Dillian Whyte

Dillian Whyte knocked out his opponent with a punch in just 13 seconds of his only mixed martial arts fight.

Ahead of his highly anticipated fight with Tyson Fury for the WBC heavyweight championship this Saturday, we look at Dillian Whyte’s origins in combat sports and revisit his only fight in MMA. Whyte started out as a professional kickboxer and became the two-time British heavyweight champion, including the BIKMA British super-heavyweight title and the European K1 belt.

Before transitioning to MMA, he was ranked number one for five years in a row in his weight class (95kg+) and only suffered one loss out of his 21 matches in the ring. At 19 years old, Whyte was on the undercard for James McSweeney vs Neil Grove when he squared off against Mark Stroud in his solitary MMA bout.

He went on to knock his opponent out cold in just 13 seconds with an overhand right to the chin.

With an impressive debut in the sport, Whyte never returned for another fight as he switched over to boxing. In 2020, he claimed that he could knock out any top heavyweights in the UFC. He had even set up a surprise press conference with Francis Ngannou in hopes of setting up a mega-crossover fight but nothing resulted from the affair since.

Eddie Hearn backs Dillian Whyte to knock out Tyson Fury

Dillian Whyte has established his name as the world’s fifth-best ranked active heavyweight boxer by The Ring Magazine. ‘The Body Snatcher’ has also been ranked among BoxRec’s top ten heavyweights since 2016 with a knockout percentage of 68%.

Boxing promoter and chairman of Matchroom Sport Eddie Hearn has backed Dillian Whyte to potentially knock out Tyson Fury in their upcoming fight this Saturday. While he acknowledged The Gypsy King’s abilities, he stated his support for Whyte.

“On paper right now, Tyson Fury is the best heavyweight in the world, but Dillian Whyte can beat anybody on his day. Sometimes when you look at a fight and you say, ‘How can they win?’ He can knock Tyson Fury out.

“Dillian Whyte has the power one-punch power, and he’s a fantastic body puncher as well to knock someone out.

“Any heavyweight in the division, he has the power to knock them out.”

The former undefeated lightweight champion left the sport at his pinnacle after making his third successful title defense over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254. Nurmagomedov currently is the longest-reigning champion within the lightweight division having held the belt for just short of three years.

Khabib Nurmagomedov On His Journey To The Top

Khabib Nurmagomedov took to his social media to reflect on the journey it took him to get to the top, and more specifically on his matchup with Rafael dos Anjos.

“Exactly 8 years ago my fight against dos Anjos took place. Before this fight he had 5 consecutive wins and after fighting me he had 5 consecutive victories and in addition after my fight he became the Champion. Since after fighting with him in 2 months, I tore the front ACL ligaments and knocked him out of the championship race for as long as 2 years, and everything after that is history….I divide my professional career into 2 clips: The first section is 2008-2016. The second section is 2016-2021. I’ll tell you about this section some other time.” (Transcribed by BJPenn)

Khabib Nurmagomedov called it a career in 2021 and has since begun working on his own promotion Eagle FC in the aim to turn the promotion into a household name.

Following his defeat to Khabib, the Brazilian would bounce back and claim five straight victories back-to-back.  Dos Anjos himself is still competing to the day and most recently picked up a victory over Renato Moicano at UFC 272 back in March.

Most recently Rafael dos Anjos has had speculation surrounding a potential matchup against Dustin Poirier in the summer at UFC 276 being his next outing.

Conor McGregor acquired the lavish lifestyle that he now leads through extreme hard work and a steel-clad resolve to be the best. However, it is one thing to be on top, and entirely different to remain on top.

McGregor reached the pinnacle when he claimed double champ status, but has since seen his career trajectory take a different turn, dropping fights in both MMA and boxing against the likes of Floyd Mayweather and Khabib Nurmagomedov, as well as going through extended spells of inactivity.

“Eggs. Potatoes. Maybe some mushroom,” McGregor explained. “A spinach and kale type of juice, or it could be like spinach on the side. Then maybe some fruit; a strawberry smoothie … strawberries or maybe some watermelon or pineapple and that would be a good fuel breakfast. Fully fuelled.”

Once breakfast has been taken care of it’s time for McGregor to do what he does best and get inside the gym.

“I’d do breakfast, have a pre-workout and then I’d usually work out. I’d work out then I’d come home and eat my lunch, that would be some rice dish… maybe a root veg. Maybe some potato mash and maybe some chicken, something like that, depending on what the next sessions were.”

Although for some people it may seem Conor McGregor’s routine may be a lot too take on the Irishmen definitely feels like he reaps the rewards.

MTK Global

MTK Global, a boxing and mixed martial arts management firm founded by ruptured cartel boss, Daniel Kinahan as well as former professional boxer, Matthew Macklin – have confirmed this Wednesday lunchtime that they are ceasing operations at the end of April.

In a lengthy statement released this hour, the management firm once more denied its links with alleged drugs baron, Daniel Kinahan – claiming that the Dubliner had stepped away from the firm in any capacity since 2017, insisting that since his sanctioning earlier this week, they have been met with “unfair scrutiny” and “criticizm”.

“As a business, we have faced unprecedented levels of unfair scrutiny and criticism since the sanctioning by the US Government of Daniel Joseph Kinahan,” the official MTK Global statement read.

“It is a matter of public record that Mr. Kinahan’s involvement in MTK Global ceased in 2017, and despite repeated reassurances in this regard, unfounded allegations about his ongoing association with us and our fighters persist.”

