Last night (Sun. September 16, 2018) Lesnar made his return to the professional wrestling juggernaut at its Hell In A Cell (HIAC) pay-per-view (PPV). He interrupted the main event for the Universal Championship between Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman.

Lesnar tore down the steel door of the structure and hit both men with his signature F5 finisher. Hours before the show several professional wrestling sites had reported spotting Lesnar in the same city as the show. It was speculated he’d be getting involved in some way, shape, or form.

This is an interesting move by Lesnar, who was believed to be finished with WWE for the time being last month. He dropped the WWE’s World Title to Reigns at the SummerSlam PPV. This was because “The Beast” is believed to be gearing up for a big UFC return.

He will likely challenge Daniel Cormier for the UFC heavyweight championship in early 2019. According to a report from Dave Meltzer of MMA Fighting, this plan remains the same. The only reason Lesnar appeared at the HIAC PPV last night was that he is setting up another major WWE program for an upcoming show in Saudi Arabia.

WWE and Saudi Arabia have a lucrative deal in place that will provide the country with regular shows over the course of 10 years. Lesnar will be making a return to Saudi Arabia on November 2nd to perform on the card, after appearing on the WWE’s first show this past April.

He is believed to be making “well into the seven figures” for his matches in Saudi Arabia.

Former UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks is retired from mixed martial arts (MMA) competition.

“Bigg Rigg” last competed at UFC 217 last year when he was finished by young 185-pound prospect Paulo Costa. Due to issues with weight cutting and grievances with the way MMA fights are being judged, Hendricks decided it was time to walk away from the sport.

Although he’s no longer fighting for the UFC, that doesn’t mean he’s done fighting altogether. Hendricks is reportedly set to compete at an upcoming bare knuckle boxing event. FightBookMMA reports that Hendricks will be fighting former Bellator star Brennan Ward.

The fight takes place at World Bare Knuckle Fighting Federation (WBKFF) on November 9th in Casper, Wyoming. The pay-per-view (PPV) also features a fight between Chris Leben and Phil Baroni.

Hendricks, 35, is a former 170-pound champion in the UFC. At the end of his MMA career, he was only able to win one of his six last fights. Perhaps the knockout artist’s winning ways will return come November.

The combat sports world was abuzz with last night’s (Sat., September 15, 2018) thrilling Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin II rematch from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The battle was an instant classic that had most split down the middle as to whom was the real winner, but in the end, everyone agreed that it was the fans who won. Many scored it for Golovkin and said he was robbed on the judges’ cards, yet Alvarez emerged victorious to only add more controversy to the heap that was already leftover from their lambasted draw in 2017.

Yet while many are still up in arms for “GGG,” his trainer Abel Sanchez doesn’t feel the same way. Boxing trainer Abel Sanchez told FightHubTV (via Bloody Elbow) that he wouldn’t make excuses for the loss because Alvarez deserved credit for winning:

“It’s two great fighters. For me to say that Golovkin wasn’t at his best would take away from Canelo. We’ve gotta give Canelo the credit, too, that he was able to do the things that he needed to do tonight. It doesn’t happen every night, but for me to tell you that Golovkin wasn’t at his best would be taking away from a great victory for Canelo.”

Sanchez clarified that the rivalry, which included Alvarez being suspended for two positive drug tests, was never personal for him. He was glad that the fans ultimately were able to wash the bad taste of the first match from their collective mouths:

“I’m very proud of the fight that they gave us tonight. I’m very proud that another Mexican is a champion, especially on September 15. I’m happy for the fans. The fans won tonight. I think that they were uninspired from the first one, I think they’re very inspired from this one.”

“For me, it was never personal, it was always business. I’m just happy that the fight itself was a great fight and that the fans came out winning.”

While the second fight indeed went far in erasing the bad memories of the first match, there’s seemingly still some unfinished business due to the rematch being such a razor-thin call.

Most observers – be they for Canelo or GGG – think a trilogy should be in the making, and Sanchez is no outlier. He scored the fight a draw and believes the two boxing stars should fight a third time:

“I scored the fight even. I thought that the 12th round was the pivotal round. I said to Golovkin in the corner that I thought we were behind in about the 8th or 9th, and I told him I needed the rounds at the end. I thought it was even, but you know what? Canelo won, and that’s what’s important.”

“I think it merits (a third fight). I think this fight was a one-round fight.”

Legendary but troubled former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is awaiting the resolution of his failed USADA drug test in connection with his UFC 214 knockout victory over rival Daniel Cormier.

