Count it two straight victories for Hulan District native, Song Yadong — who lays waste to Julio Arce with a second round high kick and follow up strikes to proverbially kick off the main card of UFC Vegas 42.

23-year-old contender, Yadong looked to re-enter the bantamweight rankings with an eye-catching victory over Arce tonight, following a prior split decision victory against Casey Kenney back in August at UFC 265. The prominent finisher may have just achieved that feat tonight — stopping Arce with a well-placed high kick in the second round, before eventually forcing referee, Herb Dean to call a halt to the action with subsequent follow-up strikes.

Below, catch the highlights from Yadong’s finish over Arce.

Calvin Kattar & Max Holloway

UFC featherweight contender Max Holloway has advised fans that if they want to get their friends and family into MMA, they should make them tune in to his main event fight against Yair Rodriguez tonight.

Holloway, a former 145-pound champion, certainly never fails to entertain when he enters the Octagon, something that was as clear as ever in his last appearance. After losing back-to-back fights to current featherweight king Alexander Volkanovski, “Blessed” rebounded in style against Calvin Katter.

Throughout the five-round headliner, Holloway set nine new UFC records, including the most strikes attempted (746), most strikes landed (447), and the highest strike differential (+312). After battering “The Boston Finisher” for 25 minutes, perhaps a lot longer than the fight should have lasted, Holloway was awarded a unanimous decision victory.

Holloway Promises “Fireworks” At UFC Vegas 42

Having maintained his place as the division’s top contender, Holloway will be looking to secure a third fight with Volkanovski and the chance to regain the featherweight gold when he returns to action this weekend. In the UFC Vegas 42 main event, the Hawaiian will welcome #3-ranked Yair Rodriguez back to the Octagon.

During a recent appearance on DC & RC, Holloway said fans shouldn’t expect anything different from his second fight of the year. He suggested that if anyone wants to get their friends or family into MMA, tonight’s headliner is the fight to sit them down in front of the TV for.

“If you’ve got friends that never watched fights, I always tell you guys, you want them to get into MMA, you make them watch one of my fights. This weekend, here’s your shot. Get your friends, get your family members, get everybody that you want to watch MMA to tune in to this fight because it’s gonna be fireworks, it’s gonna be fun, and it’s gonna be non-stop. I can’t wait.”

Despite going back-and-forth with Conor McGregor on Twitter, and teasing a rematch with the Irish superstar, it stands to reason a victory tonight will book Holloway a chance to secure his place on the featherweight throne for a second reign.

Who do you think will have their hand raised at UFC Vegas 42 tonight, Max Holloway or Yair Rodriguez?

Joel Alvarez

Despite missing the lightweight limit for his UFC Vegas 42 return, Spanish contender, Joel Alvarez managed to lodge his most high-profile UFC victory to date in the form of an opening round knockout triumph against the #15 ranked, Thiago Moises in the featured preliminary bout of UFC Vegas 42.

Gijon native, Alvarez, known best for his wicked submission game, managed to utilise his often overlooked striking early in the opening round against fellow grappler, Moises, wobbling the Brazilian Dana White’s Contender Series alum in the center of the Octagon.

Improving to 4-1 in the UFC following a UFC 254 submission win over Joe Duffy in October of last year, Alvarez is likely to upsurp Moises as the #15 ranked contender at lightweight next week upon the release of the rankings — stopping the American Top Team trainee with a series of elbows and strikes at the fence.

Catch highlights from Alvarez’s knockout win over Moises, below.

LowKick MMA will be bringing you UFC Vegas 42: Holloway vs. Rodriguez results throughout the night (Sat. November 13. 2021) live from the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Taking main event honors in ‘Sin City’ — a high-stakes potential featherweight title-eliminator between former division best, the #1 ranked, Max ‘Blessed’ Holloway, and the streaking #3 rated challenger, Yair ‘El Pantera’ Rodriguez.

Returning for the second time this year, former undisputed featherweight kingpin, Holloway looks to solidify his status as the #1 contender once again — following masterful Octagon return in January.

Headlining UFC on ABC 1 on ‘Fight Island’, the Hawaiian scored an impressive unanimous decision victory over Calvin Kattar — setting multiple striking records en route to his damaging, one-sided judging win.

For Chihuahua native, Rodriguez, the dynamic striker makes his first Octagon outing since an October 2019 rematch victory over two-time opponent, common-foe, Jeremy Stephens in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night Boston.

The victory came as Rodriguez’s sixth in the UFC, following prior successes against the likes of Andre Fili, Dan Hooker, Alex Caceres, B.J. Penn, and Chan Sung Jung.
