WWE's Triple H Admits Envy Over Dana White’s Noche UFC Production

Triple H is envious of what Dana White accomplished at Noche UFC.

Last month, the Ultimate Fighting Championship delivered on its promise to produce an event unlike anything combat sports fans had ever seen before. The promotion’s card inside the already iconic Sphere in Las Vegas was a spectacle that had everyone, including the WWE’s Chief Content Officer, swooning.

“When I see what Dana is doing and they’re just crushing it and I see stuff at The Sphere and I look at that production and I’m like, ‘I wanna do that.’ It’s just like a lot of fun,” Triple H said during a press conference following WWE Bad Blood on October 5. “Man, it’s amazing to watch them do what they do, at the level they do it, and there’s nothing like that in the world” (h/t Sportskeeda).

Noche UFC

Though the budget for the event exceeded $20 million, Noche UFC brought in a record-breaking $22 million gate, breaking the $17 million record set by Conor McGregor’s clash with Eddie Alvarez in November 2016.

It also eclipsed the company’s previous records for highest-grossing merchandise sales and highest-grossing sales for VIP experiences. It also generated more sponsorship dollars than any other event in UFC history.

Noche UFC

Noche UFC fails to close the show with a bang

As much as a spectacle as the evening was, the action inside the Octagon left a lot to be desired. Particularly in the case of the co-main and main events. Both Valentina Shevchenko and Merab Dvalishvili deployed a wrestle-heavy attack against their opponents en route to a pair of uneventful world title victories.

Their performances were dominant, but not exactly fan-friendly which left the UFC CEO a bit frustrated.

“You can control how much you spend on the production of an event, but you can’t control the fights,” White said of the lackluster title fights during the post-fight press conference.

Nate Diaz is talking with the WWE? The US-born athlete had his final contracted fight in the UFC when he earned a submission victory against former interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson at UFC 279. Stockton’s Diaz has been hinting at many different options such as boxing fights or competing in a different MMA organization. However, few had predicted that professional wrestling was on the horizon.

On Instagram, Diaz posted a photo alongside former D Generation X member, and current WWE Executive VP of Talent Triple H. The caption reads: “We’ll see what’s bout to happen next.”

Triple H is a former 14-time WWE world champion. According to the WWE, officially he oversees “creative writing, talent relations, live events, talent development, and creative services.”

Is Nate Diaz in talks with the WWE?

The UFC and Nate Diaz struggled to come to an agreement for his final fight on his contract. On Twitter, Diaz continued to hint that a boxing match against YouTuber Jake Paul was the plan. But the final fight was never agreed upon so Diaz was stuck in the UFC.

With his final fight taking place in the main event of UFC 279 Nate Diaz is a hot free agent. Boxing matches, MMA organizations, and professional wrestling are all viable options for The Ultimate Fighter Season 5 winner.

WWE and the UFC have often swapped talent. Going as far back as Ken Shamrock and Dan Severn competing in both organizations. Notably, Brock Lesnar was a huge draw for both. Daniel Cormier, former UFC double champ, recently refereed a WWE match. Olympic medalist Ronda Rousey has an impressive legacy in both organizations as well. The WWE has also promoted alongside big-name boxers like Floyd Mayweather and heavyweight Tyson Fury.

The UFC alumni made his debut in the organization in 2007. Diaz was often a featured fighter when the UFC was broadcasting events on FOX. Towards the tail end of his career, he became a needle mover after epic bouts against Irish superstar Conor McGregor. Additionally, Nate Diaz has notable wins over Anthony Pettis, Donald Cerrone, Takanori Gomi, and Josh Neer, among others.

The world is open for Nate Diaz in whatever career he chooses next.

WWE’s Triple H: We’d Love To Do Something With Daniel Cormier

Cormier To The WWE?

If things don’t pan out for Daniel Cormier, he always has a career in professional wrestling.

Cormier is expected to face Stipe Miocic for the heavyweight title later this year in a trilogy that is expected to be the final fight of his professional career. In the meantime, “DC” has recurring gigs as a commentator as well as an analyst for the UFC and that looks like it will only continue even after he officially retires from competition.

However, it’s no secret that Cormier is a professional wrestling fan. He’s already had discussions in the past about being involved with the WWE in some form. And former wrestler and current WWE executive Triple H would love to be able to do something with Cormier in the future.

“I love Daniel. We’ve obviously talked a lot in the past,” Triple H told TMZ. “We’ve had conversations about him doing stuff with us in the past whether that’s in-ring or whether that’s commentary or doing different things. … I think we’d love to do something with him if the time is right — obviously, respectful to UFC and to Dana and everything else.

“We’d love to chat with him and we have an open relationship as far as communication so I’m sure shortly we will when he figures out what he wants to do.”

Cormier turned 41 earlier this year so a potential in-ring future with the WWE seems unlikely even if it’s a part-time gig. However, a one-off fight could work, especially if it’s to settle things with Brock Lesnar.

In reality, commentary seems to be the more realistic option. But given Cormier’s popularity as a UFC commentator, the WWE will have a hard task if they want to recruit the former two-weight champion.

Do you think Cormier will end up working for the WWE in the future?

With the eye of the mixed martial arts (MMA) world on the chaos of UFC 223, former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey made her pro-wrestling debut at tonight’s (Sun. April 8, 2018) WrestleMania XXXIV from New Orleans, Louisiana.

Teaming up with fellow former Olympic medalist Kurt Angle, Rousey took on WWE executives Stephanie McMahon and her husband, Paul “Triple H” Levesque in a mixed tag-team match.

It was one of more awaited WWE debuts for some time, and Rousey delivered on the hype in a big way.

First, she got the crowd going wild with her walkout in honor of former WWE champion “Rowdy” Roddy Piper:

That lead to a so-called ‘surreal’ face-off between the four competitors in the center of the squared circle:

And after some initial offense from McMahon and Levesque, Rousey finally got her chance to rush in on the action, and he wasted no time doing so against McMahon:

“Rowdy” was then able to get McMahon in a compromising position for her trademark armbar:

Then, Rousey showed some scripted boxing skills, the exact area of her once-feared MMA game that unfortunately lead to her downfall, by nailing Triple H with a nonstop torrent of rapid punches:

She showed some newly-acquired pro-wrestling skills as well, flowing well and slamming McMahon like a natural:

Finally, Rousey got McMahon in a brutal armbar for the finish, leading to a monstrous debut victory alongside Angle and a round of celebration with the fans:

Former UFC champion Ronda Rousey is now officially a part of the WWE’s roster and was baptized in classic professional wrestling fashion after Stephanie McMahon slammed her through a table on Monday.

But that wasn’t even the worst part of her appearance on RAW, as McMahon did the unthinkable by bringing up Rousey’s devastating knockout losses that led her to retire from the sport altogether. Rousey is notoriously prickly when it comes to discussing those losses in interviews, but that didn’t stop Vince McMahon’s daughter from “going there” – and didn’t stop Rousey from letting her for money.

Watch the exchange for yourself:

McMahon insisted Rousey’s first loss in pro-wrestling would come in her very first match, poking fun at how the ‘world knows she handles losses’:

“Ronda, just remember that you chose this path. This is all on you. You are going to lose at WrestleMania. In the record books, your very first match in WWE is going to be a loss to me.

“And we all know — The world knows how you handle losses.”

Rousey will make her official WWE debut at Wrestlemania 34 on Sunday in a tag team match with partner and fellow Olympic medalist Kurt Angle against Stephanie McMahon and her real-life husband, Paul “Triple H” Levesque.
