The idea of YouTube star Logan Paul fighting in the UFC has been circling MMA news for a few weeks.

Paul sold a reported 800,000 buys for his YouTube pay-per-view (PPV) bout against rapper KSI last month. The bout was a draw. It also got Paul some big-time coverage when UFC names like Sage ‘Northbutt’ started paying attention to him. Northcutt’s Team Alpha Male trainer Urijah Faber also weighed in on the situation.

Paul’s situation and possible UFC debut were compared to that of former WWE wrestler CM Punk. We know how that experiment ended up.

One man with much more say in the matter also weighed in, however. UFC President Dana White recently said his piece regarding Paul fighting in the UFC. In his eyes, credit goes to Paul for getting the PPV sales he did. Fighting in the UFC is another matter altogether:

“That guy would get murdered here,” White said. “He would get hurt badly. If I ever let him fight in the UFC, I should be arrested.

“No hate for the kid. He’s built a great business for himself, great for him, it’s awesome. But trust me, don’t play around here. You will get hurt.”

The YouTube star caught wind of White’s words soon thereafter. Paul reacted on social media by claiming White wasn’t really in it for the safety of the fighters when Punk’s name came up again:

White has drawn a vast amount of critics for his ruthless style that seemingly pays no mind to fighters’ well-being. The polarizing executive has been raked over the coals over and over again for supposedly always booking the fight that makes the most money rather than the most sense.

CM Punk Redone?

Paul was a high school wrestler and has some semblance of boxing experience. That’s hardly the resume of a UFC-level fighter, however. Maybe the UFC has learned their lesson after Punk put on two grossly uninspiring performances in the octagon.

White praised Punk’s dedication and guile to put his reputation on the line via MMAJunkie:

“Everybody always talks about CM Punk. CM Punk is one of the greatest guys you could ever meet,” White said. “He’s a super good guy, he’s very passionate about the sport, and he put his reputation and everything on the line to come fight here, and I respect him for it. Obviously it didn’t work out for him, but he’s got a lot of heart and a lot of balls to do that.”

That could seem somewhat contradictory based on what White said about Paul’s chances in the UFC. Perhaps he’s just done with these kinds of freak shows for now. For White to pass on an easy opportunity to make big money, he’d have to be.

Either way, it seems Paul won’t be making his octagon debut anytime soon.

If anyone is foolish enough to try to heckle MMA stars, then they’d best prepare themselves to be on the receiving end of a verbal beatdown – if not worse.

The trash-talkers in this article discovered the hard way!

Chael Sonnen vs. Regional Fighter

At a Q&A session during the UFC Fan Expo in 2013, Chael Sonnen found himself coming under fire from a regional fighter called Bill Smallwood, who apparently had a chip on his shoulder.

“I’m trying to figure out why people are asking your opinion when you haven’t had your hand raised in two years?” Smallwood said after queuing up to ask Sonnen a question.

As Smallwood continued to ramble on about ‘real talk,’ the state of Oklahoma, and fighters from that area who deserved a title shot more than him, Sonnen finally lost his patience and began to fire back with both barrels.

“Spit it out brother, you’re putting everybody to sleep, man, and I’m about to come over there and whip your *** in a second just to give people something to look at!” Sonnen bellowed at him.

“Here’s real talk dummy. If you don’t get to the end of the line, I’m going to come down there and warm up on you before I talk care of LeBron [James] later tonight, so take those stupid sunglasses off your head, because we’re in a dark room, dummy!”

Smallwood was running out of material fast but kept going anyway.

“I sell *** whoopings, son, not memberships,” he retorted.

“You don’t sell anything, stupid,” Sonnen informed him. “You sell ***-whippings? What is your name again? Who are you?”

Smallwood didn’t respond to that, perhaps because no one had a clue who he was, and the reality was that he only had a 2-3 record in MMA at the time (a record that several years later now stands at just 4-7).

“Tell my room of fans what real talk means,” Sonnen mocked him to cheers and applause from the crowd. “Beat it!”

Colby Covington Fires Back At CM Punk Over Recent Comments

Covington took issues with what Punk had to say.

Colby Covington fires back at CM Punk over his most recent comments made by the former WWE Champion and UFC welterweight star during a recent media appearance.

The former WWE superstar made some headlines this week while being interviewed by Ariel Helwani to talk about various topics including the fact that he feels that Covington is appealing to the lowest common denominator regarding his support of President Donald Trump and believes that Covington is nothing more than a racist. It’s well known that he even visited Trump in the White House.

“I get what Colby (Covington) is doing, but it’s racist. Anything to do with racism is bullshit. Colby is targeting the lowest common denominator but it’s not clever,” said Punk on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show.

Punk lost in his MMA debut against Mickey Gall at UFC 203 in September of 2016 by first round submission. Despite not having a ton of experience, UFC President White gave the former WWE champion another shot at fighting inside of the Octagon.

As seen in the opening bout of the main card for the UFC 225 pay-per-view event at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, fellow welterweight Mike Jackson was able to beat Punk by unanimous decision.

Covington responded to the comments made by Punk when speaking to Fightful.com’s James Lynch.

“This is coming from a guy who stole all his moves from KENTA. He’s a fake ************, you can’t believe a thing that comes out of his mouth. I didn’t hear those remarks. I don’t pay attention to someone who is irrelevant to MMA. Don’t use my name to get notoriety and clout in the MMA world because you’re a joke. You’re 0-2 in the UFC against two bums they had to bring in. CM Punk should stick to his little bullshit, and leave the prime time to me,” Covington said.

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is expected to make his next title defense against Covington at an event that has yet to be officially announced that could go down later this year or early 2019.
