The UFC’s electric stadium show of UFC 198 live from the Arena de Baixada last night (May 14, 2016) in Curitiba, Brazil was a huge success, as Brazilian stars took the Octagon to embark on some of the biggest fights of their lives.

The Brazilian crowd was great, cheering on their native heroes, who, for the most part, emerged victorious. Not all Brazilian natives took home a win, however, as our ‘Brazil vs Brazil’ co-main event saw one man exiting the contest in a bloody mess in the first round.

The main event featured a heavyweight title bout between Brazilian Fabricio Werdum and surging Croatian contender Stipe Miocic, that ended with a bang and someone taking a short nap on the canvas.

With that said, lets take a look at our five biggest takeaways from UFC 198.

The UFC has stacked the deck for this weekend’s (May 14, 2016) highly anticipated UFC 198 pay-per-view (PPV) event from Curitiba, Brazil.

From top to bottom, the blockbuster card showcases a plethora of intriguing fights including not only some of the most legendary Brazilian fighters of all-time, but some of the biggest names in the sport period.

The card will feature multiple former champions, a potential title eliminator bout, and a heavyweight title fight to top it all off.

We are now just days away from the action, and the stage is set. The lights will be shining brighter than ever this weekend in Brazil, and the pressure will be on for the fighters to deliver.

Some of them are in need of a victory more than others as well. Let’s take a look at five combatants in desperate need of a victory this weekend:

Shogun Rua vs. Corey Anderson Scheduled For UFC 198 In Brazil

Fan favorite MMA legend ‘Shogun’ Rua may have withdrawn from his anticipated light heavyweight showdown with Rashad Evans at April 16’s UFC on FOX 19 due to a lingering knee injury from wars past, but it appears that the former UFC and Pride champ will return to the Octagon sooner than expected.

This evening a report surfaced from MMA Fighting stating that Rua would take on rising 26-year-old prospect Corey Anderson at May 14’s UFC 198 from his hometown of Curitiba, Brazil. The bout has since been confirmed, and will join an already stacked main card featuring the awaited heavyweight title bout between Fabricio Werdum and Stipe Miocic.

‘Shogun’ is understandably regarded as one of the finest 205-pound fighters in MMA history, but has fallen on mixed results lately following endless slugfests against the elite fighters in the world. Rua most recently got back into the win column with a decision victory over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in UFC 190’s “Fight of the Night” last August, but before that win he had dropped four out of five contests with three stoppage losses.

Rua returns to his hometown, where he won his two first MMA contests several years ago.

He’s still ranked in the Top 10 of the extremely shallow UFC light heavyweight division, however, and he’ll look to regain momentum against a very tough challenge in one of the division’s few young prospects in Anderson. ‘Beastin’ 25/8′ has won three straight fights after getting knocked out by Gian Villante in April 2015, most recently outlasting veteran Tom Lawlor by unanimous decision at UFC 196 after doing the same to Fabio Maldonado and Jan Blachowicz.

The TUF 19 light heavyweight winner will seek what would rank as by far his highest profile win over ‘Shogun.’

In other action, at UFC 198, top Brazilian fighters Ronaldo Souza and Vitor Belfort will face off in the co-main event, top-ranked Brazilian welterweight Demian Maia will face the gritty Matt Brown, and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira will meet Patrick Cummins.

OSP vs. Shogun: Actual (LEGAL) Footage of the Brutal Finish

Sometimes we hate being right. Last night on Twitter, we predicted Ovince St. Preux would run through Mauricio “Shogun” Rua without effort. We had no idea how prescient our tweet would be.

As you can see above, OSP dispatched the Pride legend without even exerting himself. It only took 34 seconds. To make it worse, Shogun absorbed a ton of unnecessary damage as Yario Yamasaki let OSP batter the Brazilian’s skull. Such slack-jawed gawking aside, this fight was entertaining for the violent spectacle that it was. OSP isn’t a man to write off, and Shogun definitely needs to retire in this point.

There were some other fights last night as well, but they weren’t really anything to write home about (and if you did wrote home about them, you’d get a reply that’s like “What are you talking about? Who the fuck are these people?”). But in case you’re one of the TRUE HARDCORE ULTIMATE BAD BOYZ who comments about how much we hate MMA on our Facebook page, we’ll post the card’s full results. Check them out after the jump.

(Video via UFC Youtube)

Per usual, the UFC Fight Night 26 post event presser table was filled Saturday night with fighters who had plenty to celebrate as well as those that felt miserable. Some guys managed to embody both feelings.

Conor “Brock Hype Lite” McGregor won his second UFC fight in impression fashion and looked as dandy as ever afterwards wearing sunglasses and a bow tie but nonetheless said he felt like he had just loss and was filled with disappointment because he couldn’t finish Max Holloway. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua looked devastated and as though he had to dig deep into his gut to sit and face questions about his shocking first round submission loss to Chael Sonnen.

Sonnen, on the other hand, was humble when it came to talking about his win over Rua. He said the win was his biggest ever and that the shoe could have easily been on the other foot.

When it came to speaking of future opponents, however, Sonnen the troll was in fine form when said he’d beat Wanderlei Silva, Lyoto Machida and Vitor Belfort in one night. Alistair Overeem didn’t make it to the presser after getting knocked out by Travis Browne but his opponent was, and went into honest detail about the moments he was frozen by body shots by the kickboxer.

Matt Brown didn’t take his foot off the gas pedal in saying he wants a title shot and Urijah Faber and Michael McDonald talked about the possibility of fighting one another in the future.
