Francis Ngannou backed by Conor McGregor in Tyson Fury fight I'm happy for him

Ahead of his boxing debut against WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury in October, former UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou has received the backing of former two-weight gold holder, Conor McGregor – who admitted he is “happy” for the Cameroonian veteran.

Slated to make a professional boxing debut later this year, Ngannou, a recent acquisition of the PFL (Professional Fighters League) following his departure from the UFC back in January of this year, is booked to fight Morecambe native, Fury over the course of 10 rounds on October 28. in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Yet to compete since he headlined UFC 270 back in January of last year in Anaheim, California, Francis Ngannou managed to successfully unify the heavyweight crowns against then-interim gold holder, Ciryl Gane, defeating the Frenchman with a unanimous decision win.

And according to the aforenoted, McGregor – who initially backed the UFC in their negotiation fallout with the Batié native, claimed he was not “happy” for the former heavyweight champion after striking a reportedly lucrative boxing outing with champion, Fury.

“I’m interested, let’s see how it goes,” Conor McGregor said of a Francis Ngannou and Tyson Fury fight during an interview with Adam Glyn. “I’ve not heard much about it but I’m happy for Ngannou, fair play to him. What weight is Tyson? Is he in shape? Anything can happen in there, so I wish them both well and I’m excited to see it.”

Furthermore, off the back of the booking of a bout between Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou, former UFC middleweight and light heavyweight championship challenger, Chael Sonnen criticized the boxing world champion for taking on the veteran, labelling him a “scumbag” and a “bully”.a

“What kind of a scumbag is (Tyson) Fury, though, man?” Sonnen explained. “I really gotta tell you, Fury broke my heart. I liked this guy, and I liked the entertainment. I like so many things about him. You take a guy like Fury, who God made huge, gave great coaches, great training partners, great experiences, too. He has weapons and tools that other men can’t deal with if they’re not armed.”

“And he’s going to choose to use those to beat up a guy who’s at least 37 with no experience and is on one leg. That’s a bully, and it’s a scumbag. I would never do that to somebody. Jesse James made a lot of money, and there’s hitmen that made a lot of money. I mean, there’s things that you can do, but you own it. You’re a bully, and you’re a scumbag.”

Chael Sonnen rips Tyson Fury for fighting Francis Ngannou he's a scumbag and a bully

Former UFC middleweight and light heavyweight title challenger, Chael Sonnen has hit out at current WBC heavyweight kingpin, Tyson Fury, labelling the Morecambe native a “bully” and “scumbag” for booking an October 28. boxing match against former UFC heavyweight kingpin, Francis Ngannou.

Slated to make his in-ring return on October 28. in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – taking on recent PFL signing and former UFC heavyweight champion, Ngannou, British heavyweight striker, Fury is slated to take on the Cameroonian veteran over the course of 10 rounds in a bout which is set to feature on both punchers professional records.

Sidelined since he headlined a December event against three-time foe, Derek Chisora last year, the unbeaten, Tyson Fury landed an eventual tenth round standing TKO over the WBC heavyweight title challenger.

Chael Sonnen blasts criticizm toward Tyson Fury

Skirting a potential fight with Ukrainian world champion, Oleksandr Usyk amid continued negotiations over the course of the year, Tyson Fury has been labelled a “scumbag” by veteran analyst, Sonnen, for booking a bout with Batié knockout ace, Ngannou.

“It’s the most ridiculous sporting competition of our lifetime,” Chael Sonnen told The Schmo during a recent interview. “Let me give you an example. Take the Lakers and the real Lakers right back when they had the guy named Shaq and Kobe Bryant: rest his soul. I don’t know if LeBron was ever on that team. But remember when they were really good? And you got Phil Jackson as a coach; take them and go put them against Brady and The Patriots. Right? You got these great teams, but you’re gonna go do it under football rules. Do you see how stupid it is? Do you see why it’s never happened? You see why it’s never even been discussed? That’s what’s happening here.”

Francis Ngannou manager claims Jon Jones clash still possible we want to make that fight

Marquel Martin, the representative of former undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou, claims that a bout between his client and current division kingpin, Jon Jones is still a possibility in the future – maintaining that the Cameroonian’s camp still want to make the bout a reality.

Ngannou, a former undisputed heavyweight champion under the banner of the UFC, has been sidelined from competition since he headling UFC 270 back in January of last year, unifying the divisional crowns in a unanimous decision win over then-interim gold holder, Ciryl Gane.

And departing the UFC back in January of this year, Francis Ngannou was stripped of his heavyweight championship by the organization, having completed his contractual obligations back in December of last year.

