As if you didn’t have enough MMA to deal with this weekend — what with Strikeforce Challengers tonight, Bellator 46 on Saturday night, and UFC Live: Marquardt vs. Story on Sunday night, not to mention Spike TV’s counter-programming efforts — we have another recommendation for your MMA viewing pleasure.

Last week, FUEL TV kicked off a weekly Friday-night broadcast highlighting Shark Fights‘s best recent events. Tonight starting at 9 p.m. ET/PT, they’re airing highlights from Shark Fights 15, which featured the controversial draw between Joey Villasenor and TUF 11 castmember Chris Camozzi, and Dave Branch vs. Jeremy May. Coincidentally, Shark Fights is also holding their 16th event tomorrow night in Odessa, Texas, featuring interim welterweight champion (and UFC vet) Josh Neer taking on Bellator/MFC standout Jesse Juarez.

Also? Tonight at 11 p.m., HDNet is airing the It’s Showtime 2011 Amsterdam card from last month, which was headlined by accused coke-smuggler Hesdy Gerges vs. Chris Knowles. In other words, this is one of the busiest weekends in the history of combat sports. Enjoy, and please stay hydrated.

UPDATE: Strikeforce has denied Craner’s story, and claims they have records of paying her for all her appearances and travel expenses.

Of all the ring girls that have come and gone in the employ of Strikeforce, Nicole Craner was one of the all-time greats. These days, the 29-year-old Idaho native holds cards for Shark Fights — which seems like a downgrade until you learn that Craner wasn’t getting paid at her old job. As she revealed on a recent episode of TUF Crap Radio:

“I think when you’re an organization like the UFC, they value their [Octagon] girls. They treat them well, they’re part of the family, and that’s something that I wanted to do with Strikeforce…With Strikeforce I can honestly say that I don’t think Scott Coker even knew my name. I don’t think he knew any of his ring girls’ names and I’ve never really talked about this before, but it came down to not getting paid; And for me, I treated it as a job and I put a lot of effort into it and when you’re not respected or valued enough, it makes you want to go somewhere else…

So I mean you can pay Frank Shamrock 340,000 dollars to lose but you can’t pay your ring girl 400 bucks?…There were promises made that we were going to do contracts and that we were going to travel and they had me host something that they said Josh Thomson and Cung Le would be hosting, but it was something that they didn’t host or never were going to host and I never got paid for it. So those kinds of things, to me, made me just quit. I felt that if I’m going to put passion into it and I’m going to go out there and put your name out there that I should at least be respected enough and valued as part of the company."

Damn, even the eye-candy’s taking shots at Strikeforce now. But when you consider that NFL cheerleaders make just $50-75 a game, you can’t really expect an MMA ring girl to be compensated with anything more than complimentary booty-shorts and an occasional wink from Mauro Ranallo. Whether or not Shark Fights 13 is worth $29.99 of your pay-per-view budget is up to you to decide. But you have to admit, the prospect of Keith Jardine, Sokoudjou, Houston Alexander, and Paul Daley on the same card is pretty damn compelling, especially on a weekend when nothing else is going on. After four straight losses in the UFC, Jardine calls his fight with Trevor Prangley this Saturday the beginning of his comeback. A strong performance from Paul Daley against veteran Jorge Masvidal might help Semtex get back in the UFC’s good graces as well. (Yeah, we know he was banned from the Octagon for life, but so was Karo Parisyan, and all Karo had to do was agree not to screw Dana White any more.) And sure, the Assassin vs. the African Assassin? Should be a classic banger, unless Houston decides to dance around in circles again.

Yes, generally this site is largely dedicated to the punching and kicking of the sport’s larger shows; the Strikeforces, the WECs, the Dreams and of course, the omnipresent / monolithic UFC. Naturally, there is much more to MMA than all this, and if you’re truly a big fan (and have little else to do) you should be making the most of what the entire MMA menu has to offer. Don’t just limit yourself to two or three dishes on the buffet; gorge yourself with quadruple-‘that guys got a plate in each hand’-style helpings.

While there are plenty of local shows out there that book way too many has-beens, or throw the hometown prospect a tomato can with a .200 winning percentage, Shark Fights is an organization that’s been making some headlines for its upcoming September 11^th card. In case you hadn’t heard, the Texas promotion has already booked several UFC vets for it, as Keith Jardine will face Trevor Prangley and Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou will take on Houston Alexander. Granted, they’re not MMA landscape altering title fights, but they could be pretty damn entertaining. Former UFC slugger Drew McFedries is also booked to fight Strikefore vet Joey Villasenor, which should be awesome, and Paul Daley is also scheduled to compete (opponent TBA).

Well, according to a report from MMA Junkie today, Shark Fights has announced several more ‘I wouldn’t turn that off’ fights for the Sept. 11^th card, including Dave Herman vs. Aaron Rosa, Pete Spratt vs. Eric Davila, Ronnie Mann vs. Doug Evans, and Karen Darabedyan vs. Marcus Hicks. Brock Larson has also been confirmed (opponent TBA).

Not bad huh? Broadcast plans for the card will be announced next week.