“Since leading promoters have now informed us that they will be severing all ties with MTK and will no longer work with our fighters, we have taken the difficult decision to cease operations at the end of this month.”

“MTK prospered because we always put the long term interests of our fighters at the heart of what we do. Our priority in the weeks ahead will be to ensure that our world class boxers are supported to find new partnerships as swiftly as possible.”

“MTK gyms are operated independently so will remain open for the foreseeable future. Further announcements will be made in due course.”

“Thank you to all fans who have supported us over the last decade.”

MTK Global co-founder, Daniel Kinahan was sanctioned by the US Government last week

Last week, the United States Department of the Treasury as well as the Office of Foreign Assests Control issued sanctions against Daniel Kinahan, his father, Christopher Kinahan Sr. and his brother, Christopher Kinahan Jr. – and placed a bounty of $5,000,000 on each member for information which would lead to the financial disruption of the transnational Kinahan Organized Crime Group (KOCG), or the arrest and conviction of it’s leading members. Daniel Kinahan was previously named in the Irish High Court as the manager and controller of the Kinahan Organized Crime Group.

At the time of their ceasing of operations, MTK Global represent numerous, prominent fighters in both professional boxing and mixed martial arts.

Amongst those represented by MTK Global are current WBC heavyweight boxing champion, Tyson Fury, UFC middleweight contender, Darren Till, as well as UFC welterweight, Mounir Lazzez to name a few.

Ahead of Fury’s heavyweight title defense against Dillian Whyte this weekend at Wembley Stadium, he insisted that any relationship he had with Daniel Kinahan was nobody else’s business.

Following UFC Vegas 51 last weekend, MTK Global managed, Lazzezz issued a shout out to Daniel Kinahan, thanking him for his advice during his professional career, and labelled him a “brother” and “advisor”. Lazzezz insisted when pressed on the issue of issuing a callout to a reputed cartel leader, that he was not aware of sanctions imposed against Daniel Kinahan.

Daniel Cormier

Former two-division UFC champion Daniel Cormier has urged Jake Paul to fight currently active former UFC fighter Anderson Silva. Paul recently took to social media to call out Michael Bisping for a boxing matchup, despite ‘The Count’ retiring quite some time ago.

Bisping being the fighting man that he is wants the matchup, with the stipulation he had some time to lose weight first and get back into fighting shape. However, a long-time friend of Bisping, Daniel Cormier, has called for Paul to test himself against ‘The Spider’ instead.

“You want an older guy to fight?” he said. “There’s a former UFC champion that is doing exactly what you’re doing. His name’s Anderson Silva. That’s who you should be fighting, Jake. That’s who you should be calling out!”

Daniel Cormier Advises Jake Paul

Daniel Cormier would go on to explain how he felt Silva was a better fit in comparison to Bisping with the Brazilian still being a former title holder in the UFC but also a currently active boxer too.

“You should be calling out Anderson, not Michael Bisping. That’s the fight. Not only does that fight fit the mold of what you’re doing, that fight actually gives us some idea of what this thing is that you’re trying to do or portray.”

“If you really want to show the world, if you really want to prove that this is a second career for Jake Paul, fight Anderson Silva. That’s fun because Anderson Silva is still an amateur boxer, but he’s still training, and he’s still fit.”

Although Cormier is not against Bisping taking on Jake Paul as he believes the British fighter would take him into deep waters. For Paul to progress this fight needs to be against Anderson Silva.

“If Jake Paul wants to be considered real and Jake Paul wants to be an actual fighter, you’ve gotta fight somebody that is more in the game. And that person to me is Anderson Silva.” (Transcribed by Dexerto)

Jorge Masvidal

Jorge Masvidal has made an appearance on the IMPAULSIVE podcast revealing his thoughts on UFC 272 and the altercation that followed.

Gamebred is currently dealing with an alleged assault case on Covington after attacking him whilst he was out to dinner following on from their matchup. Masvidal revealed the disappointment he felt in himself whilst speaking on the show.

“I was f—king irate,” Masvidal told the IMPAULSIVE podcast “I was upset, and I just like to be in isolation when I get like that. It’s better for me. Take a couple days to figure it out and if I have a problem and I can’t figure it out, f—k, then it’s a real problem. I could fail at something, but if I could find a way to fix it, then I can go back and address it again, then I can sleep with peace at night. So that’s what I did — five, six days in that nowhere land, like, ‘F—k,’ and then I came up with a plan, and now I’m gonna execute that plan.”

Ultimately Colby Covington would get the better of Jorge Masvidal over the five rounds and claim a unanimous decision victory after applying a wrestling-heavy approach.

Jorge Masvidal New Training Approach

There was a major gap in the wrestling abilities between the pair, something that Jorge Masvidal hopes to remove over through the upcoming weeks.

“I’m gonna go spend some time in Pennsylvania, wrestle in the morning, wrestle at night, wrestle in the morning, wrestle at night, and stay doing that, because I don’t feel like I have to work on my boxing — not to be cocky — or my kicking,” Masvidal said. “It’s there any time. I’ve just got to sharpen it up before fights. So one of my main plans right now is go wrestle day and night and see what comes out of it.

“I’m not even thinking that far yet,” he concluded. “I’m just gonna go sharpen these tools. Just wrestle, wrestle and f—k see what comes out of it. And once I feel I’ve improved, I’ve leveled up, I’ve f—king hit a Super Saiyan on everybody, we’ll find out who I’m gonna f—king murder.” (Transcribed by MMAMania).

Is it too late for Jorge Masvidal to make significant improvements in his career?
