Jurors in Las Vegas heard harrowing new details regarding former UFC and Bellator fighter War Machine’s vicious assaults on former girlfriend Christy Mack and her then-boyfriend Corey Thomas during opening statements on Monday. “This is it, I’ve got to kill you now,” War Machine told Mack after brutally assaulting her back on August 8, 2014.
Jurors in Las Vegas heard harrowing new details regarding former UFC and Bellator fighter War Machine’s vicious assaults on former girlfriend Christy Mack and her then-boyfriend Corey Thomas during opening statements on Monday.
“This is it, I’ve got to kill you now,” War Machine told Mack after brutally assaulting her back on August 8, 2014.
War Machine is facing 34 felony charges including attempted murder, sexual assault and kidnapping following the attacks on Mack and Thomas.
Much of Monday’s court session revolved around Thomas’ testimony. According to Thomas, War Machine initially focused his rage on him, punching him repeatedly before putting him in a choke hold, according to The Las Vegas Review Journal. The jury listened to Mack’s frantic call to 911, with Mack screaming for her ex-boyfriend to “let (Thomas) go”.
Thomas claims to have been on the verge of going unconscious as War Machine, born Jonathan Koppenhaver, choked him to the point where Thomas says he thought he would “die in Christy’s bathroom”.
War Machine, 35, then turned his attention to Mack, leaving her with ten broken bones, broken teeth, along with a fractured rib and a lacerated liver.
This was not the first time Koppenhaver had assaulted Mack, according to the prosecution, who asserted that the former MMA fighter had “slammed (Mack’s) head into a dashboard” as well as put her into chokeholds.
War Machine went on the lam immediately after the vicious assaults, and was eventually found weeks later hiding out at a motel room in California.
‘Mayhem‘ Miller has never had trouble living up to his nickname.
MMA’s wildman has a rap sheet as long as his fight record. Arrests for a stand off with a S.W.A.T team, the (nude) thrashing of a church, an assault on his sister and a drunken fight with two women highlight a serious propensity for getting into trouble.
According to prosecutors, ‘Mayhem’ stands accountable for an assault [on his previous partner] which stretch over. two separate incidents. ‘Mayhem’ allegedly followed this up by sending threatening messages over social media. Mayhem’s lawyers contest this account as a fabrication resulting from an ex-partner who was unhappy with the result of a threesome Miller was involved in with her.
Miller is best known for his wacky character in the MMA world, but from today will have to contend with the world having explicit knowledge of his sex life following his lawyer’s statement in court:
“Their [Miller and ex-partner] sex life, you’re gonna hear about,” jurors were told. “They exchanged photos, you’re gonna see some pictures, they’re known in the colloquial as ‘dick pics.’ You’re gonna see pictures of Mr. Miller’s penis in this case. They have a provocative sex life, threesomes, other women, sex parties, rough sex, choking, peeing, golden showers, golden showers where someone gets urinated on. They have some of that, that night. Mr. Miller urinates on her in the shower, he pees on here … they do a little of that, they have some fun.”
‘Mayhem’ spoke out in March, alleging that he was the target of a campaign ran by Police and the media who were ‘attempting to turn him into the next War Machine’. The trial continues…

First let’s start with the case his lawyer, Brandon Sua, put forth in Kopenhaver’s preliminary hearing on Monday, which is the most batsh*t insane defense we’ve heard since Anderson Silva’s NSAC hearing. (via the Las Vegas Review):
Defense lawyers also argued that Mackinday’s work in pornography pointed to consent and that Koppenhaver and Mackinday often engaged in rough sex.
Mackinday’s career lead to her “desire, the preference, the acceptability towards a particular form of sex activities that were outside of the norm,” Sua said.
Koppenhaver met Mackinday while making an adult movie.
“The jury needs to know the nature of this relationship, and what was customary and consensual,” Sua said outside the courtroom.
So basically, because Mack was a pornstar, she was unable to be raped. Ho. Lee. Shit.
This argument was, of course, immediately challenged by Chief Deputy District Attorney Jacqueline Bluth, who made the obvious observation that a person’s (perceived) preferences in their professional life does not translate into their personal one. District Judge Elissa Cadish seemed to agree, stating, “I don’t see how any of those activities that she did in adult movies would ever show her consent to the acts with the defendant that he’s charged with. I’m not seeing that connection.”
As if that wasn’t icky enough, Koppenhaver then responded by blowing Bluth a kiss.
“Judge, for the record, Mr. Koppenhaver just blew a kiss at me,” she said.
Defense attorney Brandon Sua said he didn’t see it.
“I’m not going to make up that he blew a kiss at me, which I find offensive,” Bluth said.
District Judge Elissa Cadish turned to the defendant, who was seated in the jury box, while shackled and wearing an orange prison jumpsuit: “Mr. Koppenhaver, stop. You are not to make any gestures of any kind toward counsel. Don’t go there.”
