Brock Lesnar

Former UFC heavyweight champion and professional wrestling star, Brock Lesnar, has opened up on his encounter with the late, former heavyweight boxing champion, Muhammad Ali – describing the latter’s embrace and overall aura as “powerful”.

Lesnar, a former undisputed heavyweight champion under the UFC banner, has yet to return to professional mixed martial arts since a July 2016 official ‘No Contest’ against Mark Hunt at UFC 200. Lesnar originally landed a unanimous decision win at the T-Mobile Arena, however, the result was overturned to a ‘No Contest’ after Brock Lesnar’s pre-fight drug test was flagged by anti-doping agency, USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency).

As for the iconic, Ali, the Kentucky hero passed away back in June 2016, after a prolonged battle with Parkinson’s, and his declining health, having last competed professionally in 1981. Ali, regarded as one of the greatest heavyweights and professional boxers of all-time, as well as argued as the greatest puncher of his generation, retired from the sport boasting a 56-5 professional record.

In the time since his most recent professional mixed martial arts bout, Brock Lesnar returned to professional wrestling under the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) banner, recently closing their flagship, Summerslam event against fellow professional wrestler, Roman Reigns.

Brock Lesnar admitted his encounter with Muhammad Ali impacted him greatly

Reflecting on a brief encounter with Ali, Lesnar admitted back in 2016 before his UFC return, that he was impacted by the “powerful” energy omitted from the Louisville legend.

“I got to meet (Muhammad) Ali one time and all I remember when I met and shook the man’s hand was, he never talked, at that point, Parkinson’s had taken over,” Brock Lesnar said. “But I just remember when he (Muhammad Ali) extended his hand and he didn’t have to say anything to me, it was just – not a weird vibe, it was such a gracious handshake and it was just very, I can’t even put a word to it.”
“So, I felt something powerful from the man,” Brock Lesnar explained. “I watched pretty much all of his fights, I met him one-time and he never spoke a word to me but I felt the presence and power from him. So it was impactful for sure, here’s a guy who’s a boxer, who’s selling tickets, walking the walk and talking the talk. He set the stage, it’s big business, you’ve got to be flashy on the outside and flashy on the inside.”

“It’s a tragedy, my heart goes out to the family, to live with Parkinson’s for so many years, very difficult,” Lesnar said. “That’s just a battle inside, forget how great of a champion he was. The man had to live with Parkinson’s for how many years? That’s a feat in its own.”

Undefeated professional boxer, Claressa Shields has claimed that her unbeaten counterpart, Jake Paul rejected the opportunity to compete against her in sparring – walking away from a reported $100,000 payday.

Claressa Shields fights for WBO gold against Savannah Miller next month

Shields, an undefeated professional boxer boasting a 12-0 professional record, is set to return to the squared circle in September against Savannah Miller – defending her IBF, WBA, WBF, and WBC middleweight titles as she challenges for WBO gold.

As for Paul, the content creator and YouTuber-turned professional boxer, has been out of action since December of last year, where he headlined a Showtime card in Florida against former UFC welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley, scoring a devastating knockout win in a rematch against the St. Louis native.

Paul was scheduled to headline a Madison Square Garden card this week against first Tommy Fury, however, the main event clash was shelved amid travel issues for Fury.

The Ohio native then penned a deal to fight Hasim Rahman Jr. – the son of former heavyweight champion, Hasim Rahman, however, weight issues encountered last weekend forced the cancellation of the New York showdown.

Voicing her displeasure with Paul’s involvement in professional boxing as of late, Shields, who recently made the transition to professional mixed martial asts with the PFL (Professional Fighters League), claimed the former rejected a $100,000 to spar against her.

“I told him (Jake Paul) that we could spar for $100,000 and whoever wins gets that $100,000,” Claressa Shields told GiveMeSport during a recent interview. “He didn’t want to spar against me. And I’ve actually seen Jake Paul in person two or three times but he didn’t say anything.”

“I’ve seen people run up to him and ask for pictures,” Claressa Shields continued. “I’m not one of those people. That’s never going to happen with me. I’m not a fan of him. I do think he’s funny. He should be like a comedian or something. But I’m not a fan of the dude. I think what he’s doing in boxing and bringing more eys is great. But I just can jiggy with the whole thing like his attitude sucks.”

Shields dislike of Paul also stems from the outspoken Ohio native’s decision to poke fun at her for her split decision loss against Abigail Montes in October of last year under the PFL banner.

“He started talking sh*t after I lost my MMA fight by split decision and he was trying to big up the other girl who beat me and I was like, ‘Dude, you didn’t even say congrats when i won my first MMA fight,’” Claressa Shields explained.

Chris Eubank Jr.

Following the cancellation of his scheduled headliner against Hasim Rahman Jr. this weekend, undefeated professional boxer, Jake Paul has received a quite surprising offer from surging middleweight contender, Chris Eubank Jr. – who has noted his willingness to fight the Ohio native next weekend.

