Floyd Mayweather Jr. Claims McGregor Was Tougher Fight Than Canelo

Floyd Mayweather believes that Conor McGregor gave him a tougher fight than Canelo Alvarez did inside the squared circle.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has shared the ring with some of the greatest boxers of all time.

Of course, the argument can be made that Mayweather himself is the greatest to ever lace up a pair of gloves. “Money” has racked up an undefeated record of 50-0 inside the squared circle. His milestone 50th consecutive victory came last year against UFC mega-star Conor McGregor.

The entire ordeal was a glorified circus act, in which Mayweather dragged the Irishman into the later rounds, allowing the then-UFC champion to exhaust himself en-route to a 10th round TKO win. Recently, Mayweather has come out and heaped a ton of praise McGregor’s way, all while taking a shot at unified middleweight boxing champion Canelo Alvarez.

In the wake of Alvarez signing a huge new broadcast deal with the DAZN streaming network, Mayweather posted the following on Instagram:

“It didn’t matter if Canelo ate his PED steak or not this night, this was by far the easiest fight of my career! Connor McQuitter was a way better fighter than Canelo’s cheating ass and I beat the brakes off him too!

“It takes me 36 mins or less to make $300 million plus. It literally takes me 1 night and 1 fight to make what you might make in 5 years and 11 fights! So really, who’s still winning? You do the math!”

Canelo recently signed the biggest contract in sports history. A five-year, 11-fight, $365 million broadcast deal with DAZN. In Mayweather’s absence, Canelo has arguably become boxing’s biggest star in the United States. Perhaps Mayweather’s fighting words, who is rumored to return to the ring later this year, are setting up a rematch with the Mexican slugger.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is celebrating its 25th year anniversary in 2019. MMA, as we know it, has grown leaps and bounds since the days of ‘No Holds Barred’ fights and 300-pound tough guys. MMA is a professional sport; however, the athletes competing aren’t exactly raking in NFL or NBA money. After all expenses are accounted for the average UFC fighter earned somewhere in the neighborhood of $132,109 in 2017.

However, these 10 MMA fighters have figured out a way to break the bank.

Floyd Mayweather Wants To Fight In Tokyo Before Pacquiao Rematch

Mayweather has some big plans for his return to boxing.

The talk of a rematch between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao has been dominating the boxing world.

Back in May of 2015, Mayweather defeated Pacquiao after 12 rounds of fighting, via unanimous decision. For years talk of a rematch has loomed, and it looks like now it might actually happen. Mayweather threw out the challenge last weekend when he called “The Pac-Man” out.

Mayweather would like to fight Pacquiao in December of this year. Before he gets back into the ring against Pacquiao, however, it looks like “Money” wants a tune-up fight or two. TMZ Sports reports that Mayweather will take a fight in Tokyo first to warm up.

In fact, it looks like Mayweather is looking at opponents beyond the world of boxing. He hasn’t made a decision yet, but he is looking at kickboxers and MMA fighters as well. Interestingly enough, Conor McGregor’s name has reportedly not been mentioned.

Mayweather’s plans are much bigger than boxing. His plan is to put on a big show for fans in Tokyo to open up the Asian market. This will lead to other business interests such as clothing and endorsements.

A date for a potential Tokyo fight has yet to be set in stone, but it’s said that Mayweather is eying a New Year’s Eve date if he can land a big enough venue. If all goes according to plan, fans could see Mayweather vs. Pacquiao II in 2019.
