It’s high time Conor McGregor finally appears before his anticipated showdown with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The Irish megastar will meet the undefeated champion in the main event of October 6’s UFC 229 from Las Vegas, Nevada, in his first MMA fight in almost two years. Contrary to his previous UFC bouts, however, he’s done precious little promotion for a fight many are calling the biggest UFC contest of all-time.

McGregor has reportedly chosen to focus on his training for the fight rather than media, something he did in the lead-up to his awaited rematch with Nate Diaz at August 2016’s UFC 202. The UFC is supposedly none too happy with their biggest star, but they’re going to have to put up with his schedule to get him back in the octagon.

So McGregor hasn’t been talking all too much trash, instead choosing to focus on his preparation for the monumental task before him. He finally did make some semblance on an appearance on Instagram tonight, posting a video of his training routine at SBG Ireland. Check it out here:

McGregor has been out of action since he won the lightweight title from Eddie Alvarez at November 2016’s UFC 205. He was eventually stripped of the title when Nurmagomedov won it by defeating Al Iaquinta at April’s UFC 223, but McGregor made his mark there too.

Storming the Barclays Center in Brooklyn with a host of goons, McGregor infamously threw a metal handcart through a bus containing Nurmagomedov, injuring several fighters and forcing three fights off of UFC 223. He was arrested for assault and reached a plea deal in a Brooklyn court this July.

Some say he got off easy, but in any case, he’s coming back for the biggest MMA fight of his career. From the look of things, he’s focused solely on his opponent.

There has not yet been a press conference for UFC 229 as of this writing.

Michael Chiesa has filed a civil lawsuit against former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor after the Irish superstar started a melee in Brooklyn, New York, earlier this year.

It was reported by TMZ that the UFC lightweight star has filed a civil lawsuit against McGregor as he allegedly suffered damages due to McGregor’s infamous bus attack. The lawsuit states that Chiesa suffered “serious personal, economic, and other injury,” as well as “severe emotional distress, mental trauma, and/or bodily harm.”

It also accuses McGregor of negligence, assault, battery and infliction of emotional distress. What’s interesting is the fact that Chiesa has listed Barclays Center as a defendant, alleging the facility failed to take “proper security measures to protect the plaintiff and other patrons.” The lawsuit was filed on Monday in Brooklyn.

According to court documents, it doesn’t state exactly how much money Chiesa is looking to get but did note that he wants relief for compensation lost, including “lost opportunities.”

Back in April during fight week of the UFC 223 pay-per-view event, McGregor and several members of his entourage decided to fly from Ireland to Brooklyn, New York to get revenge on current lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. It all started once the UFC lightweight champion got into an argument with McGregor’s training partner, Artem Lobov, earlier that week.

This led to McGregor attacking the fighter bus that had Nurmagomedov on and he was arrested as a result, then was charged with three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief.

All felony counts were dismissed as McGregor accepted the deal that is a guilty of disorderly conduct charge, which will see him do five days of community service, anger management classes and three orders of protection against Ray Borg, Jason Ledvetter, and Chiesa.

Chiesa and Anthony Pettis were slated to fight each other at the UFC 223 pay-per-view event in April in Brooklyn, NY. However, the bout got scrapped once Chiesa suffered facial lacerations due to this bus attack. They did the fight at the UFC 226 event where Chiesa lost by submission.

Recently, photos of former UFC middleweight and welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre looking much smaller surfaced online.

The expectation was that St-Pierre was gradually cutting down to lightweight to face the winner of UFC 229’s Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Conor McGregor megafight. St-Pierre has been out of action since he broke a four-year semi-retirement to return and fight former middleweight champ Michael Bisping at last November’s UFC 217.

‘Rush’ won the title but vacated it shortly thereafter after suffering digestive issues due to the increased caloric intake required to fight at 185. He’s been rumored to be aiming for either Khabib or McGregor, but St-Pierre said via SportsNet that’s not the case:

”I didn’t say I was going to do it. People headlined me the wrong way, to sell articles. That’s the society we live in.”

The MMA legend claims he’s not looking to commit to any specific fight right now:

”I don’t want to sign a contract for a fight right now. I don’t want to say I’m going to commit to something.”

If and when he does come back for another fight, he’s only interested in the biggest possible match-ups. And it’s not only for the money involved but for the perceived boost to his legacy. That’s why it has to be so big according to the MMA great because he says he’s putting so much more on the line:

”I want to come back for a good fight. I want to come back for a fight that I can win, that I can gain something in terms of legacy. Not only money, but in terms of legacy. Because I have a lot more to lose than to win.”

There doesn’t seem to be anything bigger than a possible third title-winning bout with Khabib or McGregor, even though a welterweight title bout with champion Tyron Woodley is now being discussed after Woodley’s submission over Darren Till at UFC 228 last night.

Is St-Pierre diverting his true intentions?

Now that last night’s UFC 228 from Dallas is in the rearview mirror, the focus of the mixed martial arts (MMA) world will understandably shift to October 6’s UFC 229 from Las Vegas.

In the main event, lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov will face former champion Conor McGregor in what many are calling the biggest fight in MMA history.

The beef began back at April’s UFC 223 when McGregor stormed the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York, and threw a metal hand dolly through a bus containing Nurmagomedov. McGregor was arrested but reached a plea deal with prosecutors in July.

That paved the way for what could legitimately be the biggest lightweight – or any – title match in UFC history. To get pumped up for the historic fight, check out the UFC’s three all-new promo videos here.

Conor McGregor’s Bus Attack Still Has Rose Namajunas Traumatized

Rose Namajunas still can’t go out in public because of Conor McGregor’s Brooklyn attack.

Conor McGregor may be returning at October’s UFC 229, but the effects of his April Brooklyn bus attack that left Rose Namajunas traumatized still resonate.

The UFC women’s strawweight champion almost didn’t participate in her rematch with former champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 223. ‘Thug’ Rose was in the bus that McGregor attacked with a metal dolly and saw the chaos firsthand.

“The Notorious” was aiming for his current rival Khabib Nurmagomedov, yet he ended up spraying broken glass onto other fighters. Ray Borg and Michael Chiesa were unable to fight due to injuries sustained.  Namajunas, however, may have been left with most lasting damage. The 115-pound champion reportedly suffered some severe anxiety.

That hasn’t subsided, unfortunately. Namajunas’ coach Trevor Wittman recently revealed on “Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show” that the champion still has trouble going outside:

“She doesn’t leave her house. It’s still there. She doesn’t go in public places. When you’re in a public place and there’s people everywhere, you’re going to be like ‘Oh my god, what could happen?’ Like if you’re involved in a 9/11 bombing, it’s gonna be hard to be in a city scenario. Every time you get in an elevator you’re gonna think of it.”

Wittman also called the UFC’s usage of the attack footage as promotional material as poor taste. There’s no doubt it will help sell the massive lightweight title fight between McGregor and Nurmagomedov at October 6’s UFC 229, but the fight was going to sell and sell big anyway.

Namajunas’ coach thinks it’s simply not classy to use others’ emotional trauma to sell fights. In today’s money-focused UFC era, that obviously doesn’t matter.

Namajunas was able to overcome her fears and defend her title against Jedrzjczyk at UFC 223. Her problems appear to be lingering on far past that due to the sheer veracity of the attack.

The UFC women’s 115-pound champ does not have a fight scheduled as of this writing. If she’s unable to go out in public for the time being, it could be some time before we see her again.
