UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is clearly not happy about getting a bout with former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre pulled from his grasp.

UFC President Dana White has gone back and forth with who will fight “GSP” in his return bout. At first, the UFC announced earlier this year that UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping would fight GSP. However, due to injuries to both fighters, the UFC pulled the bout.

White then came out and stated that Woodley would get to fight St-Pierre. That bout got nixed due to Woodley’s bad performance in his successful title defense over Demian Maia at UFC 214. Now, Bisping will get the fight with St-Pierre at UFC 217. Woodley doesn’t believe that the competitive itch made GSP want to return to the world famous Octagon.

Woodley came out and stated on his podcast recently that St-Pierre didn’t return to fight top welterweights or have another title reign but rather to take big fights that would most certainly earn him big paydays.

“I knew what he was coming back for,” Woodley explained Saturday on The Morning Wood Show (transcript courtesy of MMA Fighting). “I knew he wasn’t coming back to do another run and do what he has already done, he already has a name engraved on the record books. He’s coming back because he said, ‘Hey you know what … Jon Jones, Conor, Ronda Rousey and all these fighters are making all this money, so I want to get in on some of this money.’

“What George St-Pierre needs to do is just to be honest. You’re not back in this sport to take on the welterweights, prove that you’re back and that the king is back, you’re not back for that, man. You’re here for super fights, you’re here to make a lot of money because you helped build the business model for pay-per-view and there’s no shame in that, but just be real.”

UFC 217 is set to take place on Saturday, November 4th in New York at Madison Square Garden. The UFC will be adding more bouts to this card and it will likely be stacked.

Tyron Woodley Opens Up About Reconciling With Dana White

UFC welterweight champion Tyron “The Chosen One” Woodley opened up about resolving his feud with UFC President Dana White, following a series of hostile public statements by both parties after UFC 214 last Saturday (July 29, 2017).

Woodley spoke to ESPN this week and said that after a few phone calls, the beef has been squashed.

“I still feel he should apologize publicly, but I’m not going to hold my breath. The conversation ended with respect and that was really my goal. Dana knows all about talking off emotion. I went a little (crazy) and was talking off emotion, too. Did I really plan on leaking stuff? Probably not. But at the time, I was mad and it sounded good.”

White criticized “The Chosen One” for his performance at UFC 214 against Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist Demian Maia, in a co-main event that broke the record for least amount of strikes thrown in a title fight.

Woodley, along with some mixed martial arts (MMA) analysts, defended the champion for his smart approach to the fight.

Since then, it has been revealed that Woodley suffered a torn labrum in the first round which prevented him from throwing his fierce right hand. He has been medically suspended for 180 days for a torn labrum.

Furthermore, the champion also opened up about his fight with Georges St-Pierre, originally offered to the winner of Maia vs. Woodley, but since given to middleweight champion Michael “The Count” Bisping.

“That was never going to happen. My fight played no factor in that.

“I want Georges to know there’s no shame in his game. I’m not saying he’s scared. He’s not coming back for a belt or to be the best. He’s coming back for big-money fights. He sees a sport in which he helped the pay-per-view model grow and he wants to get on it. There’s no shame in that. But don’t say you’re here for any other reason.”

Woodley will have to stay on the bench for some time while his shoulder heals, and in the meantime, St-Pierre and Bisping are expected to face off at UFC 217 on Nov. 4 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Joanna J?drzejczyk’s Octagon return is set.

The UFC strawweight champ is set to defend her title for a sixth time against the No. 3-ranked Rose Namajunas at UFC 217 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from Madison Square Garden in New York City on November 4, 2017. It joins a UFC middleweight championship bout between Georges St-Pierre and Michael Bisping as well:

J?drzejczyk is currently undefeated in her mixed martial arts (MMA) career with a spotless record of 14-0. The Polish knockout artist has racked up wins over the likes of Claudia Gadelha (twice), Carla Esparza, Jessica Penne, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, Jessica Andrade, and many more. The 29-year-old champ continues to make a name for herself and build her case of being considered the most dominant female champion in MMA today.

Namajunas has only had nine professional MMA fights in her career, however, she has already solidified herself as one of the baddest women in the world at 115 pounds at just 25 years of age. “Thug” lost out on the opportunity to become the division’s innaugural champion back in December of 2014 when she lost to Carla Esparza, however, she bounced back with wins over Angela Hill, Paige VanZant, and Tecia Torres.

After suffering a split decision loss to Karolina Kowalkiewicz in July of last year, Namajunas earned her shot at the 115-pound title by defeating “The Karate Hottie” Michelle Waterson via second round submission this past April.

Now, “Thug” is hoping to pull off the upset when she takes on “Joanna Champion” at Madison Square Garden later this year, earning her first career UFC title.

Former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre is finally set to make his Octagon return when he takes on Michael Bisping in his 185-pound debut for the division’s title.

“Rush” ended his mixed martial arts (MMA) career on a 12 fight win streak, which included nine successful title defenses. St-Pierre has racked up wins over the likes of Matt Sera, Matt Hughes, B.J. Penn, Carlos Condit, Nick Diaz, and Johny Hendricks. His last Octagon appearance saw him take home a controversial split decision win over Hendricks for his ninth consecutive title defense.

Shortly after the victory, St-Pierre announced his retirement from MMA but did leave the door open for a potential return down the road. Fast forward nearly four years later and the Canadian is ready to return to fighting competition and is set to fight at UFC 217 opposite middleweight champ Michael Bisping in his divisional debut.

Bisping is currently on a five-fight win streak that has proven to be the best run of his career, having defeated Anderson Silva, Luke Rockhold, and Dan Henderson. He will now get his first big money fight against St-Pierre later this year. Originally it was believed that welterweight champ Tyron Woodley would get the first crack at the Canadian, however, after his poorly received performance at UFC 214 this past weekend, UFC President Dana White decided to make a change.

After nearly four years off, betting lines have St-Pierre as a -155 (20/31) favorite over Bisping who is a +125 (5/4) underdog.

UFC 217 goes down live on pay-per-view (PPV) from Madison Square Garden in New York City on November 4, 2017.

Jon ‘Bones’ is back in the top pound-for-pound spot on the official UFC rankings.

Following his third-round knockout of archrival Daniel Cormier to win back the title in the main event of last weekend’s (Sat., July 29, 2017) UFC 214 from Anaheim, Calif., “Bones” has surpassed dominant flyweight champion Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson at the top of the P4P rankings, retaking the spot he ruled for years as the dominant light heavyweight champion.

A head-scratching series of out-of-the-cage problems with drugs were the only thing that could stand in Jones’ way, but unfortunately, they did in a big way, limiting him to just one win in more than two years since his first victory over Cormier at January 2015’s UFC 182.

In his stead, Johnson had racked up title defense after title defense, tying legendary former middleweight champion Anderson Silva’s record for most consecutive defenses with 10. Jones certainly could have tied and/or broken that record if he had been able to stay out of trouble, but nonetheless, his overtaking of ‘Mighty Mouse’s’ top spot is sure to be the cause of several heated discussions among fight fans.

In other rankings movement, Robbie Lawler moved up two spots following his hard-fought unanimous decision win over Donald Cerrone at UFC 214, moving from 3 to a tie with Stephen Thompson at the No. 1 spot after recent title contender Demian Maia moved down two spots to No 3 after his heavily criticized loss to Tyron Woodley in the UFC 214 co-main. Cerrone moved down one spot to No. 7 for the close loss.
