This past Saturday at UFC on Fox 23, Jorge Masvidal put on the most impressive performance of his 14-year professional MMA career. His opponent, Donald Cerrone, had been knocked out only twice in his previous 40 MMA fights before stepping into the cage with Masvidal.

If you weren’t familiar with Gamebred heading into this fight, you’re probably not the only one. Despite his 42 professional MMA fights prior to this one, he had always come up short in his most high-profile bouts. He had yet to produce a star-making performance.

His victory over Cowboy changed all that.

Given that Masvidal’s name is hotter than ever, it’s worth looking back in time when he competed in backyard fights. His two most high-profile fights came against Kimbo’s protege. Ray was the bigger and seemingly stronger fighter, but Masvidal used his superior technique and speed to wear him down and pick him apart. In both fights, Ray was left with no choice but to quit (warning: NFSW language)

Masvidal recalled Kimbo’s reaction to it all in an MMAjunkie interview last year:

“He was going nuts. He took me out to eat dinner and at the time I was dead broke. He took me to this fancy-ass place and at the time I was like, ‘Damn, this dude’s balling.’ And it was just cool as (expletive). I thought we were going to have to do some thugged-out (expletive), like run out on the bill, but he paid for the whole thing. I was like, ‘Man, this is some crazy (expletive).'”

All these years later and Gamebred appears to be in the best fight shape of his life. Perhaps he’s finally on his way to making a title run, assuming he can string together a few more impressive wins.

It’s been 10 months since the late-great Kimbo Slice took his last walk to the cage to participate in mixed martial arts (MMA) competition, and the bout took the co-main event slot of Bellator 149 from Houston, Texas in February where Slice threw down with Dhafir “Dada 5000” Harris.

Slice would take home the TKO win in the third round of the contest, and Dada would be escorted out of the arena on a stretcher to a local hospital where he was in critical condition for an extended period of time. The result of the bout was later overturned to a No Contest, however, as Slice would later test positive for a banned substance.

Harris recently joined the Go 4 It Show with Paul Gant (courtesy of MMA Mania) to discuss the bout, where he claimed that he may have been poisoned before the fight because he felt something was ‘definitely not clean’ in the water that night:

“Man listen I’m not insinuating. Something in the water was definitely not clean. I came there to compete. Kimbo’s been there before. This is my first time being on the level of that magnitude, right? But I had been on various other levels. I already was prominent,

“I already was a figure, already was known to millions of individuals worldwide prior to me coming to Bellator right? I took on certain things and they seen that there was no fear inside me, and all I’m saying is what happened to me. Who did it? That remains to be seen.”

Dada would then go on to state that he believes Bellator knew that Slice was on banned substances before their bout, but allowed him to compete given the magnitude of the event:

“For me to pass a drug test, they took urine and so forth from me 30 minutes before I went out in the fight. They came back and said it was good. They also did the same thing to Kimbo Slice. So at the end of the day if they came back and told me I was good, I’m pretty sure they told him something else. But that remains to be something that production has to deal with because I do understand that the fight was that big.”

kimbo-slice-4[1]Harris believes the entire situation was designed to allow Slice to compete with an upper hand to ‘destroy’ him in attempt to make the ‘backyard movement’ look like fools:

“You know I really feel like it was designed for Kimbo Slice to come out on steroids and just destroy me in front of the world, and make me and the backyard movement look like a laughing joke. It didn’t look like that. I still lasted to the third round.”

Throughout the bout’s progression Harris feels as though Slice may have been intimidated by his stand-up game, and that is why he decided to take the bout to the ground:

“You’ve got the skills, you had the technique, you had the experience. Your hands were supposed to be legitimately better than mine. I was willing to come out and duke it out with that dude. I didn’t take him to the ground. When we went to the ground he took ME to the ground, but he’s the boxing beast. I was willing to get out there and trade hands with you, but when I rushed him back to the cage, survival mode kicked in.”

The fight was certainly one of the most bizarre (to say the least) things we’ve seen inside of an MMA cage, but do you truly believe Dada could have been poisoned?

As 2016 rapidly draws to a conclusion and we take stock of the year gone by, one trend that casts a long shadow is the alarming number of past and present MMA fighters who’ve died over the past 12 months.

Unfortunately the sport of mixed martial arts is still too young for this to simply be a case of stars passing away due to old age. In fact, with the age of the 10 fighters listed here ranging from just 25-49 years old, we are left having to come to terms with the fact that these were 10 lives that were simply taken far too soon.

