Matchroom Boxing promoter, Eddie Hearn has claimed that he has heard rumors relating to an potential exhibition boxing match between current WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, and former UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou, is currently in the works.

Fury, the current and undisputed WBC heavyweight champion, boasts an unbeaten 33-0-1 professional boxing record, most recently turned in a dominant win over rival, Derek Chisora, defeating his former foe and title challenger in December with a tenth round TKO victory in London.

As for Francis Ngannou, the former undisputed UFC heavyweight gold holder has yet to return to mixed martial arts competition since headlining UFC 270 back in January of last year, successfully unifying the divisional titles against then-interim champion, Ciryl Gane with a unanimous decision triumph.

Yet to make a foray into professional boxing – as speculated earlier this year, Ngannou, who departed the UFC in January of this year of his own accord, has since penned a multi-fight deal with the PFL (Professional Fighters League) – ahead of a return to mixed martial arts competition in the opening quarter of next year.

Tyson Fury had welcomed a bout with Francis Ngannou

And amid links to a fight with former undisputed WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder in a move to the squared circle, Batié native, Ngannou may first find himself standing across from Morecombe native, Fury – as per rumors heard by the aforenoted promoter, Hearn.

“This is what I’ve heard,’ Eddie Hearn told Boxing Social of a rumored Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou fight. “It’ll be an exhibition, apparently, No knockdowns or anything. I’m only telling you what I’ve heard, who know’s what’s what? But I think that is apparently what is going to be the next fight.” (H/T Oscar Willis)

Initially, Fury has been continually linked with a fight against fellow world champion, Oleksandr Usyk later this year, however, talks between the Ukrainian’s camp and Fury have continued to falter and stall in recent months.

A fantasy matchup between heavyweight icons Tyson Fury and Jon Jones may become a reality.

What originally started as a simple comment made by Joe Rogan has quickly escalated into a rivalry that could generate the biggest fights in combat sports history. Reigning heavyweight champions Tyson Fury and Jon Jones are the rulers of their respective worlds, but if things go the UFC’s way, those worlds will collide in the near future.

In an audio clip shared by Oscar Willis of TheMACLife, Tyson Fury revealed that he is currently engaged in ongoing talks with former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, but perhaps even more shocking was ‘The Gypsy King’ confirming that the UFC had presented him with an offer for a hybrid rules fight against reigning heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

“There’s talk of me doing a hybrid fight with Jon Jones as we talk right now,” Fury stated. I received an offer from the UFC yesterday, so you never know what’s going to happen. The future’s bright for sure. There’s a lot of options out there.”

Tyson Fury vs. Jon Jones Wouldn’t Be the First Time a Major Promotion Has Booked a Mixed-Rules Match

Tyson Fury and Jon Jones have been jawing at one another for quite some time after Rogan suggested that ‘Bones’ would mop the floor with the boxing icon should the two ever be locked in a room together. As it turns out, we may actually get the chance to see them lock up in a cage or a ring, depending on the specifics of the proposed hybrid rules matchup.

This would be the first time the UFC has ever dipped its toe in a mixed-rules style matchup, but the concept has been executed to perfection elsewhere. In March 2022, ONE Championship booked a hybrid contest between former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson and Muay Thai legend Rodtang Jitmuangnon. The bout was critically-acclaimed and has seemingly opened the door for other promotions to adopt the concept.

Though we don’t know much more at this point, the possibility of the bout coming together still seems relatively far-fetched. But with Jones open to stepping inside the squared circle and Dana White chomping at the bit to get Tyson Fury under the UFC banner, even for a one-off appearance, it’s safe to assume that all parties will do everything they can to cash in on the hype that all started thanks to the former host of Fear Factor.

Former WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder seems to be interested in fighting Francis Ngannou in both MMA and boxing.

It has been apparent for some time now that Ngannou has been highly interested in making the switch to boxing, namely targeting big time heavyweights such as Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder. His new deal with the PFL means that ‘The Predator‘ is free to explore boxing matchups out with the promotion, but it seems that one of the big boys have come to him.

Deontay Wilder attends PFL

Last night ‘The Bronze Bomber’ attended PFL 4 in Atlanta, Georgia and his appearance did not disappoint. The often animated Wilder spoke to the broadcast team and when the formerly mentioned Ngannou matchup was brought up, Wilder said he would be interested in facing Ngannou. In fact, Wilder would go as far as to say he would be willing to step into the cage.

I thought about this many times,” Wilder began. “Even with Ngannou, we were talking about getting together. You always see the MMA guys crossing over, but you never see the boxers crossing over, so I said I’m willing to make it more interesting for the fans and just the whole combat family as in a whole. I said why don’t you come to my backyard, and after we handle business, I can come to yours and crossover and I really meant it. So things are still up in the air, but I have seen myself on this side of the field, you know. People will be very impressed on what I can do in my abilities to be here.”

Wilder would continue, doubling down on his claims that he would be willing to face Ngannou inside the PFL cage.

Aye Francis, if you listening, we discussed this before, and hey, we got many space and opportunity to discuss it once more,” Wilder said “Aye, I’m looking for a two-fight crossing over. I’m willing to just go in the octagon as well as the original plans, but you know,  the fans want to see it. I want to be a part of it. So let’s give them what they want to see.

Deontay Wilder speaks with PFL broadcast team

While an Ngannou Vs. Wilder matchup is a fun idea, the chances of it actually happening any time soon are slim. Wilder has been involved in negotiations to face Joshua for 10’s of millions of dollars later this year and its unclear, even with apparent new investors, if the PFL could match such a purse. However, should Wilder drop his next couple bout, options become slim or if any number of events take place, the matchup could take place. (H/T MMA News)
