Khamzat Chimaev Nate Diaz Colby Covington

Two of MMA’s biggest superstars are feuding and in the latest verbal conflict, Khamzat Chimaev has fired back after Nate Diaz took to Twitter with claims that ‘Borz’ wasn’t a real fighter, as Chimaev was taking too long to fight him.

“I been trying to fight for a year and months now,” Nate Diaz said on Twitter. “I also tried to fight Khamzat for the last month and a half but he was hurt, had visa issues, overweight and now his b*tcha** is off getting married instead of fighting wtf? I’m tryin to get a fight wit a real fighter asap/July.”

In another tweet, Diaz would also say: “UFC Wass good wit a fight in July is the whole roster scared or what?”

Khamzat Chimaev Responds to Nate Diaz, Shows Interest in Colby Covington Fight

Not afraid to respond, Khamzat Chimaev made sure to let his thoughts be known, firing back at Nate Diaz.

“You are funny, are you high? It seems like you’ve been smoking,” the Chechen-born Swede would respond.

Soon after this reply to Diaz, ‘Borz’ would set his sights on a different foe, Colby Covington. Rumors of the two supposedly fighting have been floating around the MMA world for a month or so now, but it’s looking like things are starting to heat up.

According to Chimaev, Diaz has turned down the opportunity to fight him at least 10 times. A fight against Covington could be exactly what ‘Borz’ needs to separate himself from the pack, and finally earn a shot at the champion Kamaru Usman‘s welterweight supremacy.

Khamzat Chimaev (11-0, 5-0 UFC) made an impact as soon as he entered the UFC. Setting modern-day records for his activity when he fought three times in a little over a month’s time. With his closest fights coming within a mere 10 days of each other.

His latest fight against Gilbert Burns was the most human we’ve seen ‘Borz’ look inside the octagon, as typically so far he had demolished his competition; barely taking a punch in the process.

The Burns fight was a war and received high praise for its intensity. Now, Chimaev seems very eager to get back into the cage and do some damage.

Who would you like to see ‘Borz’ fight next, and what are your thoughts on his beef with Nate Diaz?

Conor McGregor

Former UFC double champ Conor McGregor has announced that he still has his sights on competing in boxing once again, after he has returned to the UFC.

McGregor is currently still in recovery from a leg injury he suffered in his trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. The Irishman has competed in boxing before, with his iconic bout against Floyd Mayweather being one of the highest-selling boxing PPV’s of all time.

In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Conor McGregor stated that:

“Boxing is my first love in combat sports. I had such a great time the last time I was out there. Obviously, my return will be in the octagon for UFC – that story is far from over, in fact it’s just being written, it is just the beginning.”

“But, boxing, for sure I will grace the squared circle again in the future.”

Conor McGregor Gives Fitness Update

Conor McGregor also gave an update on how his recovery was going. There has been speculation that the former champ won’t be back until 2023, but McGregor seemed optimistic in his assessment of things. He stated that:

“The body is doing good. We are going to up the training bit by bit. I have another CT scan in the coming days and then I will be clear to kick.”

“Once I can kick and grapple, I will be back in no time. Boxing training is going well, strength training. I am excited to get back.”

A number of fighters have been touted as potential return opponents for the ‘Notorious’ Irishman, with the likes of Jorge Masvidal, Tony Ferguson, and Nate Diaz all in the mix. It remains to be seen whether McGregor will attempt to regain his lightweight title, or begin a run at the 170lb belt.

Former UFC light-heavyweight champion, Tito Ortiz says he will fight one more time before the end of the year.

Now 47-years old, and 10 years removed from his last fight in the UFC, Tito Ortiz ‘guarantees’ he will make a return to the cage before the year is done. Talking to ‘The Schmo’, ‘The Huntington Beach Bad Boy’ says his career is not over and revealed he is already in discussions with MMA promotions.

“It’s just preparation, Ortiz began. ‘It’s getting in the gym, continuing in the gym and putting in the work. You can’t have a month camp and try to fight in your 40s, you gotta prepare for the six months, seven months. Its mentality, how young you think you are, myself I’m 47 right now, I won’t be 48 until next year. I feel good, I feel strong.”

“I just started training this week,” Ortiz continued. “I’ll fight one more time this year, before the year is over, I want not to go out the way I did against Anderson [Silva].”

Tito Ortiz Vs. Anderson Silva

We last saw Ortiz compete in a boxing match against former UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva, as part of Triller’s Holyfield Vs. Belfort event. The American would be brutally knocked out by Silva after an unimpressive performance in just the first round.

This time though, Ortiz says he will be returning to his roots and will make his return to the cage for a MMA contest.

“It’ll be an MMA fight, like I say I just started preparing this week, ill be getting ready here for the next four months, we’ll see maybe September, October another Tito Ortiz in the Cage.”

We last saw Ortiz compete in an MMA fight in 2019 against fighter-turned professional wrestler, Alberto Rodriguez, better known as Alberto Del Rio. The UFC pioneer would submit Rodriguez to earn himself a first-round finish.

Holly Holm

Former women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate has reacted to Holly Holm’s controversial split decision loss to Ketlen Viera in the main event of UFC Vegas 55.

Tate, who is also coming off a loss to Viera, took to Twitter to give her thoughts on the fight. ‘Cupcake’ stated that her fellow former champ utilized the wrong gameplan against Viera, in a similar manner to how Tate herself lost to the Brazilian contender.

“Not a good game plan by @HollyHolm,” Tate states. “I can say it bc I’ve made the mistake before too. she shoulda stayed on the outside & forced Ketlen to be the aggressor. Holly’s an excellent counter striker, she tired herself out by engaging in the clinch too much. Ketlen makes it look easy.”

Where does Holly Holm go from here?

