Worst UFC Cake Ever… again! (The Fight Nerd)

“Created by Casa D’Cake, this abomination features a thin licorice fence with a three-dimensional logo, and most importantly, two fighters cuddling. I assume they are fighters, but this is just too homo-erotic not to mock.”

The Seven Most Insanely Dangerous Combat Sports Ever Invented (Cage Potato)

“[W]e thought we’d give the MMA critics some perspective by presenting a list of the most brutal and dangerous combat “sports” ever invented. From shock-fighting to bear-baiting, they defy logic, celebrate gratuitous violence and remind us just how far the human race has come.”

Hired Hero: An MMAmania interview exclusive with UFC 136 fighter Brian Stann (part one) (MMA Mania)

“Nobody can mess with my mind. I’m stronger than any fighter in the UFC mentally. I think that having spoken with Chael, literally two weeks before we were matched up to face each other, I think his feelings are genuine and I think when he does dislike a guy, he’s genuine about it. He’s simply the kind of guy who says things that are on his mind. he doesn’t hold back.”

UFC 136: By the Odds (MMA Fighting)

“With UFC 136 just a day away, oddsmakers have made their picks and more or less dared you to disagree with them. You going to stand for that? I didn’t think so.”

The Top Ten Alterations to MMA History That 100 Percent Occurred in a Parallel Universe (MiddleEasy)

“Bas gets drunk one night and stumbles into a Swedish night club. Nothing about that sentence should surprise you. Rutten is known to occasionally get down in random countries. The story goes, Bas was restrained by security guards and was told to leave the club because he was entirely too boisterous. Bas agreed, but wanted to find his friend who was still inside in the place. Apparently the bouncers were in the mood to pick a fight with El Guapo and began to shove him around the hallway.”

Chael Sonnen: “They found me guilty for taking a legal substance (testosterone)” (Fight Opinion)

“It was an interview featuring two participants (Chael Sonnen and Mauro Ranallo) that you knew, at some point, would devolve into who knows what. It inevitably reached that point of absurdity… and more.”

Sonnen, Stann Play for Big Stakes (NBC Sports)

“Nobody wants to fight Brian, but somebody’s got to,” Sonnen said. “Our paths have to cross. We’re just in the same weight class. It’s not that big of a pool. And he keeps whipping everybody. If he quits beating everybody, then I wouldn’t have to fight him, but he decided to go out and become one of the top guys. So, I’ve done my part, put my time in and I’m up there too. So, our paths have to cross.”

Kajan Johnson: I’m the kind of guy that likes to push the pace and bring it every second (Low Kick)

“In order to be truly successful, you really do have to live like a ninja. You gotta be willing to put yourself though an incredible amount of hardship in order to get to where you want to go. The same thing can be said about the entertainment industry, but it’s nothing compared to what we endure. It’s even harder. The diet, the stress, the amount of money we get paid, the injuries. It’s very difficult; it’s not an easy life, but I love it. I know this is my destiny; I just can’t say no to that.”

Top 2011 MMA Television Ratings (So Far) (MMA Payout)

“It’s no surprise that the top rated MMA television shows all were broadcast on Spike TV, a network that’s in close to 100 million (99,947,000) households, which has 86% market coverage in the United States. The UFC’s other broadcast partner, Versus, is in approximately 76 million households (66% coverage). MMA programming on Versus only broke the 1 million viewer mark three times since 2008, UFC on Versus 1: Vera vs Jones, WEC 34 and WEC 41. It will be very interesting to see what happens in terms of ratings, when the UFC moves to FOX in just over a month.”

Dana White Issues Challenge to Kenny Florian (5th Round)

“I’m not gonna get into..everybody knows what I’ve said about Kenny in title fights. I want to see Kenny prove me wrong on this one.”

Phil Davis caught off-guard by mistaken announcement of match-up with Machida (Five Ounces of Pain)

“I would love to be in there putting on a good show and fighting, but my leg just does not agree with that. You put a timetable on it; it just may not work. You’ve just got to play it by ear. I don’t want to tell the fans I’m going to be back next week, and then that turns into two weeks from now or two months from now.”

UFC 136 Live Results: Million-Dollar Commentary of the Epic Houston Card

The last time MMA fans saw Frankie Edgar on the same card as Gray Maynard and Kenny Florian, Edgar was fighting BJ Penn at UFC 118, the same card on which Maynard fought Florian for that infamous crack at the belt.

Edgar swept BJ Penn on that card while Florian managed to once again fight like how Kenny Florian doesn’t fight en route to a stale unanimous decision loss to Maynard.

Over a year later, Edgar and Maynard share the card with Florian, except this time, Edgar and Maynard are settling a UFC 125 split draw and Florian is trying his hand at what could be the last title shot of his career as he faces Jose Aldo.

Below the main and co-main is a clash between the rising Brian Stann and the returning motor-mouth with the grind-em-out offense in Chael Sonnen—a UFC Middleweight contention bout that follows a TUF 12 Finale rematch between Leonard Garcia and Nam Phan, as well as a shoo-in for Fight of The Night between Melvin Guillard and Joe Lauzon.

All this, plus Anthony “Showtime” Pettis vs. Jeremy Stephens, Demian Maia vs. Jorge Santiago and hopefully Miss Kenda Perez right here as this is UFC 136: Edgar Vs. Maynard 3, live and direct here on Bleacher Report MMA!

The three-fight saga between UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard will finally come to an end in the main event of UFC 136. After the two 155-pounders battled to a draw at UFC 125, UFC president Dana White opted to give Maynard an immediate rematch and another chance to take Edgar’s belt.

In Saturday’s co-main event, UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo will attempt to defend his belt against Kenny Florian. Florian, who fell just short in multiple lightweight title shots, will be looking to taste UFC gold for the first time in his career.

The official weigh-ins for UFC 136, an event that is shaping up to be perhaps the best card of the year, will be held today at 5 p.m. ET at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

In an event with two title fights, there are some other bouts on the card that very likely could steal the show from either one of the main events.

Chael Sonnen is set to go up against war veteran Brian Stann. Many people have Stann losing this fight, but he doesn’t see it that way. Sonnen has uncharacteristically had only positive things to say about Stann and is anticipating a tough fight on Saturday night.

UFC featherweight champion José Aldo is set to go up against Kenny Florian, who is in only his second fight at featherweight. It’s sure to be a fight that demonstrates an incredible pace and is likely to go all over the cage.

In their third bout, UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar will try to finally defeat the only man to have a win over him in Gray Maynard. “The Bully” will look to walk away with the belt that he thinks is his, and will likely be looking to put Edgar away rather than go to decision.

Stay tuned for a complete analysis of each weigh-in at 5 p.m ET.

UFC 136: Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard Highlights Deepest Fight Card of 2011

Mixed martial arts fans are in for a treat on Saturday night, with a fight card on tap for UFC 135: Edgar vs. Maynard III that is as deep as any we’ve seen this year and, as such, has as much potential for heart-pounding, bone-crushing entertainment as…

Mixed martial arts fans are in for a treat on Saturday night, with a fight card on tap for UFC 135: Edgar vs. Maynard III that is as deep as any we’ve seen this year and, as such, has as much potential for heart-pounding, bone-crushing entertainment as any UFC event in 2011.

First and foremost, we have the main event between Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard. These two nemeses have enough history between them that this bout could be a headliner even without the benefit of waist wear.

Of course, they’ll be duking it out for the UFC Lightweight Championship, so the stakes will be that much higher. This isn’t the first time they’ve met to decide a title, though. Edgar and Maynard last met in the Octagon at UFC 125: Resolution on New Year’s Day.

Ironically enough, not all was resolved that day, particularly between Edgar and Maynard, who fought to a draw. That allowed Edgar to retain the title but did little to make up for his loss to Maynard at UFC Fight Night: Florian vs. Lauzon back in April of 2008.

As exciting as the latest edition of Edgar vs. Maynard will be, it won’t be the only fight with championship implications this weekend. Jose Aldo will also be at the Toyota Center in Houston, but certainly not as a spectator. Rather, he’ll be climbing into the Octagon, Featherweight Championship and all, to take on former lightweight contender Kenny Florian.

Aldo has been as dominant as any fighter in his respective division, though this will mark only his second career UFC bout. Florian, meanwhile, will be taking his third, and perhaps final, shot at a title after twice losing championship bouts as a lightweight.

But wait…there’s more! The third fight on the main card, between top 10 contenders Chael Sonnen and Brian Stann, could very well determine who gets the next crack at Anderson Silva‘s seemingly unbreakable hold on the Middleweight Championship.

Sonnen last climbed into the Octagon 14 months ago, when Silva forced him into submission to claim the title belt at UFC 117. Sonnen would’ve had a shot at an immediate rematch had he not been suspended for elevated levels of testosterone and mixed up in a money laundering scandal.

Sonnen has been rather flippant in his approach toward tomorrow’s bout, telling USA Today:

“This is the most unsophisticated and un-well-thought-out thing you need to do in life. Two half-naked men are going to get into a steel cage and fight for the applause of a drunken, rowdy crowd. … We don’t need to plan for this.”

But while Sonnen may not be so inclined to planning ahead, MMA fans should be, at least in so far as making sure they catch all the championship-caliber action at UFC 136.

UFC 136 Fight Card: Leonard Garcia and the 10 Most Fan-Friendly Fighters in MMA

The sport of mixed martial arts is a lot like the cutthroat restaurant business. Both involve their fair share of yelling, beefy guys in shorts, lots of blood, lots of curses and nicknames flying around. And the girls!  Don’t forget about the girls.

Maybe the closest similarity, though, is the importance of presentation. You can serve the thickest, juiciest steak in town, but who’s going to want it if you serve it on a garbage can lid?

Same holds true for MMA, a sport trying desperately to carve out its own niche in the crowded mainstream sports market. The cup runs over in terms of athleticism, competition and personality. But if, at the end of the day, it’s just a bunch of brick-headed jerks lying on top of each other, that’s not going to make your business overly attractive to certain very large segments of the general population.

That’s why these 10 guys are worth their weight in gold. They’re the most fan-friendly fighters in MMA today. These are the guys who will stop at nothing to put on a show to be remembered by the ticket-buying public.

Near the head of the pack is Leonard Garcia, who at UFC 136 this Saturday faces off with Nam Phan.

This list covers active fighters only. In the name of doing something different, I’m going to try and tabulate fighters who are fan friendly both inside and outside the cage. As you’ll see, it’s very interesting how often the two sync up.

There are plenty of guys who just missed the cut. Anyone you’d like to see on the list who didn’t make it?