Scheduled firstly to fight with Tommy Fury, the half brother of WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury this month, Paul saw his rescheduled matchup with the Manchester native shelved as Fury dealt with travel issues.

In turn, Paul would then book an August 6. headliner at Madison Square Garden in New York against Rahman Jr. – the son of former heavyweight champion, Hasim Rahman.

However, over the course of the weekend, Paul and his promotional team, MVP (Most Valuable Promotions) confirmed his fight with Rahman Jr. had been canceled due to “weight issues” between Rahman Jr. and the NYSAC (New York State Athletic Commission).

Chris Eubank Jr. offers to fight Jake Paul next week in New York

In some quite surprising news, however, Paul has been offered a lifeline in order to keep his August squared circle comeback alive, with the aforenoted, former super-middleweight champion, Chris Eubank Jr. offering to fight him.

“Fumbles & Crumbles (Tommy Fury and Hasim Rahman Jr.) are not ‘boxers’ they are guys who put gloves on every now & again for clout… no different to you,” Chris Eubank tweeted at Jake Paul. “I’m fighting in a couple months but I can squeeze you into my schedule next week & save your show if you have the hear to get into the ring with a REAL boxer.”

This recent callout from Chris Eubank Jr. does not come as the first occasion in which the former world champion grabbed the attention of Paul, as he offered to fight him in the future – with the victor earning a fight with middleweight division kingpin, Canelo Alvarez.

As for Eubank Jr., the Hove native has been linked with a blockbuster all-British showdown with Conor Benn in October – the son of former two-division champion, Nigel Benn – who himself twice fought Chris Eubank Sr.

Former UFC fighter, Chael Sonnen has ripped into the boxing community over the matter of Jake Paul, labeling them scared and stating that “the community does not want to accept that an outsider.”

Mere days ago, social media star, Jake Paul announced that he had canceled his August 6 fight against Hasim Rahman Jr. due to Rahman’s weight issues.

Rahman himself was a late replacement, stepping in for Brit Tommy Fury, who was denied a visa due to The United States.

Rahman had signed the fight to be contested at 200lbs, but when the New York State Athletic Commission (NYASC) completed a weight check, he weighed 215lbs. NYSAC ruled that due to the weight being so high close out to the fight, they would not commission the bout unless it was contested at 205lbs.

Paul would agree to the five-pound weight jump, but Rahman’s team informed that they planned on pulling out of the fight unless it was bumped even further, all the way up to 215lbs, forcing the fight to be canceled.

Chael Sonnen Defends Jake Paul

Although Paul has many detractors, one man who has always been on his side is former UFC title challenger, Chael Sonnen.

Sonnen, who has always been one fan of the self-promotion side of combat sports, would defend Paul, slamming the boxing community in the process.

“I begged him, Jake” Sonnen began. “Don’t do the Tommy fury thing. Not only does Tommy not want that fight, neither does the community of boxing, they’re setting ya up. They’re setting you up because they, the community, are just as scared as the boys in the locker room that you’re as good as you’re saying you are.”

“The community does not want to accept that an outsider, who did not start this as a second generation the day he came out of the womb, can be a main event and a box office draw. They don’t want to, they’re going to talk you into Tommy Fury and the second you say yes, they’re going to start tearing you down, so that your loss looks magnificent, and your victory looks small.”

Making his professional combat sports debut over the course of last weekend in Dubai, social media star, The Iranian Hulk, real name, Sajad Gharibi, suffered a one-sided first round TKO loss to his Kazakhstan Titan counterpart, real name, Almat Bakhytovich.

The Iranian Hulk, who garnered much attention over the course of the last 18 months to two years, was initially scheduled to fight against British powerlifter and strongman, Martyn Ford under the KSW banner, however, the matchup was infamously cancelled.

Lacking any real technical striking over the course of the single round affair, the Iranian Hulk was largely out-struck by the Kazakh Titan in the first frame, before the officiating referee called a halt to proceedings.

Turning his back and shied away from the offense he was receiving, the Iranian Hulk was offered and utilized a bizarre one minute timeout in order to collect himself, before he was eventually dropped by the Kazakh Titan, with the referee eventually then calling a permanent halt to the bizarre bout.

Many have speculated the Iranian Hulk’s physique has been heavily edited on social media

Discouraged from ever competing in professional combat sports again off the back of his loss to the Kazakh Titan, the Iranian Hulk was backed to fight the aforenoted, Ford on multiple occasions, however, the latter consistently questioned the condition of his would-be opponent. And speculated that the Iranian Hulk would fall into a negative mental state off the back of their proposed matchup.

This latest freakshow sort of combat sport outing comes off the back of a notable influx of these types of fights over the course of the last year, which also includes a slew of one-on-two, or intergender mixed martial arts fights and boxing affairs held under the banners of Polish and Russian-based promotions.
