MMA Legend ‘Totally Understands’ Khabib’s Post-UFC 229 Attack

One notable MMA figure understands why Khabib Nurmagomedov jumped the Octagon at UFC 229 to attack McGregor cornerman Dillon Danis.

Things got way out of hand after UFC 229 earlier this month (Sat. October 6, 2018).

UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov successfully defended his title against Conor McGregor. “The Eagle” submitted the Irishman via fourth-round neck crank. After the fight, however, madness erupted. Khabib, who was allegedly heckled by McGregor cornerman Dillon Danis, hopped the Octagon and went after the jiu-jitsu specialist.

They began to brawl outside the Octagon, sparking another melee inside the cage. A few of Khabib’s teammates entered the cage and attacked McGregor. “The Notorious” ate a few sucker punches before the commission was able to get the situation under control. Both McGregor and Khabib are facing complaints from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC).

Many people are pointing the finger at Khabib for losing his composure and sparking the entire ordeal by hopping the cage. However, many are also failing to realize the verbal onslaught he had to endure from McGregor in the lead-up to the contest.

McGregor insulted Khabib’s country, family, and religion. Danis’ alleged antics were apparently the straw that broke the camel’s back. Speaking to Submission Radio recently, mixed martial arts (MMA) legend Bas Rutten offered his thoughts on the matter.

The palm-striking maestro admitted that the incident should’ve never happened, however, he did understand where Khabib was coming from:

“Okay, first, let’s say this, it shouldn’t have happened, it’s wrong. I know that it’s all wrong. It should not have happened, I’m not for it. Not at all. But I can totally get it, right? We’re all human. He’s been taking insults for the last six weeks, two months, every day. Every day he decided not to say anything back.

“Yeah, a little here and there, but you know what it is? That’s a drop in a bucket, and it keeps on going and it keeps on going and it keeps on going. And after the fight, finally, the fight is over, they’re finally unloading, and then the coach for McGregor starts saying something to him. That was the drop that made the bucket flow, and he just lost it at that moment.”

Rutten claimed at that point, all of the bad blood McGregor had built with his insults came out in a kind of physical manifestation. “El Guapo” said even the most stoic of men like Khabib could not hold that down anymore:

“Then, everything came back – all the insults about his family, about his religion, about his country. You know, there’s a lot of things (Conor said). And everybody says the same thing, but people go, ‘come on, Bas, you can understand it?’ I say, you can’t understand that? Of course I can understand. Everybody’s human.

“What, he’s a machine? He doesn’t get effected by it? If somebody talks about my family and my religion and my culture, ‘oh, these stupid people from Holland,’ and it’s constantly going, and ‘your friends are terrorists,’ and it just keeps on digging, eventually, yeah, you’re going to hit a snare somewhere.”

Rutten reinforced his belief that the melee should never have happened. He wanted people to remember, however, that McGregor did something similar before UFC 223, so his fans should maybe lighten up in Khabib.

Overall, the all-time MMA legend knows the two will have to face the music from the NSAC:

“And then when the moment presents itself and they keep on going after it, yeah, I can completely understand it. Should it have ever happened? Of course not, I’m not for it. I’m not saying it’s good. Absolutely not. But I can understand it happened. That’s the only thing I’m saying. Well, I said the same thing when Conor went wrong (at UFC 223), right?

“I said, the fans of Conor should give him a break. I mean, we all do stupid stuff, I said at the time. But he’s gonna have to pay for what he does, of course. He needs to go to the athletic commission, and whatever fine it is, well, he’s gonna have to pay that. For sure.”

10 Times MMA Stars Went Crazy Overseas

Some major MMA stars went crazy overseas in the early days of the sport.

The post 10 Times MMA Stars Went Crazy Overseas appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

MMA is a global sport, and as such stars often find themselves traveling overseas to all kinds of exotic and outlandish locations to train or fight.

As you’ll see in this article, that can often lead to some of the craziest, scariest and most bizarre experiences of their lives.

Eddie Alvarez Knocks Out Mafia Man In Russia

Back in 2007, ‘The Underground King,’ Eddie Alvarez was the welterweight champion for Bodog Fighting Championships and traveled to St. Petersburg, Russia, to defend his title against Nick Thompson.

