(Vitor Belfort is so badass that Mike Tyson wears his t-shirt. Meanwhile, James Toney’s shirt has been discounted from $49.98 to "free with any purchase at the Salvation Army.")

Since James Toney allowed himself to be humiliated (for a large paycheck) in a cage-fight at UFC 118, it’s only fair that a representative from the UFC should let Toney try to redeem himself in a boxing ring. Could an MMA star hang with a boxing champ with 12-ounce gloves, no leg kicks, no takedowns, player? If Vitor Belfort gets his way — and we sincerely hope he does — the MMA vs. boxing freak show timeline may get a unique new chapter. As the Phenom tweeted this weekend:

"Dana let me fight James Tony on 6 round boxe Mach I think I can catch him with my speed…Dana will be the 1 boxing match in Ufc I promise he will fell my power and we will show the world the a Ufc fighter can do better"

Okay, we all know that the UFC isn’t in the business of putting on six-round boxing matches, historically speaking. But giving Vitor a day-pass to box James Toney outside of his UFC contract sounds like great publicity to me. I know the dude has a #2 middleweight contender’s match lined up for November, but come on, Belfort wins this fight nine times out of ten and goes home to his nude model wife completely unscathed. And it shouldn’t surprise you that the Dark Emperor is down with the idea…

Once the rematch between UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and challenger Chael Sonnen is sorted out, the 185-pounder next in line will most likely be the winner of Vitor Belfort vs. Yushin Okami.

Belfort confirmed Wednesday on Twitter that he will face Okami on Nov. 13, which is the date of UFC 122 in Oberhausen, Germany. Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer was first to report of the matchup.

Wanderlei Silva‘s surgically repaired right knee is still healing, but it didn’t stop the MMA legend from attending this past weekend’s UFC 118, nor has it stopped him from dreaming big about the future.

Silva, who still has significant rehabilitation ahead of him, said that if all goes well, he hopes to be back competing in the octagon in February or March.

“I feel good,” Silva said during UFC 118 weekend. “I had surgery and in the last year I’ve repaired my face and my knee. I want to fight six more years, until my 40s.”

According to Meltzer, the winner of the bout will likely take on the winner of the Chael Sonnen-Anderson Silva rematch some time in 2011. According to reports last week, that fight could happen as early as December, but may not take place until SuperBowl weekend.

If you woke up on the ‘wrong side of the bed’ today (which depending on what you consumed last night could mean various things),  you may be happy to find out that reports are firing around the internet, saying that Chael Sonnen will receive an immediate rematch with Anderson Silva sometime this winter.  According to a report on MMA Junkie, UFC top dawg Dana White confirmed on ESPN’s SportsCenter that Silva will indeed fight Sonnen when he returns from his rib injury, although no date is apparently fixed. In addition, a ‘tweet’ from the LA Times’ Lance Pugmire (thanks to Cage Potato for the heads up), stated:

UFC will stage Anderson Silva-Chael Sonnen rematch on New Year’s Eve or Super Bowl card, depending on Silva’s hurt ribs.

Pretty exciting stuff no? If you’re a Sonnen ‘booster’ then you know your boy is getting another (and really, well deserved) crack at Silva, and if you’re more about “The Spider”, then you get to see how a healthy champ fairs in the rematch (we’ll leave aside the whole ‘everyone’s injured when they fight, blah, blah, blah’ debate for another time).

So where does this leave Vitor Belfort? Who, as you likely know, has been the focus of speculation as to whether he might face Sonnen next while Silva is sidelined, well, yesterday he tweeted that he’s fighting in November. Why not see how “The Phenom” does against Yushin Okami?

According to the LA Times’ Lance Pugmire, a middleweight title rematch between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen is being penciled in for the UFC’s next New Year’s Eve or Super Bowl weekend card, after Silva recovers from the rib injury that reportedly plagued him before the fight. Unlike other immediate UFC title rematches that have been booked recently — see esp., Machida vs. Rua II, Penn vs. Edgar II — Silva and Sonnen’s first meeting didn’t end in a close/controversial judges’ decision. Instead, Silva sunk a triangle-armbar with less than two minutes remaining in the fifth round, after getting out-wrestled and battered for the previous four frames.
