UFC veteran Sam Alvey isn’t done fighting despite a disappointing loss to short-notice replacement Brendan Allen at UFC Vegas 47.

Alvey’s loss to Allen came via submission in Round 2. He had some moments early in the fight on the feet, but Allen was able to put a torrid pace on him and eventually secure the rear-naked choke for the win.

Alvey, who promised never to lose again following a 2018 defeat to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, has now gone winless over his last eight fights. His last win came against Gian Villante at UFC Fight Night 131 via split decision.

Following his loss to Allen, many speculated that Alvey’s retirement announcement could be inevitable. But during a recent video on his TikTok page, Alvey sounded optimistic regarding his fighting future.

“Hey guys, I’m fresh off my UFC fight and as I’m sure a lot of you saw, I did not — I didn’t get it done,” Alvey said. “I’ve lost a step. Something needs to change and I’m gonna make the correction.

“I’m not done fighting but I love this sport and you know what? God has blessed me. God, I raise God’s name on a high. I would not have the career I’ve had without him and I really have had a good career. I’ve had a long career.

“I’ve had — shoot, that was my 23rd fight in the UFC. I’ve had a career that people dream of. I’m not done fighting but I know I need to take a little bit of a hiatus.

“My YouTube channel, I’m gonna really push that. I wanna help coach, I wanna help coach you guys. If you have questions, if you wanna learn from me, if you wanna teach me, follow me on there, follow me here. I’m gonna keep pushing. I wanna help others win, I’m winning again too.

“I’m not done. I love you guys.” (h/t BJPenn)

Alvey has a history of staying positive and outspoken following his losses. However, it’s clear that he feels especially defeated by this latest setback at UFC Vegas 47.

Alvey made his debut with the UFC back in 2014, losing to Tom Watson before winning three-straight. He would go on to compete against the top middleweights in the promotion, earning wins over the likes of former UFC champion Rashad Evans and former Strikeforce champion Nate Marquardt.

It’s unclear what Alvey’s UFC future holds, but he seems optimistic regarding a return to the cage to get his first win in nearly four years.

Sam Alvey was understandably very emotional following his fight with Julian Marquez.

Despite having a few moments in their middleweight encounter at UFC Vegas 23 last night, Alvey ended up getting dropped by Marquez in the second round and proceeded to go to sleep after receiving a rear naked choke.

It means Alvey remains winless in six outings, having suffered three finishes during that stretch. It was also the first time he had been choked unconscious — at least in the UFC — as he reflected on the fight moments after it concluded.

“It’s minutes after my fight, guys, and yeah, it didn’t go as planned,” Alvey posted on social media. “But God is in my corner — his plan is always better than my plan. I’ll be back. Man, that hurts.

“Well, at least I’ve been choked out in front of millions of people now. I can get that off my bucket list. Praise be to God always. Win or lose, he’s in my corner.”

It’s definitely been a tough run for Alvey whose last win came back in June 2018 when he defeated Gian Villante via split decision.

There’s no word on how many fights the 34-year-old has left on his contract but one can imagine the UFC could be tempted to add Alvey to its string of recent roster cuts.

UFC light heavyweight, Sam Alvey believes there’s been a huge overreaction to the COVID-19 pandemic. But, he still feels bad for everyone it has impacted.

Alvey was expected to battle Khalil Rountree at UFC Columbus before the event was postponed due to the pandemic.

“I’m very disappointed,” Alvey told MMA Fighting. “I thought for sure it was going to happen. But I’m still convinced that this pandemic is going to pass in the minds of the American people.

“It’s really embarrassing for me, for our country that it hasn’t yet already. But it’s one of those things. You can’t see the future all the time.”

Even though the World Health Organization has declared it a pandemic, Alvey says people are overreacting to the number of people that have actually been infected or died from it.

“It’s a huge overreaction,” Alvey said. “Deaths are terrible, and I’m very sorry for all the families that have suffered through that. But pneumonia, just a typical flu season right now has killed close to 20,000 people, and people just don’t pay attention to that.

“It’s terrible that people are getting sick and not that many people are dying, but they still are, and that’s terrible, but when you compare it to any other flu season, even our current flu season, it’s killing 15 to 20,000 people in a three-month span.”

With so many cities in the United States practically in lockdown, Alvey believes people will get frustrated and go back to their normal lives very soon.

“I think the entire world of knowledge we can get at any time of any day,” Alvey explained. “We just have to click on our phone so everyone’s opinion is out there. If one state has banned bars from opening at 9 o’clock, then we have to do that, because if we don’t do that … and it explodes like that. I was convinced my fight was going to continue next week because I’m convinced in the next week or two the American people are going to be sick of this.

“I still suspect it’s going to be like a light switch. It’s going to turn off and people are going to stop caring. People are just going to be upset that stuff is getting closed. I feel like as fast as this is getting everyone riled up. I think everyone is going to be done with it almost as quickly.”
