Deontay Wilder, Francis Ngannou

Deontay Wilder talked about training with Francis Ngannou and the idea of facing him inside the ring one day.

UFC heavyweight champion Ngannou has been on the sidelines since his last outing against former interim title holder Ciryl Gane in Jan. at UFC 270. “The Predator” went into the bout with a torn MCL and damaged ACL that he suffered in training. Ngannou unified the heavyweight titles and handed Gane the first professional loss of his career using a surprisingly grappling-heavy gameplan.

Deontay Wilder trained with Francis Ngannou at the UFC Apex

In a video shared by The Mac Life on YouTube, Deontay Wilder shared that he got the chance to get a workout in with Ngannou while training at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Yeah, for sure (I ran into him before),” Wilder said. “He’s been in this area, in this gym before. Me and him training together so all love.”

Wilder is set to mark his return to action against Robert Helenius on Oct. 15 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Coming off two consecutive losses, including his first ever defeat, Wilder will look to get back to winning ways after a year-long hiatus.

Wilder commented on a potential outing with Ngannou

Ngannou has been rallying for a shot at former boxing champion Tyson Fury. However, he needs the green light from the UFC, who are not too keen on the idea. Ngannou is adamant that he will not re-sign with the promotion if they don’t let him box but no concrete developments have come as of yet.

When asked about potentially competing against Ngannou, Wilder did not rule out the possibility.

“Maybe one day who knows the future is bright. Oct. 15 right now is what we are focused on the most. But hey man, a lot of things are in the works for the future.”

Former undisputed UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva has laid out his desire to hold his final professional fight in the country of Japan, claiming a return to Asia to bow out of combat sports “completely makes sense” after the Brazilian icon laid the path for his star-studded career in the region.

Silva, 47, began his professional mixed martial arts career back in June 1997 in his native Brazil, before travelling to Japan in March 2001 at a Shooto 2 event to take on Tatsuji Kato in an eventual unanimous decision win for the veteran.

Set to make his combat sports return next month in Phoenix, Arizona – Silva, a native of Sao Paulo, is scheduled to tackle undefeated professional boxer, Jake Paul over the course of 12 rounds in a professional boxing match.

The former UFC middleweight champion made his return to the squared circle triumphantly with a clear-cut, split decision win over former boxing world champion, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. – to go with a first round knockout win over former undisputed UFC light heavyweight champion, Tito Ortiz.

Anderson Silva floats potential retirement fight in Japan

Speaking on his potential career swansong, Silva, who competed on seven separate occasions in Japan over the course of his iconic professional mixed martial arts career, insisted he would like to call a halt to his tenure in the country.

“Oh, you know, when I stopped doing my last fight in the UFC, I talked to Japan about doing my last fight there,” Anderson Silva told Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour. “Because it completely makes sense, because I [started fighting] my professional career in Japan.”

“My first title belt I took in Japan in Shooto,” Anderson Silva continued. “And, yeah, maybe I want to fight in Japan. My last fight, you know, to prove my respect for the people of Japan, for my fans in Japan, too. And we’ll see. I don’t know.”

Silva, a dominant former undisputed middleweight champion under the UFC banner, managed to land a total 10 successful title defenses during his time atop the division. Silva’s tenure with the organization came to a close back in October 2020 in the form of a knockout loss to the recently retired, Uriah Hall.

Anderson Silva, Dana White

Anderson Silva is not a fan of Dana White giving his take on fights.

Former UFC middleweight champion Silva is widely regarded as one of the best mixed martial artists of all time. During his prime, Silva was a dominant force to be reckoned with and holds the record for the most consecutive wins in the promotion. White and Silva had their rocky moments, with White bashing the latter for putting on a boring performance at UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi.

Anderson Silva reveals his one problem with Dana White

In an appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Silva revealed the one thing he does not like about White.

“My problem with Dana is [when he] talks about fights because Dana has never fought MMA in his life,” Silva said (ht MMA Fighting). “That’s my problem, when he talks about, ‘You can’t do that, can’t do that, you don’t fight correctly.’ No, no, no, that’s my only problem with Dana. I think Dana is a good person. Everybody talks about Dana, ‘He’s not good, blah blah blah.’ He’s a good person, but he’s a businessman. UFC doesn’t get to this point now as a big, big company in the world if the people think, ‘I did something, I’m sorry fighters, I did something incorrect.’ No, the company grew up because of hustlers doing something and that’s the game.

You’re inside or not. You can sign or not sign, you can go anywhere, but when you sign, you make the deal with my company. You can’t say nothing because why did you sign? You signed. You have a contract. ‘Oh no, let me out of the contract.’ You signed the contract, you’ve seen the rules of the contract, why are you talking about it now? And I’m so lucky because I’m not in the UFC anymore and I have my own journey right now. I don’t need to say, ‘Can I do that?’ I don’t need to ask permission from the UFC or from Dana for absolutely nothing anymore.”

Dana White claims Canelo Alvarez x Gennady Golovkin 3 ‘happened too late’, comments on PPV buyrate

Canelo AlvarezUFC president, Dana White has claimed that last weekend’s trilogy title fight between middleweight kingpin, Canelo Alvarez, and former champion, Gennady Golovkin “happened too late” in the pair’s respective careers, as well as speculating on the reported buyrate as a direct result of late matchmaking. Canelo Alvarez

UFC president, Dana White has claimed that last weekend’s trilogy title fight between middleweight kingpin, Canelo Alvarez, and former champion, Gennady Golovkin “happened too late” in the pair’s respective careers, as well as speculating on the reported buyrate as a direct result of late matchmaking.

Sharing the squared circle for the third time last weekend at the T-Mobile Arena, Canelo managed to turn in a one-sided unanimous decision win over three-time foe, Golovkin – after scoring a prior close decision win in the pair’s rematch.

Initially fighting back in September 2017, Canelo and Golovkin battled over the course of 12 rounds en route to a split draw, as pundits questioned the scorecards in both the first and second bout between the duo.

Speaking following last night’s Contender Series event at the UFC apex facility, promotional president, Dana White reacted to reports that Canelo x Golovkin 3 drew 575,000 pay-per-view buys, claiming that the reason likely comes due to untimely matchmaking in the pair’s rivalry.

“Yeah, 100 percent,” Dana White told assembled media during his post-fight media availability. “The fight (Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin 3) was too late. That fight should have happened four years ago.”

White’s comments come off the back of prior criticism from former boxing world champion and Golden Boy Promotions leader, Oscar De La Hoya – who lambasted Canelo’s performance and claimed Golovkin was too old to be competing at the highest level.

“The truth is everyone is afraid of speaking the truth, the fight (between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin) was a f*cking dud,” Oscar De La Hoya tweeted. “GGG was old ass (sic) f*ck and Canelo (Alvarez) can’t hold (Bernard) Hopkins’ jockstrap.”

Canelo Alvarez managed to rebound from defeat with his win over Gennady Golovkin

With this month’s win, Canelo rebounded from just his second career loss after he dropped a unanimous decision defeat against Dmitry Bivol back in May in a pursuit for the WBA light heavyweight crown.