Returning to the Octagon himself following a three-year-plus hiatus from mixed martial arts competition, Jones, a former two-time light heavyweight titleholder, clinched vacant gold in Nganou’s absence, himself submitting the aforenoted, Gane with a first round guillotine choke.

Francis Ngannou’s manager addresses a future clash with Jon Jones

And while a bout between Ngannou and Jones have failed to materialize despite both sharing time under the UFC banner during their respective stints, the above-mentioned, Ngannou claims the Batié native is still interested in a future pairing.

“I think it’s still a possibility,” Martin told MMA Fighting of a future fight between Francis Ngannou and Jon Jones. I know sometimes, maybe, cooler heads prevail. I’m hoping Dana (White) somehow sees this. Like, we want to make that fight. Like, lets do that fight. The world deserves and wants to see that fight. Again, he’s (White) one of the greatest promoters out there. We are not the ones saying no to that fight. Just know that.”

“These conversations are not new,” Martin explained. “They are two years at least in terms of talking to the UFC about making this fight happen. After Stipe (Miocic), it was supposed to be Jon Jones [versus Francis Ngannou]. I tweeted something long ago – I literally wrote it down: I said, Stipe, (then we’re) gonna take care of Jon Jones, then we’re gonna go for Tyson Fury – in that order. But, they (the UFC) had their own plans and their own strategy and for whatever reason, they didn’t want to make it happen.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com)

As for the aforenoted WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, Ngannou is officially slated to take on the Morecambe native in a professional boxing debut on October 28. in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – over the course of 10 rounds.

Francis Ngannou

Francis Ngannou managed to prove all of his doubters, including UFC president Dana White, wrong with two blockbuster announcements in as many months.

Parting with the Las Vegas-based promotion in January, ‘The Predator’ sat by as the MMA world continued on without him. As weeks became months, fans and fighters started doubting whether Francis Ngannou could actually bag the big-money contract he had been seeking. Maybe he made a mistake turning down the UFC’s $8 million offer. As it turns out, Ngannou was right, and the doubters were dead wrong.

In May, Francis Ngannou announced that he had signed a groundbreaking deal with the Professional Fighters League, scoring a massive bag of money for himself and his future opponents. Not only that, ‘The Predator’ landed himself a seat at the table, heading up the promotion’s expansion into Africa. It was a stunning turn of events, but the Cameroonian was far from done. Earlier this week, news broke that Ngannou would make his professional boxing debut before stepping into the PFL Smart Cage. His opponent? None other than WBC heavyweight world champion, Tyson Fury.

“For some reason, I always prove Dana White wrong — even when he’s on my side,” Ngannou told SiriusXM. “I always prove him wrong, every single time. This is just our story.”

Francis Ngannou Questions Why Fight with Tyson Fury Couldn’t Happen Under UFC Banner

Francis Ngannou’s fight with Tyson Fury comes shortly after the UFC began cultivating a rivalry between ‘The Gypsy King’ and reigning UFC heavyweight champion Jon ‘Bones’ Jones. Fury and Jones had gone back and forth in recent months on social media over who the baddest man on the planet truly is. Dana White was more than open to making the fight happen and Fury even revealed that the promotion had made him an offer to compete in a hybrid-rules bout against Jones.

Ngannou was quick to question why the UFC was so eager to book Fury vs. Jones but didn’t offer up the same energy when ‘The Predator’ was pursuing a fight with Fury before exiting the organization in January.

“They were ready to do Jon Jones and Tyson Fury in MMA — why couldn’t they do Ngannou and Fury in boxing? I don’t know,” Ngannou said. “I think [he] did that to try to take the fight away from me, and Dana did sent out a contract [for the Jones fight]. He sent out the contract, which I think was very embarrassing because that contract was rejected, and he signed mine for the GIMIK Fight Promotions.”

Prior to his signing with the PFL, fans and fighters alike were doubting Ngannou’s negotiating tactics, suggesting the heavyweight star may be reaching too far and had priced himself out of the business.

“It’s not a secret that so many people wanted me to fail,” Ngannou said. “They don’t want me to succeed, it’s not a secret, it’s quite obvious, and you all know about it” (h/t MMA Fighting).

Set for a combat sports return inside the squared circle in October, Ngannou, as per his representative, Marquel Martin, is in line for a lucrative payday in his professional boxing debut against the outspoken, Fury.

“Let’s just say this: The bag is so big, he (Francis Ngannou) may actually just drop it on the way to the bank,” Martin told MMA Fighting. “Let’s just say that. I don’t know what the haters are trying to say right now, I kind of just blocked it out, but they’ll be proven wrong again. This is life-changing. This is exactly what we planned and visualized, so, we’re happy.” (Transcribed by Bloody Elbow)