A knee-jerk reaction would be to assume that these deaths occurred due to injuries they sustained in the cage, but the truth is that only one of the ten passed away in that manner – although we can surely all agree that’s one too many.

As you’ll read in the pages to follow however, the reasons for the others deaths are just as hard to accept, from sudden medical emergencies to apparent suicide, from freak accidents to cold-blooded murder.

The son of late-great mixed martial artist (MMA) Kimbo Slice, Kevin Ferguson Jr., is ready to make his own debut in the sport of MMA in the same promotion his father competed in, Bellator.

Ferguson has been set to make his debut in Bellator on multiple occasions now, however, a string of issues involving his opponents have kept him out of the cage.

‘Baby Slice’ recently joined Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting on The MMA Hour last week to discuss his journey in the sport, stating he is taking it a lot more seriously after his father’s untimely death earlier this year:

“I take it more serious now,” Ferguson Jr. said. “It means a lot more to me now. At this point, it’s not even about the money or about the fame. It’s just about continuing the legacy. That’s my goal now, is to just continue the legacy and take the Slice name to the next level. To show the new Slice.”

While the situation of Ferguson’s debut being put off multiple times now is certainly a frustrating one for the young welterweight, he continues to keep a positive mindset about the situation as he promises it will only give him longer to sharpen his tools inside the cage:

“I’m gonna be more prepared, I’m gonna have more cardio, more technique, more power,” he said. “My skills are just gonna get better. I just feel bad for my opponent, whoever the guy is. He’s gonna get hurt in there.”

Although his father was very famous in the fight game at the time of his start in the amateur ranks in MMA, he refused to ask for help as he wanted to pave his own path in his journey to the big leagues:

“I didn’t ask for any help,” he said. “I wanted to show these guys that I was serious about it and this is something that I really wanted to do and that’s what I did. Now I have all the help that I need. I have all the right guys in my corner.”

Ferguson admits fighting is something that he has always wanted to pursue, as it is simply in his blood. He was reluctant to go to school as he would rather focus on training for a career in fighting, but out of respect to his father’s wishes he went to college where he studied photography:

Kevin Ferguson Jr.

“I’ve always wanted to be a fighter,” Ferguson said. “I didn’t want to go to school. I didn’t even want to go to high school honestly, I just wanted to be in the gym and fight.”

Due to Ferguson being the son of one of the most famous fighters to ever lace up a pair of gloves, many young talents are calling out the new pro to throw down inside the cage, something the 24-year-old welcomes with open arms:

“All these guys calling me out, I want them to call me out,” Ferguson Jr. said. “I want them to think they could step in the ring with me and step in the cage with me and step in the cage with me, because then they’re gonna be in for a rude awakening. I’ve been doing this for a while. I’m just ready to showcase my skills and let the world know.

“It’s really no pressure with [Kimbo Slice] being my father. It’s just more eyes on me. I got a bigger fanbase now because of him. All his fans are my fans.”

The UFC is quickly building a roster of stars who are crossing over into Hollywood in a big way.

It seems as if each and every week we hear or see a fighter on a famous TV Show, movie, or other form of major entertainment stage.

From Ronda Rousey making an appearance at Wrestlemania, to UFC golden boy Conor McGregor starring in the latest installment of the Call Of Duty franchise, the UFC is steadily starting to take over the entertainment section of the world along with sports as well.

Prior to the Conor McGregor’s and Ronda Rousey’s of the world, however, some other UFC combatants have also kicked ass on the big screen as well.

With that said, let’s take a look at our top 10 UFC fighters who threw down in movies…..

Dan Henderson10. Dan Henderson

We kick off our list with the former Pride Champion who will be competing this weekend for his first career UFC title, when he takes on Michael Bisping in the main event of UFC 204 for the 185-pound title.

Henderson, a two-time UFC title challenger, is one of the most hardest hitting men to have ever stepped inside the Octagon, and he took his hard hitting punches to the big screen.

Before he looks to shut Bisping’s lights out again to take home the gold, as he did at UFC 100 in their initial meeting, Henderson did in fact dabble in the acting business as in the middle of his MMA career.

While Henderson has made a couple of TV Show appearances in shows such as The King Of Queens and Cubed, he made his big screen debut in the 2012 film Dragon Eyes where he viciously beat a police officer:

In the scene Henderson repeatedly beats an officer by smashing his face in with punches, bringing back memories from the officer’s past and most likely doing some severe brain damage as well.
