Fresh off the heels of a somewhat shocking second round submission victory over Conor McGregor earlier this month, long-time veteran Nate Diaz has never been in a better position.

Taking the bout with McGregor on just 11 days notice, Diaz, although eating some damage in the first round, appeared to have outworked and simply outclassed the brash Irish champion.

According to Diaz, the “Notorious” one was on his way to getting knocked out had he not shot in for a takedown:

“[The fight with] Conor — that was on the way to being a knockout,” he told Rolling Stone.

“He was getting handed some solid (expletive). He got on me for the takedown because he was done.”

As for what lies ahead for the younger Diaz brother, reports had actually surfaced late last week implying that both he and McGregor had verbally agreed to rematch at July 9’s UFC 200 despite the clear cut finish in the first bout.

To Diaz, the idea of a rematch seems “funny”, especially given the fact that Jose Aldo has not yet been awarded his second shot at McGregor after losing his title to the Irishman in just 13-seconds last December:

“I lost plenty of decisions and I’ve never got a rematch, to this day,” he said.

“So, that’s crazy. Conor got worked over and now they’re saying, ‘rematch,’ which makes sense. I understand that. I just think it’s funny because, it’s like, Jose Aldo didn’t get a rematch.”

At the end of the day, Diaz has always lobbied for the “big” fights, or the money fights so to say, and a rematch with McGregor would obviously draw in millions of eyes. The magnitude of a possible second go with the “Notorious” one hasn’t kept the thought of a potential title fight away from Diaz, however:

“I would like to fight the lightweight title,” he said.

If you’re Diaz, are you agreeing to a rematch with McGregor, or searching for a second shot at 155-pound gold?

Joe Rogan: Frankie Edgar Is The Bigger Fight For Conor McGregor

After suffering a disappointing loss in a welterweight clash with Nate Diaz at March 5’s UFC 196, featherweight champion Conor McGregor is expected to drop back down to 145-pounds to defend his title at July’s UFC 200. After suffering a disappointing loss in a welterweight clash with Nate Diaz at March 5’s UFC 196, featherweight champion Conor McGregor is expected to drop back down to 145-pounds to defend his title at July’s UFC 200.

While his opponent has yet to be announced, the two front runners appear to be former divisional kingpin Jose Aldo, who McGregor knocked out in just 13-seconds last December, and surging former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar.

According to UFC color commentator Joe Rogan, Edgar would definitely be the biggest fight for the outspoken featherweight champ at this point. Rogan also suggested that Aldo build himself back up after such a devastating defeat:

“Frankie Edgar is a way easier sell,” Rogan said Tuesday on his podcast The Joe Rogan Experience. “Maybe if Aldo comes back and wins in spectacular fashion, like if he and Cub Swanson have a rematch. Because Swanson-Aldo went the same way Aldo and McGregor went. Aldo hits him with a flying knee two seconds into the fight cracks him. Aldo has to win again. You could sell [Aldo-McGregor II], but you wouldn’t sell it for as much as if Aldo won.”

Many have deemed “The Answer” to be McGregor’s toughest challenge given the fact that Edgar possesses an endless gas tank, and a decorated wrestling background, which has appeared to be the Irishman’s weakness.

Rogan agrees with the masses, albeit noting McGregor’s unparalleled knockout ability:

“Frankie Edgar is a 48-hour storm,” said Rogan. “You better have everything strapped down. He’s not going to get tired and he’s going to keep coming at you. He can wrestle his ass off. His footwork is sensational. I think Conor can knock out anybody, but you know what? So can Cub Swanson and he didn’t connect on Frankie. Frankie just wolverine’d him.

“Look at the Chad Mendes fight. Conor had a knee injury coming into it but Chad took him down at will. When Frankie gets you tired… What he did to Cub Swanson was incredible. Frankie’s not a huge draw but it’s a big fight.”

Who would you rather see the “Notorious” one square off with this summer?

Five Reasons Jose Aldo Needs To Shut Up & Fight

In the three days since Nate Diaz’ shocking defeat of Conor McGregor in the main event of last Saturday night’s (March 5, 2016) UFC 196 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, former McGregor rival and longtime featherweight champion Jose Aldo has been especially vocal in both his criticism of ‘The Notorious’ and his desire for a rematch with his hated enemy.

