With former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar’s current WWE deal set to expire following April 8’s WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans, talk of yet another UFC run for the hulking fan favorite is reaching a fever pitch.

Those rumors were kicked into high gear earlier this year when Lesnar, who has been out of action in MMA since his decision win over Mark Hunt at 2016’s UFC 200, was spotted posing for a photo with UFC President Dana White while wearing a UFC t-shirt.

Lesnar was suspended by USADA for testing positive for a banned estrogen blocker, but that suspension has run its course and he’s now eligible to return to mixed martial arts. There’s little secret the UFC could use a proven pay-per-view draw like Lesnar during these uncertain times for the promotion, and apparently, Lesnar’s interest is also more than mutual.

During a recent spot with Newsweek, Lesnar’s longtime pro-wrestling ‘manager’ Paul Heyman put their proverbial cards on the table and revealed Lesnar’s desire to return to the octagon was not a secret, calling his perceived MMA return a ‘fact’:

“I don’t think it’s any secret that Brock is looking to get back into the octagon. He is obviously eyeballing another fight in UFC. There’s no secret. He’s posing for pictures with Dana White wearing a UFC shirt in the UFC offices in Las Vegas. That’s not a negotiating tactic, Brock Lesnar wants to compete inside of the octagon. There’s no leveraging that; it’s a fact.”

But Heyman didn’t stop short of insisting Lesnar could compete in both MMA and the WWE, pointing to the fact that he performed in the WWE just six weeks after his win over Hunt two years ago:

“We both have a number of projects we have been interested in pursuing that will start to kick off after WrestleMania. That doesn’t mean Brock Lesnar can’t retain the title and we do those other projects simultaneously in a continued run as Universal Champion. The proof I offer to you is Brock Lesnar fought Mark Hunt at UFC 200 and, six weeks later, main evented SummerSlam against Randy Orton.

“Brock Lesnar can do both and he has proven that time and time again. And I’ve been the co-founder and co-running my agency since I came back in 2012. I’ve been working on outside projects this entire time, so we can certainly walk that line when it comes to working in WWE and other projects. Mine is entertainment-based, Brock’s is beating the hell out of someone in the octagon.”

Lesnar may not be in prime UFC shape at 40, but he does have the fact that heavyweight seems to be a division much more conducive to older fighters staying around for a longer tenure on his side, evident by the many 35-plus fighters still competing at the top levels in the octagon.

That may not matter, however, because whenever Lesnar gets back into the octagon, people start buzzing and opening their wallets.

That’s a lot more than can be said for most of the pay-per-view events UFC owners Endeavor have put on in the past year and change, so don’t be at all surprised to see Lesnar back soon.

Brock Lesnar ‘Always Ready’ for Rumored UFC Return, Says WWE’s Paul Heyman

While the chatter about a Conor McGregor comeback has dominated the MMA news cycle over recent weeks, one story that’s been flying under the radar is that a similar comeback might be in the works for Brock Lesnar.

The odds of a return for the former UFC heavyweight champion and current WWE Universal Champion have become lower and lower over recent weeks, and the most recent sign of this came Wednesday morning with TMZ talking to on-screen manager Paul Heyman about the idea.

“I think Brock Lesnar does whatever Brock Lesnar wants to do,” he said. “If Brock Lesnar wants to fight in the UFC, Brock Lesnar will fight in the UFC. If Brock Lesnar wants to fight in WWE, he will fight in WWE…Brock Lesnar does what Brock Lesnar wants to do.”

After the interview was posted on TMZ.com, Heyman took to Twitter to clarify his position on a potential Lesnar return:

While Heyman historically mixes his real-life interviews with his on-screen work with Lesnar (and this piece with TMZ was clearly in character), there have been many signs of the Beast Incarnate returning to the UFC.

Rumors of Lesnar‘s contract running its course following WrestleMania 34 in April have been floating around for months now, with Wrestling Observer‘s Dave Meltzer also reporting that the fallout could be dragged out until SummerSlam in August (via CageSideSeats.com). Couple that with the total 180 performed by UFC President Dana White on a Lesnar return in recent months, and a comeback is feeling more and more likely by the day.

Of course, fans shouldn’t be clearing their schedules quite yet. Even if Lesnar wants to return to the UFC, WWE is likely to make him a strong offer in the spring, and there are still outstanding issues regarding Lesnar‘s failed drug test from his last UFC fight in 2016. Still, this is a story to watch in 2018, and one worth getting at least a little excited about.

Ever since UFC light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones beat Daniel Cormier in the main event of July 29’s UFC 214, much of the talk surrounding “Bones’” next fight has been centered on his potential super fight with former UFC heavyweight and current WWE universal champion Brock Lesnar.

There are certainly a number of roadblocks that have to be surpassed in order for the fight to take place, most notably Lesnar’s currently “frozen” USADA suspension which still has six months remaining on it due to the fact he “retired” after receiving a one-year for testing positive for clomiphene before and during his UFC 200 return versus Mark Hunt last year.

But the bout still seems like more of an eventuality than merely a possibility, and something that happened last night may support that theory in whole. During Monday’s (August 14, 2017) episode of WWE Monday Night RAW, Lesnar’s manager Paul Heyman hinted he could be returning to a ‘cage’:

Heyman spoke of a so-called conspiracy theory by RAW general manager Kurt Angle to rip Lesnar’s title from him, and if that indeed transpired, Lesnar would leave the WWE to compete elsewhere (quotes from MMA Mania):

“One of two things happens this Sunday at SummerSlam,” Heyman said. “One, the conspiracy by WWE General Manager Kurt Angle is successful and they rip the Universal title off of my client Brock Lesnar. Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman leave the WWE. And if that is the case I assure you that you might as well lock this beast up in a cage!”

The “Cage” could mean WWE’s Hell in a Cell match in a cage, or obviously, his UFC return. Regardless, the WWE curiously edited out Heyman’s comment when it posted the segment on their official YouTube page soon afterward:

It’s fair to wonder what are the pro-wrestling leader’s reasons for why they would do such a thing after they allowed Lesnar to compete at UFC 200 in 2016, but overall, they probably don’t want their fans believing their biggest draw is going to lose his title and then leave the promotion, so they may have wanted to nip speculation in the bud.

Lesnar’s suspension means he cannot fight in MMA until early 2018, meaning he would have a decent amount of time to still ‘compete’ for the WWE after SummerSlam this month. With his WWE contract soon running out, that could potentially keep both sides happy, but it’s clear at this point that the WWE doesn’t want too much discussion of Lesnar once again leaving for MMA.
