We probably shouldn’t be so surprised that Conor McGregor makes an appearance on this list, for he does seem a little bit out there at times. We’re not quite sure where to begin with his tattoos really, but he has a tiger, his last name, a gorilla with wings, which also seems to be consuming a heart of some sort – he really has gone all out on his body ink.

McGregor seems to be adding to his collection of body tattoos as well, so who knows what he may come out with next. Whatever he chooses, there is one thing we can be sure of, that it will be wacky and wonderful.

  • 2. Adrian Perez

If there was one guy that you wouldn’t want to come across on a dark evening, it would be Adrian Perez. We don’t know many guys in the UFC that have decided to tattoo such an extensive area of their own face, but this is exactly what Perez has done. Perhaps more famously, he has decided to shave his eyebrows and replace them with flame tattoos.

In addition to this, Perez has chosen to get ‘king of the cage’ tattooed across his scalp, which would seem a bit strange given his terrible record in the UFC (2-12).

  • 3. Alan Belcher

We’ve all got our own heroes in this life, for many different reasons. We may have our own favorite athlete, favorite author, or some form of philanthropist that we’ve grown to love. However, we are not too sure that there are many people out there that adore Johnny Cash, not in the way that Alan Belcher seems to adore him anyway.

Alan Belcher decided to get Johnny Cash’s face tattooed on his arm for reasons that will likely remain a mystery for average folks like us, but hey, Belcher obviously felt that this was a great tattoo to get.

Weili Zhang

Strawweight champion Weili Zhang has surprisingly moved above flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko in the latest UFC’s women’s pound-for-pound rankings update.

The first ever Chinese UFC champion made a successful first title defence against Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 248 this past weekend. Zhang earned a razor thin split decision victory in an all-time great fight in the co-main event.

According to the media members in charge of the UFC rankings system, that win was enough to make her the #2 female fighter. That’s above Ukrainian Shevchenko who sits in third and one spot below double-champ Amanda Nunes who tops the list.

This is quite the surprise considering Shevchenko has had a long reign at the top of MMA. ‘Bullet’ is the inaugural flyweight UFC champion and has three defences of her 125lb title.

Last time out she dominated and stopped top flyweight contender Katlyn Chookagian‘ at UFC 247. Besides that her record is littered with big wins over stars in the sport including Holly Holm, Liz Carmouche, Julian Pena and Joanna Jedrezejcyzk – who she beat much easier than Zhang did. Check out the full updated womens pound-for-pound rankings below.

WOMEN’S POUND-FOR-POUND RANKINGS

  1. Amanda Nunes
  2. Weili
    Zhang +1
  3. Valentina
    Shevchenko -1
  4. Jessica
    Andrade
  5.  Joanna Jedrzejczyk
  6. Rose
    Namajunas
  7.  Tatiana Suarez
  8. Holly
    Holm -1
  9. Germaine
    De Randamie
  10. Aspen Ladd
  11. Katlyn Chookagian
  12.  Jessica Eye
  13. Julianna Pena
  14. Nina Ansaroff
  15. Claudia Gadelha

Should
Weili Zhang be rated above Valentina Shevchenko in the women’s P4P rankings?

With today being Thanksgiving, we take a look to the future with five fights we should be thankful for – and that need to happen – in 2019.

In 2018, “The Notorious” Conor McGregor made his return to the Octagon, Jon “Bones” Jones is tentatively back, and there are rumblings that Georges St-Pierre wants to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov. Life has been good for MMA fans lately, and it could get even better in 2019.

It’s one thing to have high-profile fighters on your roster, and it’s another thing altogether to book the big-time fights the fans want to see. To be fair, the UFC matchmakers are some of the best in the business. And more times than not they get it right.

That being said, there are times when you are left scratching your head wondering how some fights get made. Daniel Cormier’s recent title defense over Derrick Lewis comes to mind. Regardless, we take a look at five fights that need to happen in 2019. The list starts here, enjoy.

“DC” vs. Brock Lesnar

This is one of those fights I never knew I wanted to see until I did.

If Cormier does only have one fight left will it be the big payday he deserves in Lesnar? It looks that way, but in this crazy sport, you never know.

From a competitive standpoint, Lesnar probably doesn’t deserve an immediate title shot upon his return to the Octagon. He is 0-2 (1 NC) in his last three fights and hasn’t officially won a fight since 2010. Yes, since 2010 against Shane Carwin at UFC 116. Let that sink in.

