Khabib Nurmagomedov is set to face punishment for starting an insane brawl following his main event win over Conor McGregor at UFC 229. There’s no denial from the UFC, fans, and media that the brawl was anything but dangerous.

It was also the kind of high drama that MMA fans live for.

Khabib leaping into the crowd to take on McGregor’s teammate Dillon Danis was the perfect extension of their pre-installed bad blood. That dates back to McGregor’s infamous Brooklyn bus attack this spring.

Khabib and McGregor will both appear before the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) in November. ‘The Eagle’s’ purse is being withheld in the meantime.

But in a somewhat odd set of circumstances, McGregor’s longtime head coach John Kavanagh hopes Khabib isn’t punished much. He discussed the brawl on “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast (via MMA Fighting) today. Kavanagh can understand Khabib’s point of view for the attack.

He can’t side with his teammates who attacked McGregor, however:

“I hope [The Nevada State Athletic Commission] is lenient on [Nurmagomedov]. Not just so we can get a rematch. I just love watching him fight. I can stretch myself to understand his reaction, I can’t stretch myself to understand [his teammates] reaction. For Khabib, it’s not the end of the world.”

What Did Danis Do?

The SBG Ireland coach then dove into detail about just what Danis said to set Khabib off. In his words, Danis didn’t say anything. He did apparently motion to Khabib, however, yet Kavanagh didn’t believe it deserved the level of response it got:

“[Danis] actually didn’t say anything. I was standing beside Dillon. I didn’t see what he did but I could hear. He didn’t say anything. When I watched it back I could see him beckon [Nurmagomedov] on. It’s just stupid end of fight stuff.

“But it didn’t justify that level of response. Maybe there was something else in the build up. Dillon is a little bit of trouble online. But, like I said, it wasn’t that big of a deal to me what Khabib did. It just really wasn’t.”

Kavanagh’s taking a rather nonchalant approach to the whole scene. It echoes Khabib’s own response that played down the brawl down. He may understand where Khabib is coming from after the bus attack and endless personal insults in the lead-up to the fight. No one could blame him if that was the case.

So what Khabib did wasn’t a big deal to him. It was much more concerning what Khabib’s teammates did to a tired McGregor. Kavanagh insisted that an actual crime of assault:

“Like I said, if Khabib had done that isolated, I didn’t think it was a big deal,” said Kavanagh. “He didn’t really hit Dillon. There was a bit of pushing and pulling.

“Who cares?

“But a man coming up, a trained fighter with bare knuckles, hitting a guy who’s tired, who’s taken some rounds and taking some shots, there has to be ramifications for that. An example has to be made….It’s criminal. It’s assault.”

Dana White Reveals Conor McGregor Already Asked For Khabib Rematch

UFC President Dana White has had his hands full in the wake of the biggest fight in MMA history. Further complicating matters, Conor McGregor has informed White he wants an immediate rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

McGregor suffered the fourth loss of his career on Saturday night (Oct. 6, 2018) at the sold-out T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. After Nurmagomedov submitted McGregor in the fourth round, all hell broke loose. Nurmagomedov lept over the Octagon to attack a member of McGregor’s corner, Dillon Danis.

Following the fight, McGregor wrote on social media he is “looking forward to the rematch.” He also stated that Khabib ‘won the match but lost the battle.’

Angling For A Rematch

White told ESPN’s “First Take” on Monday morning that McGregor has already brought it up to him directly.

“[Nurmagomedov] has to go before the Nevada commission, and we have to see what’s going to happen with Khabib and this whole mess. But Conor McGregor has already called me, wanting a rematch.”

“That’s what Conor has asked for. We’ll see what happens with Khabib and what’s next. Tony Ferguson looked amazing. Those two have been lined up three different times to fight and it hasn’t happened. We’ll see how things play out.”

According to White, several members of Khabib’s entourage were taken into custody by Las Vegas Metro PD. However, McGregor refused to press charges and the men were released from custody.

For his actions, the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) has withheld Nurmagomedov’s $2,000,000 disclosed purse pending a full investigation of what took place after the fight in the Octagon.

McGregor was also seen throwing punches at members of Khabib’s corner. However, the NSAC quickly deemed his actions self defense and thus McGregor has since been paid in full for his main event fight.

Khabib’s Fate

Nurmagomedov faces possible fines, community service, a potential suspension for his actions, and his may affect his ability to renew his travel visa.

White said the UFC will allow the NSAC to conduct its hearings before making a decision on Nurmagomedov’s next fight. He also said the UFC took extra precautions to prevent this type of situation, but it was unavoidable.

“We knew some things could happen after this fight. So we had everything in place to make sure that didn’t happen. I didn’t see Khabib jumping over the cage like that. He got over that thing quick and was going after one of Conor’s cornermen.”

