Heading into his most recent fight at EFN 50 last Friday (June 17, 2016), legendary heavyweight Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko was reportedly “closer than ever” to signing with the UFC.

But then the fight took place, and the situation became quite a bit cloudier.

Perhaps unsurprising to many, a 38-year-old Emelianenko simply looked like a fighter far past his prime, and he certainly didn’t look like the version of himself that was considered to be the very best heavyweight of all-time who went nearly ten years without surrendering a defeat.

Taking on a much smaller Fabio Maldonado, Emelianenko was bloodied, battered, and nearly finished early before recovering and fighting back to secure a highly questionable majority decision. In the aftermath of the bout, many were calling for the Russian legend to retire, and it appeared as if far less fans wanted to see him finally compete under the UFC banner.

While it’s clear that his skills aren’t where they once were, the UFC is a business, and Emelianenko is and always has been a huge draw. UFC President Dana White even said that his fight, which was broadcasted live on UFC Fight Pass, did very well from a ratings standpoint.

Emelianenko’s future with the UFC is unclear, but it’s quite an interesting time to look at the top five UFC opponents for “The Last Emperor” if he were to indeed sign with the promotion (listed in no particular order).

The monumental UFC 200 card is now just a few weeks away as the event is slated to take place on July 9, 2016 from the brand new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The main event will feature a long-awaited rematch over a year in the making as interim 205-pound champion and pound-for-pound king Jon “Bones” Jones attempts to recapture the title from reigning champion Daniel “DC” Cormier. Jones scored a unanimous decision over Cormier in January 2015, but was stripped of the title later that year after running into legal issues.

In the evening’s co-main event, former UFC heavyweight champion and WWE superstar Brock Lesnar will make his somewhat shocking, yet highly-anticipated return against legendary knockout artist Mark “The Super Samoan” Hunt. Lesnar’s return was announced earlier this month at June 4’s UFC 199, and Hunt was named as his opponent soon thereafter.

Also on the main card, newly minted women’s bantamweight champion Miesha “Cupcake” Tate will defend her 135-pound strap against Brazilian contender Amanda Nunes. And if that wasn’t enough, Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar will rematch with the interim featherweight title hanging in the balance.

Three Keys To Victory For Brock Lesnar At UFC 200

Prior to last Saturday (June 4, 2016), UFC 200, which is slated for July 9, 2016 from The T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, appeared to be all but finalized, and the card was loaded to say the least. Featuring the ultra-rare three title fights in one night, UFC 200 was set to be headlined

Prior to last Saturday (June 4, 2016), UFC 200, which is slated for July 9, 2016 from The T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, appeared to be all but finalized, and the card was loaded to say the least.

Featuring the ultra-rare three title fights in one night, UFC 200 was set to be headlined by the long-awaited light heavyweight title rematch between bitter rivals Daniel “DC” Cormier and Jon “Bones” Jones.

The thought to be co-main event would feature yet another highly-anticipated rematch between former champions Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar with the interim 145-pound belt hanging in the balance.

Also on the main card, bantamweight queen Miesha Tate would defend her title for the very first time against surging contender Amanda Nunes.

Aside from these three glaring bouts, the event was set to feature some of the sport’s greatest talents and biggest names from top to bottom.

It appeared as if it couldn’t get any better, but then it did.

UFC 199 went down last weekend from The Forum in Inglewood, California. During the live pay-per-view broadcast, the UFC released a chilling promo that featured all six fighters set to compete for UFC gold. At the end, a familiar voice roared, and a famous face appeared.

That man was none other than former UFC heavyweight champion and former WWE champion Brock Lesnar. The man who holds the UFC pay-per-view record for his UFC 100 headliner in July 2009 would be making his return to the Octagon nearly five years after hanging up his gloves.

It was later announced that the ex-champion would be taking on long-time veteran and No. 8-ranked Mark Hunt in the co-main event, a somewhat surprising matchup given Hunt’s skill level and Lesnar’s layoff, but Lesnar was thrown to the wolves nonetheless.

It may be a daunting task, but make no mistake about it, Lesnar is coming with something to prove.

Let’s take a look at three paths to victory for the former heavyweight boss at UFC 200:

Brock Lesnar’s UFC Return Could Send Ronda Rousey To Wrestlemania

After the recent announcement that former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar would be making his return to the Octagon at July 9’s blockbuster UFC 200 from Las Vegas, Nevada, many had wondered what was in it for the WWE.

After all, Lesnar is still under contract with the professional wrestling organization so why would Vince McMahon let one of his biggest stars go off and compete in the UFC?

Lesnar made it seem as if McMahon was simply allowing him to follow his dreams, but perhaps the WWE is also hoping to use the deal as leverage in luring in some UFC stars to participate in WWE events in the near future.

For example, it was recently reported that rising star and women’s strawweight contender Paige VanZant could potentially appear at ‘SummerSlam’ later this summer.

According to Forbes, that’s not all the WWE is hoping for, however.

Aside from some added promotion to ‘SummerSlam’, which Lesnar will also compete at, the WWE is hoping to have former UFC bantamweight champion and mega star “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey participate at the highly-anticipated Wrestlemania 33 in Orlando, Florida.

Rousey actually appeared in the ring at Wrestlemania 31 in a segment, but the WWE is now hoping to book her for a legitimate wrestling match as opposed to just an appearance.

Rousey hasn’t competed in the Octagon since shockingly surrendering her title in brutal fashion to Holly Holm at November 2015’s UFC 193 from Melbourne, Australia.

Her return to MMA has been discussed, rumored, and pushed back time and time again, and there is no official date as of now.

Will we see the former champion next in the Octagon or the WWE ring?