Following the event, he attended an after-party on a yacht hosted by one of Bodog’s owners from Russia, where, according to fellow fighter Chael Sonnen who was also in attendance that night, a Russian gangster at the party punched one of the Bodog ring girls.

Outraged by what he’d just witnessed and not realizing who he was dealing with, Alvarez then stepped forward and knocked him out cold with one punch.

Sonnen says that portion of the story is 100% true, but admits that he doesn’t have concrete proof of what happened next, though the rumor was that Alvarez was then escorted from the yacht by Russian mobsters and taken out to the middle of nowhere, where a hole was dug and his life was threatened before they finally set him free.

10 Insane Stories About MMA Legend Bas Rutten

Only Bas Rutten could find himself in these insane – and hilarious – situations.

The post 10 Insane Stories About MMA Legend Bas Rutten appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

A true mixed martial arts (MMA) pioneer, UFC heavyweight champion, Hall of Famer, and three-time King Of Pancrase, Bas Rutten enjoyed a storied career in the sport before moving on to commentate for the legendary PRIDE organization in its heyday.

He’s also renowned for being one of the most colorful, charismatic fighters ever to compete in either the ring or the cage.

“El Guapo’s” antics outside of fighting are also legendary, and in this article, you’ll discover just that as we recall 10 of his best stories featuring everything from crazy car crashes to chaotic barroom brawls.

Enjoy:

Swedish Bar Fight

Of all Rutten’s stories, the most infamous occurred one drunken night back in the mid-1990s at the renowned Spy Bar in Stockholm, Sweden.

Before he even entered the nightspot that night, bouncers had warned the star not to cause any trouble, but even though he did little more than party hard, it wasn’t long before they took him to the side and insisted he leave.

Though he agreed, the bouncers seemed intent on causing trouble and started shoving him before things escalated further when one lunged forward and poked him in the eye.

Karma was served swiftly, however, as Rutten landed a single punch that knocked the bouncer out. But he still had 4-5 others to contend with, and so as he continued fighting he realized he had to make his escape. After running down a staircase he noticed a rack of broomstick handles and grabbed one to help defend himself, but then thought better of it since his pursuers might also use them, so he put it back and continued on.

Unfortunately for him, when the bouncers passed the same area they all grabbed the makeshift weapons and then cornered him at the exit, which was locked, leaving Rutten trapped. He turned to face them, ready to go down swinging, but the approaching bouncers suddenly stopped. Puzzled, Rutten turned around and saw that a swarm of police cars had shown up and were now waiting outside the exit.

Rutten ended up being thrown in jail that night and was facing six to nine months behind bars due to the fact that one of the people he’d KO’d turned out to be a policeman, but after some negotiation, he was released a few days later without charge with quite a story to tell.

Seven Potential Replacements For Dana White

Check out seven possible replacements the UFC could hire for Dana White:

The post Seven Potential Replacements For Dana White appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Nothing lasts forever, and even the mighty Dana White will one day step down as the president and face of the UFC.

Love him or hate him, White has been at the helm of the combat sports giant since Zuffa purchased it back in January of 2001. Under White’s leadership, the UFC has grown into a multi-billion dollar, global phenomenon, and the unquestioned leader of mixed martial arts (MMA).

That’s not to say White hasn’t ruffled a few feathers along the way, a career that spans more than 15 years is bound to challenge the status quo. Brash and unapologetic at times, and at other times brutally honest, inconsistency has been the only constant in White’s run as UFC president.

When Zuffa sold the Ultimate Fighting Championship to the William Morris Endeavor in 2016 for $4.2 billion, many people questioned whether White would also part ways with the company he helped build. He obviously has not; however, as of late people have started to notice that White seems increasingly disinterested and at times flippant.

With that in mind, we explored the MMA universe to bring you seven possible replacements for White. Enjoy.

CombatPress

Chael Sonnen

If you saw this one coming, give yourself a pat on the back because you, my friend, have a keen MMA eye. Sonnen is perhaps the most obvious choice to fill White’s shoes, and maybe best suited to follow such an act.

If “The American Gangster” did have ambitions of reigning over the UFC, he would first need to be released from his existing Bellator contract, which most likely would not be an issue considering the kinship between himself and Scott Coker.

The more practical sticking point may be the incredible freedom the Viacom owned promotion bestows on Chael. Would he really want to trade his relatively light workload with big bucks, for a back-breaking work schedule with comparable pay?