“There’s no doubt he’s justified for being upset. But first of all, you, you just won the fight against the biggest superstar in all of sports, let alone our sport. You just beat him while the whole world was watching. … The only one getting hurt in this thing now is Khabib. Now he has to go before the Nevada commission.”

Dillon Danis fires back at former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos after RDA had some harsh comments about the UFC 229 brawl.

The Incident

This came hours after Danis was involved in the wild brawl that took place Saturday’s UFC 229 pay-per-view event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada after Khabib Nurmagomedov beat Conor McGregor by fourth-round neck crank.

It’s well known that Nurmagomedov jumped the cage after the title fight that saw him leap off the apron and went right after McGregor cornerman Danis. It’s been documented that Danis was egging him on and Khabib went for his chance. Back to RDA, he took to his official Twitter account where he called Danis a “nobody.”

RDA Comments

The attack that includes Nurmagomedov’s actions, as well as three of his teammates being involved, currently being investigated by the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC). RDA wrote the following:

“This guy Dillan Dennis he is nobody, he just suck Conor’s balls and hide behind him, that’s his job. He never going to make it, be on Conor’s corner is his career highlight.”

Dillon Danis Fires Back

This led to Danis responding to RDA by challenging the former UFC champion to a fight, which appears to take place in the street. Here is what the Bellator fighter and top Brazilian jiu-jitsu competitor wrote back:

“let’s fight then fuck commissions let’s meet up and fight you pussy little bitch you give every fight you no heart rat.”

Dos Anjos vs. Kamaru Usman has been booked in the main event for the upcoming TUF 28 Finale event that goes down later this month. The TUF 28 Finale (also known as The Ultimate Fighter: Heavy Hitters Finale) is set to take place on Friday, November 30, 2018 at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The main card will air on FOX Sports 1 while the preliminary card will be split broadcasted on FOX Sports 1 and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.

Khabib Should Be Arrested And/Or Stripped

By all accounts, UFC 229 was the biggest and most-watched fight card in company history. Yet Khabib Nurmagomedov decided to act a fool.

It’s a shame that such a masterful performance will be marred in controversy. But unfortunately that’s the situation with Khabib, and the sport of MMA finds itself in. What was he thinking as he scaled the cage and dove at Dillon Danis?

UFC President Dana White was noticeably subdued during the post-fight press conference when he explained that he doesn’t know what the future holds for the unbeaten champion. Several media members asked White if Khabib would be stripped of his lightweight title.

White chose his words carefully while addressing Khabib but did reveal that the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) is going to most likely slam the Dagestani for this actions on Saturday night.

Making matters worse for Khabib, Nevada’s governor was in attendance for UFC 229. Per White, the governor went running for his life when the brawl broke out. The governor oversees the athletic commission. That can’t bode well for the Dagestani.

Kevin Lee Working On $100K Jiu-Jitsu Match With Dillon Danis

This should be good.

UFC lightweight Kevin Lee is game to do a $100k jiu-jitsu match with Bellator’s Dillon Danis.

The challenge was thrown out on social media recently, and Lee has accepted. He tells MMA Junkie that his people have reached out to him and he’s waiting to hear back:

“He issued the challenge,” Lee said. “I’m still waiting to hear back. I know his people reached out to mine. I said I’ll take it.”

Danis called Lee out after “The Motown Phenom” trashed his grappling ability. The challenge picked up a lot of steam, which amused Lee. When he does grapple with Danis, he doesn’t plan on making it a big event. He simply wants to meet Danis on the mat, man to man:

“It’s just going to be me and him,” he said. “Man to man. Just straight jiu-jitsu.”

That doesn’t necessarily mean fans won’t be able to watch. Danis had previously suggested they could put the match on their Instagram stories. Lee suggested going bigger, perhaps posting it on YouTube:

“(Danis) said we’ll put it on our Instagram story,” Lee said. “That seems a little too small. That we have to figure out. But it will just be me and him probably in a room. We’ll put it on YouTube or something.”

Lee also suggested that they get the match done on UFC 229 fight week. Danis will be in training partner Conor McGregor’s corner when he fights Khabib Nurmagomedov. The bout will be in Las Vegas, where Lee lives. He thinks Danis will be able to spare an hour or two to roll with him.

It was even suggested John Kavanagh serve as the referee, if they use one:

“He’ll have some free time,” Lee said. “We can set aside an hour or two and get it done.”

Initially Lee wanted the match under combat jiu-jitsu rules, however, he has agreed to traditional rules instead.

He isn’t too worried about losing to Danis, who he claims he threw around when they rolled in Las Vegas before. Should Danis upset him, however, it won’t affect him too much:

“I grapple every day,” he said. “What am I going to do, lose? I don’t give a (expletive). It’s 100 Gs. I’m going to be pissed, but it is what it is.”