Jones has teased a pending return on social media quite often lately, making fans believe that a pending “Bones” fight could be on the horizon much sooner than his sordid history with performance-enhancing drugs would suggest.

That’s all speculation at this point, however, as Jones’ punishment could absolutely reach as high as four years because it’s his second offense. He’s also had repeated trouble with both cocaine and drinking and driving, making any return for “Bones” tentative speculation at the very best.

It won’t stop Jones from hoping for the best, of course, and in anticipation of his umpteenth comeback, he’s seemingly making more public appearances. Such was the case at this weekend’s Gatt Supplements expo in Las Vegas this weekend. There, Jones came face-to-face with an opponent he missed out on fighting when he was champion in two-time title contender Anthony “Rumble” Johnson:

Johnson retired from mixed martial arts after his second loss to Cormier at April 2017’s UFC 210. He’s since been seen becoming more focused on bodybuilding, and the results are not only jaw-dropping but also enough to prompt many to speculate that ‘Rumble’s’ been on some “supplements” of his own.

He isn’t being tested by USADA like Jones is, even if they haven’t exactly been knocking his door down this year. Regardless, the controversial great has an uncanny knack to come back from peril that would seemingly damn most other fighters. There was even a rumor that USADA had accepted a bribe to resolve “Bones’” case.

Let’s just hope we find out what will happen to Jones before a lengthy suspension period ends.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk Blasts Nicco Montano’s ‘Bulls**t’ Behavior As Champion

Earlier this month (Sat., September 8, 2018), UFC 228 lost one of its most important bouts for the pay-per-view event from American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

It all went down at weigh-ins the day before the card when former women’s flyweight champion Nicco Montano was forced out her first scheduled title defense in the co-main event. Montano had not yet set foot into the Octagon since capturing the title as an unlikely winner on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 27 last December.

Because of the repeated issues with getting her into the octagon, the UFC made the call to strip Montano of her belt relatively quickly after she missed weighing in before UFC 228. Not many have come to her side in the time since, and one former champion who has been in a similar circumstance is one of them.

Former UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk recently likened Montano’s miss at this weekend’s (Sat., September 15, 2018) UFC Moscow (via MMA Mania) to her own bad weight cut prior to her losing the title against Rose Namajunas at UFC 217 last year. It isn’t easy, but the former ‘Joanna Champion’ said the UFC was right to strip Montano because of what she did:

”Man, I paid the ultimate price, but I was on weight in November 2017,” she told media at UFC Fight Night Moscow. “I would do this the same because for me it’s a shame, us as fighters, athletes and champions to not be on weight.

”We need real and dedicated fighters and champions in the UFC. The UFC is the best organization in the world. There’s no space and time for bullsh**t like this. It was a very hard decision, very tough decision. I believe she is not happy but you must take this job very serious and you must be 100 percent in. Weight cuts are not easy, are not nice. But it’s part of our job and you shouldn’t complain and you must be on weight when you have to be.”

Now that women’s flyweight no longer has a champion, top-ranked Shevchenko is thought of as the uncrowned champion – something she was often called even before Montano missed weight.

It’s recently been rumored that Shevchenko will meet Jedrzejczyk, whom she’s already beaten in Muay Thai three times, for the flyweight title when the former women’s 115-pound champion ditches the draining weight cut to strawweight.

Jedrzejczyk cautioned that fans and media members pump the brakes a little, because while she does have an offer out it’s not set in stone:

”This fight is not on,” she said. “So of course I’ve got an offer, but we’ll see. I’m very open to fight Valentina Shevchenko. I always want to fight the best fighters, and definitely she is one of the top female fighters in the world.”

With a scene that can only be described as a mess at women’s flyweight, Shevchenko vs. Jedrzejczyk can only be described as by far the best fight the UFC has to offer in the weight class.

Shevchenko has seen two champions back out of fighting her at the last minute in just over a year, so they’d be best served to get it signed as soon as possible.

Last night’s (Sat., September 15, 2018) Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin rematch from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, has the combat sports world buzzing.

Alvarez took home a majority decision in the rematch after the two met in a controversial split draw last year, winning the WBA (Super), WBC, IBO, and vacant The Ring Magazine middleweight titles.

The Mexican star was the victor according to the judges and many fans, but many others feel GGG was robbed. Indeed, their rematch was a classic fight that most feel warrants a trilogy fight. For those reasons, the combat sporting world – including many in the MMA space – are torn down the middle on the megafight’s result.

Some will agree with the judges’ call; others obviously do not. Check out the judges’ official scorecards via Jon Castagnino here and decide for yourself:
