UFC 153 has picked up a heavyweight bout that will put Pride legend Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira up against Dave Herman.
Both men are coming off losses in their latest bouts, which will make this bout interesting. Herman is coming off back-to-back setbacks against Stefan Struve and Roy Nelson, while Nogueira is coming off a submission loss to Frank Mir.
Here is a head-to-toe breakdown of this late replacement heavyweight bout between the two.

According to mmafighting.com, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will step in the rapidly dissolving UFC 153 card in Brazil to battle fellow heavyweight Dave Herman.
MMAfighting.com is following a lead from Guilherme Cruz, a reporter from tatame.com, who reported the following on Twitter:
Minotauro Nogueira vs. Dave Herman on for UFC 153, in Rio. Thoughts?
Nogueira, who has not fought since UFC 140 due to a broken arm suffered at the hands of Frank Mir, would be fighting for the first time since UFC 134, where he handily knocked out challenger Brendan Schaub.
Nogueira was tapped to return at UFC 149 in Calgary against Cheick Kongo, but pulled out as he was not completely healed from his devastating injury. Now, it appears that he may be ready for action.
As for Herman, he is currently riding a two-fight losing streak after opening his UFC career with a win over John-Olav Einemo. He was knocked out in bouts against Stefan Struve and Roy Nelson, the latter being his latest bout at UFC 146.
This will be an important fight for both men. For Herman, a loss would mean his job. For Nogueira, it would mean a possible retirement, or at least a pondering of it.
UFC 153 took a complete nosedive yesterday when UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo withdrew with a foot injury and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson withdrew with a shoulder injury (h/t MMAJunkie.com). That leaves both the main event, initially set to b…
That leaves both the main event, initially set to be title clash between Aldo and Frankie Edgar, and the co-main event, initially Glover Teixeira vs. Jackson, in jeopardy.
However, a recent report coming from the folks at Fighters Only indicates that a new main event may be in the works: a grudge match between ChaelSonnen and “The Axe Murderer” Wanderlei Silva.
The MMA news site reports that the fight is under consideration for a 195-pound catchweight, and in an interview with Portal do Vale Tudo, Silva expressed his excitement for the fight (translation via Fighters Only):
I accept to fight any one and with him it would be tasteful. It would be a bout that people would like to see. I wasn’t offered it yet, but if the boss needs me and I can contribute to make the fans happy, I would feel so glad.
Silva also describes Sonnen as a “guy who everybody wants [him] to face” and notes that he is “not in a competition training schedule but [he is] training, on-weight and feeling good.”
Never one to back down, Wanderlei Silva has never hesitated to spit some verbal venom of his own at “The American Gangster.”
Keep in mind that this bout is only being considered as of early Wednesday evening and has not been offered to either fighter yet.
With that being said, is Sonnen vs. Wanderlei Silva the fight to save UFC 153? Either way, the event goes down on Oct. 13 in Rio deJaneiro, at the HSBC Arena.

Let’s face it: There is little more we can say to convey our disappointment in the disintegration of UFC 153. The card began solid enough (see above), then it got a little less awesome, then it got significantly more awesome, and now it is resting in a state of awesome limbo that it may never return from, which is not really awesome at all if you think about it.
What fight would you, the fans, like to see as the new main event of UFC 153?
We’ve placed a few of the most likely options after the jump, but feel free to choose the “Other” option and give us your picks/reasoning in the comments section. The sky is the limit, but we must warn you, we’ve already asked Dana to consider Zimmer-Martinez II, and he gave us a resounding “maybe.”

(“What kind of backwards country is this? The game is called Whac-a-Mole, not Whac-a-Capybara, and the animals aren’t supposed to be alive!”)
Just a few hours ago, we promised that a few beautiful knockout videos would successfully help us all blissfully drift into a world where injuries no longer determined both the content of everyother CP article and the makeup of every other UFC card, but it seems our vision of an impossibly awesome MMA utopia is merely that…an impossibility.
Be that as it may, some of you might be pleased to hear that amidst the UFC 153 clusterfuck of injuries lies a potential silver lining. According to FightersOnly, who have sited several anonymous sources, a grudge match years in the making between Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen is being looked at as a possible replacement for UFC 153 now that Jose Aldo — or perhaps, the general incompetence of Brazilian drivers — has massacred our dreams of a featherweight title superfight.
Details remain sketchy at the moment, but in a recent interview with Portal do Vale Tudo, Silva stated that he would be more than willing to step up for the good of the UFC and his home country’s fans if asked to do so:
I think fighting in Rio would be great. Under no circumstances could I turn that down. I would love to fight for the crowd in Rio, and if it were against that guy who everybody wants me to face, it would be beautiful.

Rumor has it that the bout is being considered at a catchweight of 195 pounds, which might sound familiar to the three of you who actually paid for UFC 147. At this point in his career, Wandy is basically the go-to guy for any Brazilian MMA card that is circling the drain.
Wanderlei also stated that although he wasn’t exactly in fighting shape at the moment, he is on weight and healthy enough to fight if needed:
From experience, a fighter always has to be ready. I am not in a competition training schedule but I am training, on-weight and feeling good. It’s just a case of if I am offered the fight.
I accept to fight any one and with him it would be tasteful. It would be a bout that people would like to see. I wasn’t offered it yet, but if the boss needs me and I can contribute to make the fans happy, I would feel so glad.
Without opening up a whole new can of worms (or perhaps a can of worms that justwon’tclose), we’d just like to say that we wish every MMA fighter had this attitude. But there we go again, dreaming of a world that will never exist.
We will have more on this potential matchup as things develop, but in the meantime, here’s a video (courtesy of MMAFighting) in which Dana White laments over UFC 153 and how frustrating it is to be poor Frankie Edgar these days. Without trying to sound like a kiss ass, I must say that I honestly feel sorry for both guys in this situation, as both of them can’t seem to catch a fucking break lately. Oh well, I guess the fact that DW is richer than most, if not all Central African countries combined should help him sleep tonight. That, and the custom orthopedic Serta Sealy memory foam angel cloud mattress he sleeps on, of course.
So, Potato Nation, would Sonnen vs. Wanderlei be enough to quell your disappointment over the loss of Edgar vs. Aldo? Pick the less obvious answer here.

Surprise, surprise, the UFC’s recent plague of injuries hit yet another high-profile main event.
Featherweight champion Jose Aldo was recently forced out of his UFC 153 super-fight main event against Frankie Edgar, and now a once-promising UFC 153 card is in desperate need of a new headlining fight.
Edgar stepped in to fight Aldo on short notice, but due to the insane amount of fights that have been cancelled over the last few months, it seems likely that the UFC is going to do their best to leave a well-known fighter like Edgar on the card.
2012 has been a rough year for Edgar as he lost his UFC lightweight crown to Benson Henderson at UFC 144 in February, and after he failed to regain his belt at UFC 150 a month ago, he finally gave in to Dana White’s request to drop down to featherweight.
The primary reason Edgar dropped from lightweight to 145 pounds was to get his hands on UFC gold again, and with Aldo forced to bow out, there aren’t many high-profile options for “The Answer” to take in order to save the event.
Top contenders Chan Sung Jung and Ricardo Lamas could both use a high-profile win over Edgar in order to solidify their claim towards a UFC title bout, but the organization would have a tough time selling a pay-per-view event with either of those fighters, and they’ll need to throw in a proven draw if they want to make the card worth buying.
If the UFC wants to give fans a good reason to buy this card, which in all honesty still has a solid lineup of fights behind it, they need to throw Urijah Faber into the main event against Edgar.
“The California Kid” recently came out on twitter and said he would be willing to step in on short notice to fight Edgar, and in a lot of ways that fight makes more sense than a bout with Aldo ever did.
Much like “The Answer,” Faber has fallen short in his last few attempts at earning UFC gold, and it may be time for Faber to go back to the division that he once ruled with an iron fist if he ever wants another crack at UFC gold.
For a time, Faber was considered one of the top pound for pound fighters in the world as he reigned over the WEC’s featherweight class, but after losing his belt and a few opportunities to earn it back along the way, he decided a drop to bantamweight was a better option.
A 2-2 stint in the 135-pound weight class during his current UFC run has left Faber on the outside looking in concerning the bantamweight title picture, and after losing a shot at the interim belt in July, a return home may be Faber’s last shot at winning a UFC belt.
Faber could easily make the jump back up to featherweight and take on a lesser known opponent to get back into the mix, but let’s face it, “The California Kid” isn’t exactly a kid anymore and he needs to take any fight possible that could help him climb back into title contention.
A bout with Edgar would do exactly that, and it would be a suitable consolation prize for fans that wanted the Aldo-Edgar super fight.
While Faber may not bring the same kind of resume that Aldo has established over the last few years, he’s still proven to be one of the toughest fighters to take out south of 155 pounds, and he would be one of the best tests imaginable for Edgar in his 145-pound debut.
If Edgar is able to get passed Faber, we can safely consider him the biggest threat available to Aldo’s belt, but if “The California Kid” can find a way to defeat a former UFC lightweight champion in the main event of a PPV, he would instantly find himself in position to earn himself a rematch with Aldo in the near future.
