Rafael Dos Anjos calls out former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor for a fight.

There is some history between these two fighters. Dos Anjos and McGregor were supposed to fight back at UFC 196 in a lightweight bout. However, “RDA” had to pull out of the fight with a foot injury on short notice.

This led to Nate Diaz stepping up to the plate and fighting McGregor at the event on just eight days notice. McGregor would end up losing that fight when he was choked out.

Also, it would lead to Eddie Alvarez getting the title from Dos Anjos and McGregor later beat him for the strap at UFC 205.

The former lightweight champion made it known that he is willing to fight McGregor at any weight class. He issued the following challenge to Conor with this post on his official Twitter account:

“We have unfinished business, we got close to get it done twice. You pick the weightclass #RDA #Brasil #JesusFirst.”

While many fighters and fans showed their respect for Conor McGregor following his performance against all-time boxing great Floyd Mayweather, not everyone was so complimentary.

Former foe Jose Aldo and a foe who was once scheduled to fight McGregor in Rafael Dos Anjos quickly took to Twitter following McGregor’s tenth round TKO loss to express some serious shadenfreud.

McGregor famously knocked out then-featherweight champ Jose Aldo in 13 seconds back at UFC 194. After earning that belt, the Irishman set his sights on winning the lightweight title, which was then in possession of Dos Anjos.

Dos Anjos was forced to pull out of the McGregor fight after breaking his foot in training camp.

Since then, both Aldo and Dos Anjos have struggled to regain their former glory. Aldo was TKO’d by current 145 pound champion Max Holloway, while Dos Anjos ended up losing his belt by first round knockout to Eddie Alvarez, who in turn lost that belt to McGregor at UFC 205.

Dos Anjos lost his next fight to Tony Ferguson, and eventually moved up to welterweight where he finally got back on track with a decision over Tarec Saffiedine.

No word yet on what McGregor’s next move is or who he will fight, however Dana White was adamant about him competing in MMA after his brief foray into boxing.

How do you feel about Aldo and Dos Anjos’ tweets? Is it just jealousy or are they honestly angling for (another) fight with the Notorious One?

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor is in unfamiliar territory in terms of weight at UFC 196, but he has his eyes on Robbie Lawler’s prize….

From salads to steaks has been the story of Conor McGregor’s trip to 170 pounds, where he finds himself facing a new opponent in the form of Nate Diaz at UFC 196. The original headline bout was set between ‘The Notorious’ and Rafael dos Anjos for the Brazilian’s lightweight championship, but the fight got scrapped when RDA suffered a broken foot in training. Diaz was sewn in to the card on 12 days notice, in a situation that echoes the run up to UFC 189 featuring Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes.

So the pairing of the Stockton bad boy and the Irish fan favorite seems to be a match made in heaven, but the fight carries some serious risks for both men. For starters, Diaz being in on short notice had raised questions about his fitness, but the recent images of the younger Diaz bro training for a marathon brought back the legitimacy of this fight to an agreeable level.

Obviously it will take a lot more than being in shape for a fight against ‘The Notorious’ to be a successful one, but a performance like Diaz pulled off against top contender Michael Johnson would be a good starting point. We know the gameplan in the striking with Diaz, it’s stay on the outside but not give enough opportunity for McGregor to get a rhythm. Whether Diaz is able to implement that is another story. As far as the ground game goes, getting this one to the mat ASAP might be a better road to victory for Nate.

We’ve talked a lot about what’s next for McGregor after this fight, and he was asked that very question after his UFC 196 open workout last night (Wednesday March 2, 2016) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Former UFC Fighter: Conor McGregor F***s Up Robbie Lawler

In less than two weeks, surging UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor will attempt to become the first simultaneous two-wight belt holder when he squares off with similarly dominant lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos in the main event of March 5’s UFC 196 from Las Vegas, Nevada.

And while that may seem like a momentous challenge in and of itself, ‘The Notorious’ has actually set his sights on the next weight class up without even defending his featherweight belt or winning the lightweight strap, constantly aiming for a shot at a third UFC championship against welterweight king Robbie Lawler if and when he gets past ‘RDA.’

It would seem that McGregor is setting himself to be destroyed by the resurgent former Strikeforce middleweight champion ‘Ruthless,’ who has defeated Carlos Condit, Rory MacDonald, Johny Hendricks, and Matt Brown in his last four fights to sit alone atop the coveted and illustrious 170-pound throne. However, the two actually match up physically al ot closer than you might think, as Lawler is 5’11” with a 74-in. reach while McGregor is 5’9″ with the exact 74-in. reach.

Fighting Lawler for the belt would be a challenge that’s simply too good to pass up, especially at the promotion’s blockbuster UFC 200 card on July 9. Many will most likely be picking ‘Ruthless’ if it does happen, but there’s at least one former fighter who thinks McGregor would handle Lawler rather easily.

