyweight division.  Who would he face?  How would he fare?  Let’s have a look-see, shall we?

What’s Chael-speak without too much coffee? Believe it or not, Chael Sonnen is “uncharacteristically” deferential in this interview.

Anyway, his upcoming opponent Brian Stann himself digresses regarding what many think to be the true Sonnen: the quintessential trash-talker who’ll grab every opportunity to diss another fighter and promote himself.

According to Stann,“In typical fashion, most people only remember the fights for which Chael was outspoken. They don’t remember the fights like against Dan Miller, Nate Marquardt and Yushin Okami, for which he was very respectful. Everyone tends to remember your last fight, and obviously prior to his title fight against Anderson Silva, Chael was outspoken, so perhaps people expected him to continue in this vein against me. I never expected him to talk smack on me, unless I had done something to upset him of which I wasn’t aware.”

Or maybe it’s because Stann ain’t Silva.

Anyway, again, let the man himself do the talking, and here are Sonnen’s “relatively” kind words on his colleagues. (Yes, Silva included.)