Common sense may dictate that after the Irishman knocked him out in 13 seconds at UFC 194, he might not deserve it, but Aldo certainly has a much more convincing and complete body of work than some of the contenders who have gotten immediate championship rematches lately. Now that McGregor has suffered his first UFC loss and his aura of invincibility went up in smoke, it seems as if Aldo will get his wish at the historic UFC 200 after McGregor emerged from UFC 196 without any medical suspension and foretold of a return to featherweight.

In today’s media-driven MMA world, it’s clear to see that the squeaky wheel gets the grease, so to say (although it’s far from a set formula – just ask Frankie Edgar), but this new and more outspoken version of Aldo is just unlike the usually calm and collected silent killer that went undefeated for 10 years prior to his loss to ‘Notorious.’

And it’s a bit unbecoming of Aldo, as he’s seemingly contradicted himself at a few junctures that have ultimately left his proverbial foot in his mouth. Now, that may sound hypocritical given that McGregor skyrocketed to superstardom doing it, but as one of the most talented mixed martial arts fighters ever, Aldo simply isn’t doing himself any favors by rarely fighting, pulling out of huge fights, and constantly complaining.

Aldo has nothing left to prove, and he is undoubtedly one of the best fighters ever. Yet it’s tough not to wonder if he could have been a much, much bigger star than he is if he would have only focused on what he’s best at, which is defeating world-class opposition inside the cage. Let’s examine the five biggest reasons Aldo should keep quiet and get back to winning.

Jose Aldo Insists He’ll Have Conor McGregor Rematch At UFC 200

After shockingly surrendering his title in just 13-seconds at UFC 194 last December, former long-time featherweight champion Jose Aldo has claimed that he will not accept any other fight besides a rematch with the Conor McGregor or a shot at the title.

That opportunity was recently made available when McGregor’s scheduled UFC 196 opponent, lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos, pulled out of the bout with a broken foot.

The UFC had called Aldo and offered him the short notice fight with the “Notorious” one, but apparently “Scarface” wasn’t in fight shape.

Recently speaking on the matter, the former champion said that this isn’t a ‘cock fight’, and that with ample time to train he’d fight anyone:

“Any professional needs time to train,” Aldo told Ariel Helwani on Monday’s The MMA Hour. “It’s not a cockfight where I go there and put my rooster to fight. It’s a high-level sport, I’m going there to do my job. When I have time to train, it can happen at any time, anywhere.”

As far as what the future holds, Aldo actually said that he and the UFC have agreed on an immediate rematch between he and the Irish champion:

“I can’t speak for others, and I don’t care what they say. I know I deserve an immediate rematch,” Aldo said of those who think he should be in a non-title bout next. “People who say I don’t, I don’t care about them. The important is what the UFC thinks and what we think. We came to the conclusion that we’re having an immediate rematch.”

McGregor is slated to face off with Nate Diaz this weekend in Las Vegas, and has already confirmed that he will fight at July’s UFC 200 which seems to fit into Aldo’s schedule as well:

“I want to fight at UFC 200,” Aldo said. “It’s a historical edition, a great event. I would like to be part of it.”

Regarding predictions, the devastating knockout loss hasn’t lowered Aldo’s confidence:

“I know I will win (the belt) again,” he said.

Former long-time UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo is now nearly a month and a half removed from the first loss he has suffered in a decade.

Aldo surrendered his title at last month’s UFC 194 from Las Vegas, suffering a brutal 13 second knockout loss at the hands of reigning boss Conor McGregor.

Aldo 1

In the aftermath of such a devastating and heart breaking loss, “Scarface” has made it clear that all he’s interest in is a rematch with McGregor or a fight for the title. The former champion has even insisted that he will wait until he is given one of those two.

With McGregor moving up to challenge for the lightweight strap against Rafael dos Anjos at March 5’s UFC 196, and Frankie Edgar likely being next in line at featherweight, Aldo could end up having a lot of time on his hands.

Not only that, but UFC President Dana White doesn’t seem too interested in granting those wishes towards Aldo, a man who hasn’t always seemed to get along with his employers