Either way, I still believe this fight needs to happen in 2019. And with Dana White recently coming out and saying he hopes “DC” postpones retirement, this may not be the last fight Cormier finds himself in the new year.

Building off UFC Denver’s most unexpected knockout, we decided to take a look at some of MMA’s most bizarre finishes. We have 25 years of fights to choose from.

Last weekend’s (Nov. 10, 2018) UFC Denver was the promotion’s 25th-anniversary show. The main event between Yair Rodriguez and Chan Sung Jung will go down in history as one of the best fights of all-time and one of the most insane ending sequences you will ever see in MMA.

The UFC has given fans 25 years of MMA and given birth to countless other promotions that have in turn provided fans with even more entertaining fights.

In a sport where you are literally fighting for your life, the term bizarre can be far-ranging. For that reason, and for the sake of this list, let’s just say a bizarre ending in a fight is something that is likely never to happen again.

The list starts here, enjoy.

Anderson Silva’s Broken Leg

When Anderson Silva broke his leg in his championship title rematch with Chris Weidman, it was the first time many fans had ever seen an injury of that ilk.

It was not, however, the first time that same leg break injury had happened inside the Octagon. The now-deceased Corey Hill broke his leg at UFC Fight for the Troops on Dec. 10, 2008. Unfortunately, many fighters in several different promotions have since suffered similar leg injuries.

Silva has now fully recovered from this bizarre fight-ending injury but he has only had three fights since that fateful night in December 2013.

The UFC’s annual Madison Square Garden pay-per-view (PPV) event is in the books. UFC 230 provided some great bouts and moments for fans in New York.

Daniel Cormier defended his title against “The Black Beast” Derrick Lewis in the main event, Chris Weidman and Jacaré Souza put on a show for the fans in an instant classic middleweight co-main event. The rest of the PPV main card was entertaining and not to mention the prelims provided us with some fantastic fights.

After a whirlwind weekend of fights, it can be difficult to organize your thoughts regarding the outcomes. After all, there were a total of 12 fights at UFC 230. That’s why we here at LowkickMMA have done the legwork for you.

Here are the six biggest takeaways from an insane UFC 230.

“DC” Has Claim At Being GOAT

At this point in his Hall of Fame career, it can be argued that Daniel Cormier is in the running for greatest of all-time.

The 39-year-old Cormier will most likely hang up the gloves after he fights Brock Lesnar in the first quarter of 2019. If he beats Lesnar as most expect he will, he will retire with a record of 23-1(1) with the only loss being to his rival Jon Jones.

Whether he is competing at light heavyweight or he is defending his title at heavyweight, “DC” just gets it done. He is a winner in every sense of the word.

His victory over Derrick Lewis was expected, but the manner in which Cormier beat Lewis is what continually impresses fight fans. ‘DC” didn’t have to absorb one power punch from “The Black Beast.” He was able to execute his game plan to a tee.

It’s my belief that not only does Cormier have a claim at being the GOAT, but I believe he has dominated time and again that he is deserving of that title.

On the heels of Derrick Lewis challenging Daniel Cormier for the heavyweight title at UFC 230, we wanted to get a deeper look at some possible match-ups that we maybe never knew we wanted to see.

As the UFC and MMA celebrate 25 years of success, one thing remains the same today as it did on that fateful night in November 1993.

Fans love compelling characters.

Perhaps there is no more charismatic fighter competing today than “The Black Beast”. Lewis parlayed his most remarkable come-from-behind KO win over Alexander Volkov into a heavyweight title shot against “DC” at UFC 230. That’s not to say Lewis isn’t deserving this opportunity. He has gone 12-3 in his UFC career, beating nine of his last 10 opponents during that stretch.

It remains to be seen if Lewis can cash in as a sizable underdog at UFC 230. But given the recent unpredictability of matchmaking in MMA, anything seems possible as of late. That is precisely why we here at LowkickMMA have created our list of seven MMA fights you never knew you wanted to see…until now.

Ryan Bader vs. Stipe Miocic

You probably never thought about Bader and Miocic fighting in the heavyweight division until now.

With the recent emergence of Bader in the Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix, the former Arizona State wrestler could become Bellator’s first fighter to hold two titles simultaneously.

Moreover, a fight between Bader and Miocic definitely has me interested. Both guys have similar wrestling pedigrees, Bader with a slight advantage, and their hands are comparable as well, with Miocic holding the edge in that department.

At this point in their careers, a fight between these two may be wishful thinking. But if Bader does return to the Octagon to close his career out, or if Miocic takes his talents to the Bellator cage, we could see this fight play out right before our eyes.
