Georges St-Pierre willing to help Jake Paul’s fighter union push, claims most MMA career ends are ‘horror stories’

Georges St-Pierre

Former undisputed UFC welterweight and middleweight champion, Georges St-Pierre has claimed that if the union efforts currently led by undefeated professional boxer, Jake Paul are well organized, he will back the movement, in a bid to bring an end to the usual “horror” story that comes with retiring from professional mixed martial arts.

St-Pierre, a former duel-weight champion under the UFC banner, most recently competed in his hiatus-snapping return in 2017, defeating then-undisputed middleweight champion, Michael Bisping with a rear-naked choke win to become a two-weight Octagon gold holder.

In the time since, the Canadian icon, who is recognised as arguably the greatest mixed martial arts fighter of all-time, has officially retired from active competition, and recently revealed that while a comeback far from an eventuality, his contract with the UFC has also expired.

As for Paul, the undefeated Ohio native has been vocal in promotion of his fights in his wish to create a fighters union in order to secure higher percentages of revenue from promotors in mixed martial arts – and recently improved to 6-0 with a unanimous decision win over former UFC middleweight titleholder, Anderson Silva earlier this month.

Georges St-Pierre backs an eventual fighters union

Commenting on the call for a fighters union to be installed into the sport, St-Pierre claimed he would interested in backing Paul – if the union prepared was organized.

“It’s not a question of it it should happen, a union – it’s a question of when it will happen,” Georges St-Pierre told MMA Fighting. “It will happen, because it happened in boxing, it happened in basketball, in hockey, in all professional sports. And mixed martial arts, unfortunately, it’s a young sport. It’s still a new sport; not as new as it was 20 years ago, but it’s still relatively young. Sooner or later, it will happen. …”

“It will happen in MMA, it’s just a question of time and it needs to be done with the right people,” Georges St-Pierre continued. “I’m always going to do things that are for the fighters, that are right for the fighters. That’s my thing, if the organization is done well, I’m willing to do anything to help the fighters, yeah.”

On November 13, Floyd Mayweather will return to the squared circle for an exhibition bout with YouTuber Deji Olatunji.

Emanating from Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai, the event features a stacked night of fights that includes Tommy Fury competing in the co-main event and the boxing debut of former WWE Superstar and current AEW wrestler, Bobby Fish.

The card will also feature Anthony Taylor, an accomplished mixed martial artist who has competed under the Bellator banner. Taylor is most notable for being Jake Paul’s sparring partner. During a media event ahead of the boxing showcase scheduled for next weekend, Taylor decided to go into business for himself, jumping on the microphone and lobbying for a fight with Mayweather in a rant that left everybody in attendance feeling a bit awkward.

“Lets be honest, what I think we really want to see is ‘Pretty Boy’ Anthony Taylor vs. ‘Money’ Floyd Mayweather. Now that’s a fight! Personality, personality. I’m the most qualified fighter to be fighting Floyd Mayweather in exhibition. I fought on Showtime. Some of the biggest fights ya’ll ever seen on pay-per-view. I deserve to fight Floyd.

“He already said he’s never seen Deji. I’m the f*cking ‘Pretty Boy’ baby! Former ‘Pretty Boy’ now ‘Money’ Mayweather. Anthony ‘Pretty Boy’ Taylor vs. Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather. Dubai! England! Vegas! Come on baby! I’m here by myself! I’m here by myself. No daddy like Tommy [Fury]. No bodyguards. By myself. I can take care of myself. Anthony ‘Pretty Boy’ Taylor. Ya’ll remember that name. Remember that name. That’s what I’m talking about.”

Floyd Mayweather Tries to Respond to Anthony Taylor’s Outburst

Floyd Mayweather did his best to try and respond to Anthony Taylor’s comments but was hilariously stopped short of completing his thought.

“We all gotta be respectful. We all come from… We all got a background where we come from. He may be a good fighter. I don’t know.”

At that point, a member of the live crowd could be heard yelling, “He stinks,” getting a noticeable laugh from many of the media members in attendance and Mayweather himself.

Anthony Taylor currently holds a record of 7-5 in mixed martial arts per Tapology, but he is yet to find much success inside the squared circle. In five career professional boxing bouts, Taylor holds a record of 2-3, most notably losing to Tommy Fury via unanimous decision on the undercard for Jake Paul’s first fight with Tyron Woodley. Taylor competed on the Paul vs. Woodley 2 undercard as well, losing to Chris Avila via majority decision.

Video footage has emerged of Nick Maximov throwing a beer at one of Jake Paul’s bodyguards during an incident that took place at the Paul vs Anderson Silva boxing event.

Team Diaz was at the event in support of their fellow teammate, Chris Avila, who was competing on the undercard of Paul vs Silva. Diaz’s appearance also increased the speculation surrounding him taking on the ‘Problem Child’ in a boxing match in the future.

Wherever Diaz and his entourage go, carnage always seems to follow, and it appears this event was no different. As the two teams walked past each other backstage it seems words word exchanged which resulted in a scuffle between the two sides.  At the time it was unclear exactly what had happened; however, footage has now emerged from the altercation which shows recently released now former UFC athlete Nick Maximov throwing a beer at one of Paul’s bodyguards.

The footage shows Nate Diaz and Chris Avila shouting at Paul’s bodyguard with both teams going back and forth at each other. Not seen during the footage is Diaz slapping Paul’s meditation coach before Nick Maximov would launch the bottle toward team Paul.

Team Diaz would not remain in the venue following the incident as Jake Paul would go on to defeat former UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva, via decision.

Following on from his victory Paul called out Diaz and challenged him to a fight.

“I want Nate Diaz, who’s a b*tch,” Paul said. “He tried to come into my locker room. He tried to cause some sh*t, and then he always leaves the f*cking arena. So Nate Diaz, stop being a b*tch and fight me.” (Transcribed by BJPenn.com)

Diaz has yet to respond to Paul’s call, with the former UFC contender recently finishing his contract with the promotion he would be more than able to accept the call and enter the ring against Jake Paul.

Nick Maximov recently released by the UFC

Nick Maximov found himself on the chopping block along with a number of other athletes who have been released by the UFC during this past week. Maximov competed on DWCS before making his official promotional debut at UFC 266, defeating Cody Brundage via unanimous decision. He would follow this victory by then defeating Punahele Soriano via a split decision in February of this year.

Maximov would then drop two back-to-back, firstly a submission defeat to Andre Petroski in May before coming up short against Jacob Malkoun only last month. Diaz’s departure from the promotion has many people wondering whether this affected Maximov’s position within the UFC.

Should Nate Diaz accept the call, would you be interested in seeing him box Jake Paul?