During a recent discussion with Joe Rogan, former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub, who fell out of favor in large due to his controversial comments about the UFC’s uniform sponsorship deal with Reebok, spoke up with the stance that McGregor would “f*** Lawler up” because he couldn’t touch McGregor:

“I’m gonna say something crazy, Joe. Are you ready for this? I think the toughest match-up possible for McGregor in the UFC is Dos Anjos. I think the easier fight for him is Robbie Lawler. Robbie’s not gonna touch him. Not a chance. I think he f**ks Robbie up, and I love Robbie! Style wise he f**ks Robbie up.”

Those are quite the bold words from Schaub, who, since his unceremonious exit from the UFC, has not been shy about spouting off with outspoken statements surrounding topics from his relationship with Ronda Rousey to all things McGregor.

Yet he was more in line with the school of thought that McGregor was actually scared of jose Aldo heading into their awaited showdown at last year’s UFC 194, so now it appears that he’s jumped aboard the ‘Notorious’ hype train after he shockingly knocked Aldo out in 13 seconds.

There’s no denying that McGregor has taken the UFC and MMA as a whole by storm like no other athlete ever has, and he truly might make history if he finishes an extremely difficult in dos Anjos at UFC 196. However, without a title defense and work still to be done at both featherweight and lightweight, predicting that he would destroy a steamrolling champion like Lawler with ease might be a sensational and outlandish statement at this point.

what do you think? Do you agree with Schaub’s assessment that McGregor would become a three-weight class champion with ease?

Rafael dos Anjos: I’ll Smash Conor McGregor In K-1 Rules Fight

For those that thought Rafael dos Anjos would look for the takedown right away at UFC 196, think again. Lessons learned from Jose Aldo?

UFC 196 stands to be the biggest event of 2016 so far with it’s star studded line up, and could potentially outshine any further PPV (pay-per-view) shows for the rest of the year. As well as the first title defense of women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm against Miesha Tate, UFC 196 houses a lightweight title fight for the ages. Rafael dos Anjos will look to take out the visiting featherweight champion Conor McGregor in the main event.

As is typical for any fight featuring McGregor, the trash talk has been frequent and controversial. Kicking the action off at the recent UFC 196 presser, ‘The Notorious’ angered dos Anjos’ team mate Fabricio Werdum with his slanderous comments. Accusing the lightweight champ of betraying his home nation of Brazil, McGregor declared he’d behead RDA come March 5.

McGregor RDA

There was a bizarre and hilarious reaction by Fabricio Werdum to McGregor’s awards show rant yesterday, and now dos Anjos has been doing some talking for himself. Check out what he told The MMA Hour h/t MMAMania:

“This guy thinks because he dresses in expensive clothes and he drives nice cars that he has class, but he is classless. He has no class, he’s a lowlife. I can’t wait to go there. I’m not taking it personal, he’s an actor who is acting. Once I go there, I’m a straight guy, I don’t talk, I do. I’m going to go there and send him back home and to his division. He is going to have nightmares with the lightweight division for the rest of his life.”

RDA is not really known for his brash attitude, but it seems he has a severe disliking for McGregor. The subject then turned to how the fight will play out, as many believe the Irishman is the ‘superior’ striker:

rda

“I don’t agree. I think I can beat this guy anywhere. If I fight a jiu-jitsu match with him I will beat him. If I fight a karate match with him, I will beat him. If I fight K-1 rules I will beat him. I think I can beat him anywhere. I am going to do my job, I am going to do what I’ve always done. I’m going to break him standing, he’s going to feel very bad after I hit him hard several times. And if I want, I will take him down and smash him a bit on the ground. I am not going into this fight saying I’m not going to stand with Conor because I don’t think he brings anything different to me. I’m a better fighter everywhere than him.”

Easy money?

Outspoken UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor does it again, this time it’s Rafael dos Anjos he leaves speechless with some very heavy insults…

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor is not known for mincing his words. His outspoken swagger outside the octagon has made his every move a media frenzy, and his performances inside the arena of combat speak for themselves. Whether you love or hate him, you have to admit ‘The Notorious’ keeps the spotlight firmly fixed on the world of mixed martial arts.

But is it for the better? In terms of pay-per-view buys for the UFC events he headlines, most certainly yes. There is a clear division between McGregor and his last opponent Jose Aldo, and it’s one that’s present with is upcoming foe Rafael dos Anjos, and that’s the element of showmanship. Aldo has never been known for the theatrics, and neither has the current lightweight champion ‘RDA,’ who faces McGregor on March 5 at UFC 197.

Rafael-dos-Anjos-vs-Conor-McGregor[1]

As we remember from the infamous Go Big presser, McGregor will take any opportunity to jack an entire media event and make it his own. The same was true of the UFC 197 press conference that went down yesterday, and once again ‘The Notorious’ one was on prime form. This time he actually paid respect to ‘Scarface,’ while simultaneously destroying dos Anjos’ reputation with the help of only a microphone.

But has the Irish sensation gone too far this time?
