UFC President Dana White has dealt with Anderson Silva for over a decade, including Silva’s first failed PED test after his UFC 183 bout against Nick Diaz.

White was asked about Silva’s situation after a now second failed test leading into his canceled headliner against Kelvin Gastelum at UFC Shanghai and did not give much uplifting news regarding the disgraced former champion.

During a media luncheon in Las Vegas last week, White had this to say about Silva:

“Obviously (I was) bummed out. I was bummed out. I don’t know. They’ve been pretty radio silent. I talked to Ed Soares a couple times and he hadn’t even really talked to Anderson.”

Silva attributed his first failed PED test to some kind of erectile dysfunction medication he was given to by a friend. USADA and the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) didn’t believe him, and he was suspended a full year for his indiscretion.

His team recently gave a similar explanation this time around, claiming the ever-popular tainted supplement defense, but if the outcome of his first excuse didn’t work, it could be extremely unlikely that

The 42-year-old legend is likely facing a longer suspension this time around being that this is his second offense, and even though his team suggests that “The Spider” will fight on, he’s running out of time – and excuses – as PED-related issues cloud the end of his otherwise great career.

What do you think about Silva’s legacy? Will it be cast aside due to two failed drug tests, or will the fact that he was not caught during his nearly seven-year run as middleweight champion still lend him a spot amongst the best mixed martial arts combatants of all-time?

Jose Aldo Responds To Anderson Silva’s Second Failed Test

Brazilian MMA legend Jose Aldo has looked up to longtime former champion Anderson Silva for a decade, and now that “The Spider” has been caught for the second time using performance-enhancing drugs, “Junior” feels that Silva’s legacy has taken a massive hit.

Aldo expressed his thoughts to MMA Fighting on recent failed drug tests from his fellow Brazilian mixed martial artists as he prepares to rematch Max Holloway for the featherweight belt:

“It’s hard to say what happened. He’s an icon of the sport, he’s an idol for me and for MMA fans. Man, I don’t know, I can’t say much about it because I don’t know what happened.

“But with Junior ‘Cigano,’ no,” he continued. “Junior ‘Cigano’ and I have the same doctor, we come from the same lineage, so I don’t believe he took anything that enhances the performance or something like that. I think he’s more innocent than guilty.

“And I don’t know what happened with ‘Minotouro.’ I think athletes today make the mistake of trying to self-medicate sometimes without asking their own doctors, and that can hurt you. USADA and WADA change a lot the components that are doping, we receive e-mails all the time saying what is and what is not, but sometimes you make a mistake and it happens.”

Silva first tested positive for PEDs following his fight with Nick Diaz at UFC 183. The former longtime middleweight champ was pulled from his main event bout with Kelvin Gastelum at today’s UFC Shanghai for failing pre-fight out-of-competition drug test.

Many fighters have obviously popped for PEDs after USADA began increased, around-the-clock drug testing for UFC competitors in July 2015. As Aldo stated, former heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos has also been punished for failing a drug test, as well as Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.

Do you think Silva’s legacy has been tarnished following his second failed test?

Earlier this week, it was announced that former longtime UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva had once again been flagged by USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) for a potential anti-doping violation, forcing the UFC to pull him from his scheduled main event bout against Kelvin Gastelum at November 25’s UFC Fight Night 122 in Shanghai, China.

Following the news, Silva released the following statement:

“Obviously I think everything is part of a process of evolution. With each passing day, I can learn more about who I am. I’m here to thank all my fans, especially my coaches and all the contributors for this long journey. I can’t express my feelings and how sad I am, because we all invest love, passion and time in this camp. I don’t know exactly the plans of God for me.

But anyway, I can only thank him and all of you for the love and affection. Nothing is more gratifying at this moment than having you by my side. I will not give up, much less stop doing what I love. Not because of fame or money, it’s because I love to fight. So no matter what happens from now on, nothing changes. My plans are the same. Nothing has changed. A big kiss for everyone and see you soon.”

Now, “The Spider” has released a second statement via his official Twitter account indicating that his medical team is working with USADA to figure out what triggered the positive test and how it entered Silva’s system:

To All my fans,

Thank you so much for all of the support you have shown me over the past week. This means a lot to both my family and I…I just want to keep you updated on what’s going on now. My medical team is working very closely with USADA to find out the reason for my suspension of UFC SHANGHAI… hopefully we will get more news very soon. I have been fighting for the past 20 years and always try to be an example to my fans and to my spot ….

Again, I want to thank all of you for your support and hope to see you soon for my next fight…

“The Spider”

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time that Silva has dealt with a failed drug test. After his UFC 183 fight against Nick Diaz in January 2015, it was revealed that Silva had tested positive for a banned substance and he was subsequently suspended for one year.

How do you expect this situation to play out?