Now at the age of 40, it may be that Holm does not get the chance to fight for the UFC title again after this loss. There are several options for her in the 135lb division, such as a rematch with Germaine de Randamie or a bout with Aspen Ladd. However, it is always worth noting that Holly Holm is a multi-sport athlete.

‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ already had an extensive boxing and kickboxing career prior to signing for the UFC in 2015. Having achieved such success in MMA, there is a chance that Holm now returns to her roots. In particular, there are rumblings of a potential boxing match with Irish Superstar Kaite Taylor, who recently made history by defeating Amanda Serrano in the first women’s boxing match to headline in Madison Square Garden.

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn recently told TalkSport that there were three opponents being considered for Taylor’s next fight, one of which was indeed Holm.

“There’s three fights,” said Hearn. “There’s Holly Holm, there’s Cyborg and there’s Amanda Serrano.”

Rafael dos Anjos labels Islam Makhachev A ‘P****’, As He Sets His Sights On A Fight With Charles Oliveira.

Rafael dos Anjos

The former UFC Lightweight Champion, Rafael dos Anjos (31-13 MMA) has recently withdrawn his interest to fight the No. 4 ranked lightweight contender, Islam Makhachev (22-1 MMA).

The pair have nearly been scheduled to fight in the octagon on multiple occasions before the idea was shelved for the time being by the UFC. The closest the fighters have come to making a date official was at UFC 272 in March after Rafael Fiziev – Dos Anjos’s opponent -was forced out of the bout after testing positive for COVID.

Whist the process of finding a replacement went on, Makhachev offered to fill in and take the fight via his social media. However, there was no physical agreement made, and UFC lightweight veteran, Renato Moicano (16-5-1 MMA) was put forward as the official replacement for the fight.

The 37-year-old is now focused again on his original UFC 272 opponent, Rafael Fiziev.

Their bout has now been rescheduled for July 9th and Rafael dos Anjos has also had the time to choose the right words he wanted to use to describe Makhachev on his social media.

“Islam is a p****,” dos Anjos told MMA Fighting. “I took the fight. Straight up, he’s a p****. I took the fight, he took the fight. I went to bed, [I] thought I’m going to fight him, and then in the morning he tried to say otherwise. I’m glad Dana White came over and said the truth.”

“He’s trying to play cool and he’s trying to play, ‘I’m going to take the fight’, Dos Anjos continued. “He said 170, I said 165, and they kept [saying] 170. I was 170 when I was speaking to the UFC at the time. I said, ‘I’ll take this fight against Islam at 170, I just want to fight. I haven’t fought in so long, I had a hard training camp, I want to fight anybody.’ Then in the morning, the deal fell out on his side.”

Rafael dos Anjos eyes up a potential title shot by the end of 2022

Rafael dos Anjos’s issue with Makhachev wasn’t that the 30-year-old didn’t take the fight on short notice, but rather that Islam Makhachev volunteered to replace Fiziev only to turn away from the opportunity when the UFC offered him the bout at 170ib.

Ever since returning to the Lightweight division, Dos Anjos has had ambitions of reclaiming his Lightweight gold, although he admits ‘the division is crazy,’ he states that he sees a scenario in which he and another certain native Brazilian go head-to-head in Brazil later this year.

“I heard the UFC is going to do a big show in Brazil in December, and why not Brazil vs. Brazil? Once I get past Fiziev, me against Charles would be a great fight.” (Transcribed by MMAFighting.com)

Khabib Nurmagomedov Still Confident In Booking Junior dos Santos vs. Fedor Emelianenko Despite JDS Shoulder Injury

Khabib

Despite Junior dos Santos’ loss to Yorgan De Castro at Eagle FC 47: Redemption, Khabib Nurmagomedov has stated he is still interested in booking a cross-promotional fight between ‘Cigano’ and MMA legend, Fedor Emelianenko.

JDS initially had great success against De Castro in their main event fight. However, in round three, dos Santos dislocated his arm after throwing a punch, resulting in a doctor’s stoppage TKO victory for ‘The Mad Titan.’

Prior to the fight, Khabib Nurmagomedov had stated that if dos Santos won, he would be booked in a cross-promotional fight with Fedor Emelianenko, who is currently signed with Bellator MMA. If De Castro won, he would be granted a shot at the Eagle FC heavyweight title, currently held by Rizvan Kuniev.

However, it now seems that both men will receive the fight they were initially promised. In the aftermath of the fight, Khabib had the following to say on the topic of Junior dos Santos’ next fight for Eagle FC:

“I’m not a doctor, but I see a lot of injuries inside the gym like this with shoulders, with knees. I think after three or four months, he can come back to sparring, and at the end of the year we can make this fight. Next week I’m going to sit with Scott Coker and we’re going to discuss about this fight.”

He went on to state that:

“Junior was looking amazing. [For a] long time, I didn’t see [him look like] how he looked like tonight. He was looking very good. I think it was maybe his best shape in the last couple years, maybe five, six years. But it is what it is, you know? This is a very tough sport. You can’t even blink in this sport when you’re inside the cage, because I know how it is being inside the cage, standing with someone [who’s] a professional athlete in front of you. It’s very dangerous and you have to stay focused every single second.” (H/T MMA Fighting).

Khabib Nurmagomedov on the future of Yorgan De Castro at Eagle FC

Khabib Nurmagomedov also reiterated his comments in the buildup to the fight that if Yorgan De Castro would be victorious, he would be granted a shot at the title.

“He was looking good too,” Nurmagomedov said. “De Castro showed his heart. He’s mentally a very strong fighter today, and he won. It’s a question of how, but he won. And I think maybe it’s going to be a good matchup, De Castro vs. Rizvan Kuniev, fight for the title, and we work on this Junior vs. Fedor [for the] end of this year.”
