UFC 220 was a hard lesson learned for all involved, from fans to fighters and UFC brass themselves.

Two extremely hyped contenders got beat down and demoralized, while the incumbent champions didn’t get the respect they felt they deserved.

In hindsight, Volkan Oezdemir was not ready for Daniel Cormier, and the same can be said for Francis Ngannou with Stipe Miocic.

Even so, there are so many excellent fights to make after Saturday night, so without further adieu, let’s have a look:

5. Francis Ngannou vs. Derrick Lewis

Ngannou fell short in his title shot against Stipe Miocic, but given his age and experience level, it’s fair to say he will certainly compete for the title again.

Derrick Lewis and Ngannou have traded barbs ever since “The Black Beast” beat Travis Browne and his subsequent loss to Mark Hunt. Ngannou has trolled Lewis online, saying a fight with Lewis would not bring him closer to a title shot. Well now that he’s had his shot, this is the perfect fight to make for both men, provided Lewis emerges victorious against Marcin Tybura next month.

The heavyweight division is indeed bereft of top-level contenders, and a win here for either man could catapult them back into contention.

And not for nothing, but a fight between the two would absolutely satisfy the “Just Bleed” crowd. Both of these men are harbingers of unbridled violence.

Former UFC Heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum was scheduled to rematch Cain Velasquez this past December at UFC 207, but Velasquez was forced to withdraw from the bout after failing to receive his medical license. “Vai Cavalo” was then slated to meet Ben Rothwell at the upcoming UFC 211 card, which is set for May 13, 2017, but Rothwell was recently flagged by USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) for a potential anti-doping violation, leading the UFC to scrap the bout.

Now, Werdum is expecting to face Velasquez or possibly Alistair Overeem in July, but he is also preparing for UFC 211 in case something goes wrong with the main event, which will feature a heavyweight title fight between Stipe Miocic and Junior Dos Santos:

“I was ready for May 13 fight, Ben Rothwell, but USADA got to him and I don’t know what happened,” said Werdum via “The MMA Hour.” “It’s very bad because I was waiting for this fight because he talk a lot of shit. Now, I have a lot fights canceled, last one with Cain Velasquez. Now, I am just waiting for the next one. I think the next one is either Overeem or Cain Velasquez in July.

“But, I started my camp for maybe you know, the last year we have a lot of injuries, and I don’t what Stipe or ‘Cigano’ to get injured, but it happens when you have a lot of hard training,” he added. “For May 13, I am there for sure to watch this fight, maybe if guys call me I will be waiting for this fight.”

Who would you like to see Werdum face off with next?

The Early Breakdown: Does "Rumble" have a chance against "Bones ...

Jon Jones vs. Anthony Johnson

Aside from rematches with champion Daniel Cormier and Alexander Gustafsson, former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones has essentially cleaned out the 205-pound division of new contenders with the exception of one man: No. 1-ranked Anthony “Rumble” Johnson.

The two men were scheduled to fight in April 2015, but legal issues forced Jones to withdraw. Now, “Bones” is currently sidelined until July dealing with a USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) suspension, while Johnson will likely take on “DC” in the coming months.

If Johnson can indeed take out Cormier, which he nearly did when the two first met, a match between him and Jones could finally be set up upon Jones’ return. From a stylistic standpoint, the bout makes quite a bit of sense, as it would pit arguably the best fighter of all-time up against one of the hardest hitters in the sport.
